Ragatha never cried in front of others.
She didn't want to let the mood down. Ever. Letting people see her vulnerabilities— it wasn't in the cards for her.She was supposed to be the strong one. The reasonable, dependable one. The one you could come to after a particularly awful adventure and vent your problems to when you really needed it.
And, yet. Here she was, finding herself in front of Pomni's door, needing a piece of company so late in the evening. She couldn't even do that right.

“She’s here as my date,” Pomni says from behind her.
Which is not what she had said on the phone. The word date was never mentioned. Its clarification emboldens her, has Ragatha beaming as she turns her head to see her. They’ve talked over the phone, sure, but that’s only been a couple times for a few weeks, and she’s only ever met Pomni one time. There’s no guarantee that this is going to work. That Pomni even wants her.
“Hey,” Pomni says with bravado (or lack there of), cigarette in hand, as if she’s said it a hundred times before, as if Ragatha’s familiar.
She really wants this to work.
