Close death experiences always left you paranoid, but the deep void in his gut felt so unfamiliar.
He always felt joy every time the squad made it back alive, each one of them surviving the hell that outburst had been ( unannounced, quick and overwhelming) should be a reason for a quiet calm to settle right beside the uneasiness.
But this time it just felt wrong.
Everyone made it back alive, and that might as well be a miracle in itself. But his survival... it didn't quite fit.
He felt dead- he should be dead. That was the only thing that felt right, and even then the facts contradicted it.
He never relied on gods and has no intentions of doing so, maybe that's why accepting something so of that nature was so hard for him.
Yeah, that must be it. He only needs to give it some time.
══════Or: Illuga dies in a wild hunt outburst, but a little " Gift " from his long forgotten family line keeps him alive at a price of a compulsion to consume the blood and moonlight of everything around him.
And sadly for him his dear friend just so happens to be an ancient being who's flesh and blood were carved from radiant moonlight

When Roy Harper told him he’d started dating again, he didn’t think much of it.
Okay, that’s not quite true. What he did think was a sharp and triumphant “finally, thank god”. Which he did not say to Roy, for the obvious reasons of it’s an asshole thing to say.
His response was not, “Hey Roy, are you sure the guy you just started dating isn’t the infamous criminal Red Hood who may or may not happen to be my very deceased little brother back from the dead?”
Because that would be insane.
And yet.
Or,
Dick Grayson fails to meet his best friend’s boyfriend, gets punched in the face, comes out as aromantic, finds out a certain someone is dating a criminal, falls in love with his best friend, and reunites with his back-from-the-dead brother. Not necessarily in that order- Language:

'Yes? Oh, come now, Young Master,' Flins says, a teasing grin pulling at his lips, 'what else did you expect me to wear at court? Not my Lightkeeper uniform, surely?'"
