Summary
Red piercing eyes glowed in the dark, staring at her. Lips were glistening wet from blood. A vampire – great.
Instantly, Rumi raised her sword in defence. But surprisingly, the vampire didn’t attack immediately.
Instead she slowly stood up and turned around to face the huntress.
“Huh…” the vampire said, eying Rumi’s silver sword. “Haven’t seen one of you in a while.”
Her voice was raspy and low. She didn’t sound intimidated, if anything she sounded mildly bored.
Rumi examined her opponent more closely. The other woman was taller than her and she had sharp facial features. Long pink hair fell openly over her shoulders.
Without the blood on her lips, she could easily pass as a cover girl of any fashion magazine.
“And I was actually looking for someone else.” She answered.
Rumi pointed with her sword at the body on the ground.
“You haven’t seen the werewolf that did this, by any chance?” She asked the vampire.

Summary
She was looking straight up. The lights were still beaming down, haloing her in the darkness of the under-stage. The lights were intensely bright, but as she took a moment to try to slow her adrenaline, they suddenly seemed far away.
Then the world, for one brief, merciful second, went white. The world didn’t stay merciful.
Indescribable pain radiated through Mira’s left leg. Far worse than she’d ever experienced before. No training session, no blow from schoolyard bullies, no strike from a demon had ever felt like this. It traveled up her body like fire and electricity and grief in a roar.
Mira screamed.
A year after they remade the Honmoon--after they've remade themselves--Mira experiences an accident. The stage crumbles underneath her, steel supports shearing away, and she slips through the hole in the stage flooring. They find her in the wreckage after, alive, but grievously hurt.
She didn't expect to lose her leg in the process.
Or to have to struggle with learning to dance again.
But she's always defied people's expectations, and she's not going to stop now.
With Rumi and Zoey by her side, she finds a way to flourish again.
