[When tests were approved and finally underway—[…]—on the little bits of technology recovered from Treasure Planet, Jim of course was invited to be involved in the process; after all, he was the reason Treasure Planet was found in the first place.
And it was, perhaps, a bit reckless of him when he decided to pick up a piece of the technology. When contact with the tech triggered a portal to start opening, pulling Jim and Morph into it given their proximity, he was expecting perhaps to end up on another planet in the known universe.
His expectations were partially met… ending up in the past was certainly not what he was expecting, though.]
