Summary
Buck and Eddie's relationship is new, and both have decided to keep it under wraps. Eddie takes that to mean they won't flaunt it. Buck takes it to mean that they're pretending they are both still single and just friends. Neither talks about it. Chaos ensues.
----
"Oh, you mean Eddie? Yeah, Eddie Diaz." And Eddie is a lot more interested in the answer now that Buck seems to have realized the man was asking about him. They haven't properly labelled it yet, but to Eddie it’s pretty clear that whatever they call their relationship, they are BuckandEddie. Except, Buck doesn't seem to share that particular thought, because he says, "Yeah, he's single."
The pang of hurt is bright and strong. But just that, a pang. It is quickly replaced by anger. If Eddie is single, he should be the first one to know, not a random patient in the middle of a scene.

Summary
Buck and Eddie have been dating for some time now, but no one seems to notice the difference. Eddie starts to spiral about what that means, and if he's falling short as Buck's boyfriend. Buck does not agree.
---
“What do you say we are?” Eddie asks again, gently, working on taking the shoe off Buck’s foot, and Buck following his silent directions without a word.
“Partners” Buck answers then. “Does it bother you?”
“Of course not, Buck. It’s just… Chim, Maddie and Hen didn’t know we were dating until around a month ago.”

Summary
“Aw,” Harry says, smiling. “That’s adorable. Is it like—is it a thing? Do all of you keep pictures in your helmets?”
A murmur of general consensus ripples through their group. Harry, apparently delighted by this new knowledge, demands to see everyone’s secret photos.
“They’re kind of private,” Eddie says, crouched down to unlace his boots. He has a smudge of soot over his left cheek, and his hair has come loose from the gel, a lock of it curling over his brow. Buck likes him like this, just a little dishevelled.
or, firefighters sometimes keep photographs of the people they love inside their helmets, to remember who they’re fighting to come home to. eddie’s isn’t what buck expects.

Summary
“Maddie and I are doing dinner with the Lees,” Chimney says. “They’re gonna spoil the kids, and then we have to get Jee to sleep somehow.”
Eddie is glaring at the pricing page when the thought hits. “Is Buck going with you?”
Chimney freezes. “Buck. Right, Buck.”
“You forgot your own brother-in-law?” Hen mocks. “That's really the Christmas spirit, Chim.”
“They won't care if he comes. I'll just text Maddie, and we'll get that sorted.”
“No,” Eddie says, and not only because he's looking at a good deal on a flight and two hotel rooms. “I'll invite him to come with us.”
Or: Eddie brings Buck home for the holidays. He's a safe harbor amongst Diaz family drama.

Summary
He lurches forward, shoves the box into Eddie's hands, and says, “Thanks, cupcake.”
It isn't until he's halfway into his uniform, fly still open and shirt unbuttoned, that he realizes.
Thanks, cupcake.
Buck can’t seem to stop calling Eddie pet names. It would be funny, if he wasn’t in love with him and trying desperately to stay in denial.
