“I’m not a child.” He grabbed her arms, pulling her closer. “If I haven’t declared my intentions, it’s because I was waiting for you to be ready. Do you think I bring flowers to just any woman?”
Annabeth felt her heart break. He was so sure, so determined. And she felt so guilty.
“Percy, you’re confused, darling.”
“Don’t call me darling. I know exactly what I want. I know what I feel.” His voice cracked. “Please, marry me. Don’t reject me.”

When she looked at herself in the mirror, she could almost hear Percy’s breath on her neck, and his lips exploring the bare skin above her chest. She could almost see his hands slightly sliding from her waist to the bottom of her back, recklessly playing with the ties of the dress and undoing them slowly. She could literally feel her lips tingling just by the thought of kissing him, feeling the wistful smile on his lips and his salty taste on her tongue.
She took a deep breath, calmed down. And bought the dress.
Now, she hoped wearing it tonight might make some of that come true
