He was supposed to be with Max to the end. They were supposed to grow old together in the same way they had grown until now.
They were supposed to become more than… than whatever they were.
They were supposed to look back on their old fights and laugh and giggle and remember how angry they had once been, how young, and how silly it all was now.
Charles was supposed to hold Max’s hand as he died in the far distant future. After they each had eight championships and their names would go down tandem in history. After they had had a full life together, traveling the world and staying home and doing mundane things that people who are in love do.
But they would never do this now.
