Summary
Ancient forest spirit Lucifer has spent his immortal existence in isolation from humans, serving as protector of his remote mountain home and suffering from a curse placed upon him by a family that had once claimed to love him. He has dedicated his life to shielding the animals and spirits under his care from the careless cruelty of the humans he used to admire. Angel lifted his head only to freeze on spotting Charlie’s rectangle. “Holy shit! Is that a fuckin’ cellphone?!”
Charlie gave a nervous laugh. “Yeah. You don’t have a charger do you?”
He pointed an accusing finger at Alastor, eyes narrowing. “How come the new girl gets t’keep her phone? Ya said none of that shit exists around here!”
“It doesn’t,” Alastor said, flabbergasted.
Charlie’s gaze darted between them. “…okay, this isn’t a cult or something, is it…? I’m just so busy between work and school, I don’t have time to join a cult right now.”
Angel’s shoulders sagged. “Nobody told ya yet…?”
“Told me what?”
“That you’re dead.”
She didn’t laugh this time. “What?”

Summary
Lucifer hasn’t left his mansion in ten years, and Ozzie is so sick of it that he drags him to the red light district to attempt to be social. After nearly a year, Lucifer is offered the chance to meet with a courtesan, and his inability to say no results in him picking the one courtesan famed for avoiding sex as much as possible: Alastor, the Reticent Courtesan.
Alastor was sold to a brothel at the age of five and has been living as an oiran, the top rank of courtesan in the Pride red light district, for nearly a century. As could be expected, he hates it and his life. When he gets a strange, awkward new client, he finds himself oddly endeared and wonders if maybe, just maybe, it would be safe to put his trust in someone.
