The Gaang has scattered: Sokka and Suki are fractious over Sokka's insistence to marry, Toph just wants to get on with being able to do whatever she wants now that she's free of the Beifong compound, Zuko is finally running his country, Aang wants to bask in adulation while creating more Airbenders, and Katara is fed up with pressure of responsibility and obligation.
After yet another fight with Aang, Katara takes a vacation in the capital city of the Fire Nation and reconnects with Zuko after a few years apart. Fire, as is its nature, burns quickly and while passions are running high, Katara agrees to join Zuko on a search for his mother.
Katara, already caught between two conflicting paths for her future, is now faced with a third. But is being the secret lover of the Fire Lord really how she wants to end her story?

Summary
Katara has returned to the North Pole in order to work with her father on tribe matters. She is introduced to Chief Arnook's adopted son and heir Amaqjuaq, in whom she finds a quick friend. Through him, Katara is being recruited to the Cult of the Spirits, a group that seeks to restore the spiritual practices that have been lost to the South Pole and to revitalize the Southern Spirit Oasis.
Katara, her family, the Avatar, and the royal family decide to depart for the South Pole when the Southern Restoration Project stalls and there are rumors of spirits threatening work sites. Before they are able to leave, however, the diplomatic party from the Fire Nation arrives and they are forced to bring them along to the South Pole.
Having publicly spurned Aang as a romantic partner, Katara finds herself torn between the easy ally of Prince Amaq and the love she still harbors for the Fire Lord.
This is a direct sequel to "How Dragons Fall in Love." And please be aware that while I have added the Katara x OC ship, this should still definitely be considered a Zutara work. Trust me.

Plagued by a mysterious spiritual ailment and convinced that Zuko has been brainwashed, Katara, Sokka, and Toph travel to the Fire Nation to save their friend. When the plan falls apart and only Katara is able to escape - though not unscathed - she finds an unlikely ally in Riku, the new persona given to Azula by the Mother of faces. Katara must face her refusal to accept that which she cannot change or else be overcome by it. But bloodbending, her forbidden love affair, and Azula's redemption seem beyond one person's ability to accept.

Summary

Summer is approaching and time is running out. A summit between the nations is set to take place in just a few weeks, and that is where Zuko will announce not only his marriage to Xianji but also the execution of Ozai. Both actions are viewed unfavorably in the Fire Nation and threaten to spark a civil war. A war that a certain Earth Kingdom city-kingdom would be able to quell thanks to Xianji.
Katara has her bending back, but it’s only a fraction of what it used to be. Riku has become her steadfast ally, but even that is threatened when a familiar face brings up memories that weren’t erased.
She also has to finally face her fears. The choice between right and wrong is never easy and often the right choice comes with dire consequences. Comparing Riku’s past to her own future, Katara has to make peace with Zuko’s choice, her bloodbending, and putting herself before anyone and anything else.
The enemy uses once friendly faces and Katara takes new allies with her to break Xianji’s hold. But will Riku turn out to be her best weapon or the key to her own destruction?
