Summary
The first time I encountered Evan was not his older brother, despite popular belief. When Evan first put it in the world, the doctors wooshed him away to be poked and prodded.
An infant next to him was wailing. His skin melted into the color of his hospital teddy bear, and I knew it was his time. But this story is not of the little child of teddy bears but of Evan. When I took his next door neighbor his wide blue eyes met mine with surprise.
Notes from Death:
It is rare a human ever look me in the eye
And not join me, in my embraceHis eyes were so intent, he caught me by utmost surprise. I tried to pull away gently but in the commotion his little arms grazed the skin above his right eye.
I inhaled sharply. Never in the centuries of my job has a soul touched a living one. Evan began wailing as a large red dot appeared where his roommate had touched him. I was scared? Perhaps, that was the feeling I felt that day. But mostly I knew that Evan was going to be special, he had to be. For who could be touched by death, and live to tell the tale?
Or A look at Evan “Buck” Buckley’s life through losses– as told by deathSeries

Summary
Help will come much later, and shortly after that his parents and tio and tias. Eddie, along with the rest of the children, is sobbing and looking devastated at his four-year-old cousin’s body.
“Edmundo Diaz you get over here right now!” Eddie’s dad, Ramon, who was a stiff soul to carry, yelled. Eddie’s sobs continued tenfold as he walked over to the side yard where his father stood. Distantly I could hear screaming as Gael’s parents saw their son for the last time.
Ramon grabs Eddie by the shoulders tightly and shakes him. “You stop crying now boy! You shut up right now or I damn swear Eddie…”
Eddie hiccuped harshly but allowed his stifled breath to muster, “Yes sir.”
“Edmundo, you are ten years old now! You are not a child!-
Notes from Death:
As someone who has lived since the beginning of time, ten years
old is very much a child, a small child at that.
