Summary
Hiccup has been a curious child from the moment he could crawl. By this point, the other Berkians were used to it, and paid him no mind. This made it far easier than it should have been for Hiccup to slip by unnoticed at such a young age. He didn’t often go beyond the village, but occasionally he’d be found on the edge of the forest, caught before he could go in. Hiccup was a very stubborn child, though, so he kept trying to go to the forest.
Here’s the story of what happens when he finally succeeds.

"After many minutes of shooting down nets and boulders with ease, several things happen within mere seconds. A fiery light grows closer and closer, bringing heat and danger with it. The stars above seem to be blotted out in a small, moving patch of darkness, unnoticed by everyone on the ground below. The stray shot from a Nightmare lands nearby, and an explosion rocks the ground. Hiccup startles, tripping out of the way of fiery dirt kicked up by the shot, bumping into his bola launcher by accident. It re-aims all on its own, and his hand hits against the trigger as he stumbles, launching it aimlessly into the night sky."
Or, the story of what happens during the time of the first movie, suited to fit this au. I guess if you really wanted to this could be read without reading part one, but I highly, highly recommend you read part one first to really understand what's happening.

After defeating the Red Death, Hiccup is finally awake again, and on the road to recovery from his injuries; but his injuries aren’t the only thing in need of recovery— Stoick has finally realized just how many mistakes he’s made, and is doing his best to make it up to his son.
Through it all, with dragons now accepted on Berk, Hiccup starts having a lot more adventures. Or; the story of what happens during the time of the shows (RoB, DoB, RttE), suited to fit this au.
