Summary
This wasn't the calm, unruffled wizard that he knew. No, at this moment, Gale was a force of nature itself, a pillar of energy and unstoppable power.
OR: Gale runs out of spells and is forced to defend Astarion with his quarterstaff in the middle of battle. It's surprisingly hot.

Summary
Astarion hangs at the back of the crowd, his little arms folded across his chest while he does his best to appear grumpy. Grumpy is better than nervous, or scared, or any number of other big feelings that always seem to get him into trouble. And maybe if he acts cranky enough, the others will just leave him alone.
OR: Astarion and Gale attend their first swimming lesson with the rest of their class. Astarion is far from pleased (blame that on his dad), but Gale is excited.

Summary
Astarion's skin—his flawless, pale skin—now glittered like a thousand tiny stars had been embedded into his very pores. Every light caught on him, from the miniature alchemical brazier to Gale’s conjured candles to the moon’s glow filtering down from the sky. With every movement, the vampire’s skin shimmered brightly, as though he were a creature composed of pure magic.
Rather than create a Potion of See Invisibility, the wizard seemed to have turned his lover into a walking disco ball.
OR: Gale's latest alchemical experiment goes awry, and Astarion happens to be in the crossfire. Whoops.

Summary
The fact that it stood alone in the center of a room, clearly intended to draw the attention of anyone who stumbled upon it, should have been a clue that something wasn't right. But Gale was curious, and Astarion rarely passed up a chance to examine something shiny, so in they went.
OR: Gale and Astarion find a strange relic in a room of a forgotten ruin, one with a haunting tune that threatens to strip away their mental walls and expose a well-kept secret.

Summary
One moment, they stood atop a cliff in the Underdark, fending off a pair of hook horrors.
The next, the ground beneath them gave way and sent them plummeting with a deafening crack.
Dirt and stone shattered in all directions, and before Gale could even react, the ground ravenously swallowed them whole. He landed hard, the breath knocked from his chest as falling dust and debris filled the air above him.
OR: Gale and Astarion fall into a sinkhole during a battle in the Underdark, leaving the pair trapped. Astarion doesn't react well.

Summary
Like passing through a sound and light-proof curtain, the invisible edge of Gale's modified privacy spell gives way as the elf pushes closer, filling Astarion's ears with the tumultuous drumbeat of the wizard's heart. It's not the soothing rhythm of a heart at peace. It's more like the accelerated pace that he's used to hearing when Gale is forced to push his physical limits in battle, a brisk, throbbing pulse of hot blood that leaves Astarion's fangs aching and his mouth watering. But there's also a wet sound: a squishing, squelching noise, like–
Gale's voice catches in a gasp before rising in a strung-out moan, and the elf suddenly realizes what he's overhearing.
OR: A nosy vampire sneaks up to Gale's tent one night to find out why he's being so unusually quiet. And boy, does he get an eyeful.

Summary
By this time, Gale has found his words again, his warm eyes filling with curiosity and a bit of understandable uncertainty. They all know that Astarion really isn't the type to go around playing nursemaid. "What are you doing?"
"Taking care of you, since you obviously can't be bothered to do so yourself."
OR: Gale's in pain after a long day of trudging through the Underdark and hides himself away. Astarion isn't having that. They need their wizard in proper working order, after all.

Summary
"What's in it for me?"
Rolling his eyes, Gale turned back to his cheeky companion and leveled a ladle at him. "What, is my everlasting appreciation not good enough for you? Or the thanks of our friends for rescuing them from the abominable clutches of a bland yet hearty supper?"
"Nope." The unrepentant vampire continued to smirk, stretching his lean body in a way clearly meant to entice as his camp shirt slid up to reveal a peek of the pallid abdomen beneath. "Try again, darling."
OR: Astarion hovers while Gale works on supper. When the vampire proves to be unwilling to help out of the kindness of his heart, Gale gets flirty and offers him a reward that he just can't refuse.

Summary
With the Netherbrain dead and their tadpoles gone, it had taken mere moments for the sun's healing light to morph into a scorching weapon, sending the vampire scrambling from the docks in search of sanctuary. By the time Halsin managed to drag Gale out of the Chionthar, waterlogged, concussed, and barely conscious, Astarion was already gone. And Gale was in no state to go after him, as much as he may have wished otherwise.
It's been the longest handful of hours of Gale's entire life.
OR: Gale waits for sunset and prays for his lover's safe return, uncertain of his fate after the fall of the Netherbrain.

Summary
"I wasn't the one who stepped on the pressure plate, was I? And I distinctly recall hearing a rather damning 'oh shit' in your voice before the walls began to close around us."
There was probably some humor to be found in the situation, Astarion thought to himself. Maybe he'd look back at it later and have a good laugh. But right now, he'd been sandwiched between unforgiving stone walls and Gale's warm body with only a few inches to spare, moments away from a claustrophobia-induced panic attack, and he couldn't find a fucking thing funny about it.
OR: Astarion accidentally trips a trap in a dungeon, leaving him and Gale trapped in an incredibly tight space. Astarion doesn't do well in tight spaces.

Summary
"A-Astarion…" Gale can only stare at him, the puzzle pieces of scattered suspicions suddenly aligning and clicking into place. Things he'd seen, things he'd guessed, things he never believed that the elf would ever put up with, all of them coming together to form an awful picture. Gods, how did he manage to miss it? "Did you honestly think I was about to strike you?"
OR: Gale and Astarion get into an argument, and Gale notices something that shatters Astarion's carefully cultivated facade.
