Summary
Deafening, the sound of her.
A pounding at his ear drums, an aching ream of resonance singing round and round the shell of his ears. Whipping winds howling at his eyes until he can barely see, bloodied tears pooling at his lids, catching in his lashes, courting dust, dirt, debris, the smell of the Mississippi hauled outta her riverbed and up in the air, drowning him as he tries to steady his feet. He can’t vamp. Not with his hand still holding fast to the knot of Lestat’s robe, not when the hurricane would force him, them, any direction it wanted, toss them around like a cat with a muddy-shelled roach, and vaguely he realizes that he has no idea where he’s going.
-
Louis and Lestat leave the shack the night of the hurricane, seek refuge in a store, navigate too many memories, argue, ache, and maybe figure out the start of a way forward.

Summary
“I want to know about your life before me. Had to learn it the hard way, didn’t we? About the Paris Coven?”
“I told you both what they were, you just didn’t listen,” Lestat snaps, and at least they’ve had this fight already in the time since that fateful reunion – that telling them, vaguely as he did, that vampires outside of New Orleans were vicious doesn’t fucking count for anything – and Lestat seems to remember that around the same time Louis does, because he shrinks a little. Runs a hand back through his hair, looks up at Louis through his painted lashes. Then, softer: “You still think I am withholding?”
Which - - fuck. Louis laughs.
“Yeah, baby, I do.”
-
A year after Louis and Lestat reunite, they're still figuring it out. Daniel calls it out, Louis tries to move them forwards, and maybe they just fuck instead.

Summary
Outside, Tokyo’s early evening traffic thrums with urgency beneath heavy rain, and he knows if he trained his ear, he’d hear the city alive regardless with chatter and music. If he trained his nose, he’d smell the thickening, humid weather, the bay, the heady smells of gyoza and Takoyaki and tempura, cooking in spitting oil, but he doesn’t. No, what he does is keep looking at Lestat and thinking – not for the first time – that this has been a mistake. Thinks he has stayed too long here in Japan, even if it’s been just shy of two weeks.
-
It's been 18 months since they reunited, Lestat's on the cusp of fame, Louis' trying to be companion enough for himself, they're both a mess, but they both still want each other all the same.

Summary
“Why do you ask?”
And fuck, if that doesn’t rattle the box Louis’ tried to lock this up in, and if they weren’t trying to be better, do better, Louis would ask him why do you think? Would ask him what goes on in your head that you think I wouldn’t want to know all of this? Would ask him what it is about the two of them, who can talk for nights on nights on nights, who can know each other’s topography and undersoil, who can live within the most wild and rugged terrains of one another, yet only turn over their most weathered stones for tourists.
-
Louis and Lestat argue about moving in, the interview, and finally, deeply, darkly, about Magnus.
