Anger is the absence of love.
Eddie has always known this.

First he denied.
Told Bobby he was wrong, that Buck wouldn’t be that selfish. Wouldn’t jeopardize everything they had built for some job. He would never do that.
And then Athena called off the APB and Eddie marched into her office and yelled. He screamed and fought with her. To Eddie’s surprise she remained calm and offered him lunch when he was done screaming.
Then came the anger.
And he was never able to get past that stage.

Summary
“Good evening, Mr. Nash. I’m a nurse at Presbyterian Hospital. I’m calling on behalf of your son.”
Bobby’s knees locked up and his throat threatened to close.
His son was dead.
Had been for ten years.
His baby boy, his Robbie, dead because of him.
All he could feel was the fire licking up his exposed skin. His throat raw from the smoke inhalation and screaming.
His children.
His wife.
Dead.
“Sir?” The nurse asked on the other side of the line. “I’m so sorry to deliver this news to you over the phone but-”
“Please,” his voice cracked. “Robbie has been-”
“I’m not calling about Robbie,” she cut him off, not unkindly. It was as if, because of her occupation, she had a sixth sense for these types of things. “Like I said, this is about Evan?”
Evan?
Who the hell was…
Oh.
“Buck?”OR

Summary
Truth was a prickly thing, Eddie had learned to discover. There were all of these rules when it came to speaking the truth. Use it too casually and it came out as a weapon. Use it too little, and you run the risk of being seen as a liar.
When Eddie used it growing up, it was an arsenal waiting to go off. He knew what to say to get under someone’s skin. He was careful with his words, especially with his family. When he was stressed, the truth came out as a dagger. Sharp and deep.
Shannon had been cut by him too often. She bled out too much to risk staying longer than she had to. And so she left. Eddie didn’t deserve her. Not anymore.
Then there was the type of truth that felt like a lie.
This truth changed every aspect of someone’s life, and thus was ignored instantly. Like the truth that someone was attracted to both men and women. This truth took too long to admit as truth.
Then there was the truth that stayed hunkered down until it snuck out when they least expected it. Like telling the love of your life that you were leaving your second home. That you were unhappy.
Somehow, this truth felt like all three mixed into one. He hadn’t meant it to hurt Buck, nor meant it to be a lie.
