The boy laughs suddenly, but it is a hollow sound, without any humor to it. He looks at Shouta for the first time that night, and the man can see that the younger is sporting a mirthless grin.

He's just… tired.

Summary
When Hitoshi wakes up that morning, it is to a static numbness permeating his body, to a thick, cloying fog in his head.
Hitoshi draws a breath, and- he’s not hurt. His lungs are fine, his ribs are fine. He hasn’t gotten a rib broken in months, and breathing should be painless, should be easy. It shouldn't feel like a chore to breathe, but it does.
He feels like he's suffocating under the weight of the world.
