If you ever get sick of "rings on a string," you can go with "shirt button on a string." I can't remember the exact legend or find a reputable source of the story, but it goes along the lines of a one-night stand turning into true love. Man stays with young lady one night in the woods, next morning he goes to leave, but she asks for the button closest to his heart. He leaves and forgets about her. A few years later, he is down on his luck and wonders into the town where he first met the young woman, though he doesn't remember her. She has had his child and is in love with him. She recognizes him in his dirty rags and shows him the button. Memories slam back to the forefront of his mind and falls in love with the woman. They live happily ever after. I know it's an actual story and not just my imagination because I asked my sister if she knew the story, and she said she vaguely remembered it. Anyways, just thought I'd help you "mix it up" a bit.
I've never heard of this legend, though I imagine this is where the 'one-night stand turns into love' trope comes from. I'll keep it in mind next time. Thank you for reading and commenting!
