Comment on chasing gold

  1. oh my GOD I THOUGHT CHASING GOLD WAS ONLY REFERENCING TOORU CHASING GOLD MEDALS BUT IT WAS ALSO REFERENCING HAJIME CHASING TOORU WASNT IT IM 😭😭😭

    honestly this was!!! it was so well-written and beautiful and the longing was so strong and potent and heart-achingly good and so tender, and the way you kept calling back to certain phrases and conversations and memories to add to them and give them more layers of meaning was gorgeous and so very well-executed, thank you so much for writing!!!

    also the symbolic imagery of hajime and tooru (finally) getting together and leaving the volleyball forgotten was *chefs kiss*

    also also this is totally everything oikawa deserves esp from a cool narrative standpoint (like i saw these posts talk abt how he was the main character all along and how he was the real underdog and even tho i love karasuno and their story, i also cant exactly not agree??? haikyuu's just got superb characters tbh like u want the main characters to win but u also dont want to see anyone else lose bc they all work so hard!!!! but i digress) and when hajime was talking about how no one in japan knows tooru and then later when makki and mattsun and hajime all look at each other while they watch tooru play and know that the world knows oikawa now and it's what he deserves??? theyre RIGHT!!!

    anyways loved this whole character and relationship exploration thanks again for writing!!!

    1. AAAAAAAAA YES IT WAS I'M SO HAPPY YOU GOT IT!!!
      i thought i could psych everyone out because you think, OBVIOUSLY the fic is about oikawa trying to get a gold medal, BUT THEN iwa describes him with so much gold imagery attached and thinks of him as this beautiful golden boy who finally gets to be his in the end - and it would be like this "bam!" feeling x)

      i'm so happy you liked the fic so much!! ;;o;;
      honestly when i started this fic it wasn't MEANT to be this non-linear-ish narrative, but that's what it became naturally. maybe it's just my writing style that made it lean that way. but i also think it has to do a lot with iwaoi, and their lifetime together; they probably have SO many memories of each other filtering through their minds at any one time. they've got memories on top of memories, and the little moments stacked on top of THOSE. so i think it just suits them. idk what i'm trying to say, haha. i'm just happy you think it was executed well!!!

      oikawa deserves EVERYTHING, this boy has been through so much ;;v;;
      i think, after 6 years of being in this fandom and seeing everyone bemoan so much that oikawa never made it to nationals, i just really wanted to write a fic which showed that it doesn't matter. because he managed to make his dreams come true anyway, managed to let go of his regrets. that nationals didn't even really matter, in the grand scheme of things. he can still be happy, and he is :")

      (btw i totally get what you mean about wanting the main team to win but also not wanting the antagonists to lose. haikyuu charas are all so great, gah! karasuno has always been my favorite team, but the end to oikawa's journey just hit me the hardest. i think maybe it's because in my heart of hearts i always believed that kagehina would go pro, but oikawa was always up in the air. he has this tragic aura dripping off him. and especially when we saw he was playing for argentina, i really couldn't predict where he would end up. i should have known furudate always knows what they're doing and should trusted them)

      ANYWAY i have rambled long enough, GOOD GRIEF
      just, thank you so much for your lovely comment, my love!! it really meant a lot to me!!! i'm so happy you liked the fic!!!
