Poor Essek is trying his absolute best to flirt with Caleb who is just so oblivious. And of course Caleb only catches on after an intellectual monologue about philosophy.
I also love Essek's talk on spirituality, on consecution, on how of course you have imperfections, that's the whole point.
I think there are a lot of ways to spin Caleb's reaction, or non-reaction -- either that he doesn't notice, or that he notices but is for one of many possible reasons choosing not to respond. Either way, Essek's little monologue was enough to put Caleb over the threshhold to decide "okay, time to Go For It." :D
