I'm used to writing Mallory being grumpy and repressed, and very much in his head, so I had great fun letting him really rage over Sullivan. All that fury finally unleashed! As you say, sometimes we all need to hear someone else get angry in our defence, and poor Goodfellow really needed it here, when he didn't feel able to yell about things and let off steam himself.
Long distance is still difficult today, but I'm very grateful for all the technological advancements we have, especially video calls. Thinking about how people would have coped back then really brings that into focus. Lots of phone calls and letters, and saving up every bit of holiday time to spend together!
