Summary
Steve doesn't think twice when he agrees to help Tony out, even if it kills him inside to attend a gala as Tony's fake date. Tony doesn't know if he can keep up the pretense on this evening out as friends but it's as close as he can get to an actual date, so he takes it.
Things don't go as planned though, with all the pining, the pent-up feelings, and bumping into Tony's horrible, obnoxious ex, Ty Stone.

It’s not the last, either.
Steve doesn’t understand why he does it the first time: he takes the elevator down to the gym like normal, sets up his bag like normal… but he doesn’t wrap his hands the way he should, and he doesn’t understand why, but he leaves his hands bare anyway.
The sting of the first few punches are a fucking relief, and what does that say about him? What does it say about him as a person that he goes down here whenever he has something he doesn’t want to confront—whether it’s his own weakness or the idea that Tony is cheating on him.
Steve Rogers doesn't break. But when he hears Tony murmur a name in his sleep that isn't his own, it feels like he just might.
