“Do you know what day it is?”
“Saturday, last I remember?” Lily tries—though, it had been dark last she remembered, and this is clearly not.
The witch hums like she got it correct however, then asks, still peering into her pupils, “Do you know the year and date?”
“Umm, Halloween? 1981?”
The other witch promptly drops her wand.
“Guessing I got it wrong a bit?” Lily half jokes. [...]
“Umm. Yes—Well,” The witch stammers, paleing considerably. “W—Do you know your name, Miss?”
“Lily Potter.”
The witch in front of her loses what was left of the colour in her cheeks.
“Can you bring that other girl back? Hermione, I think? She seemed to be able to get through a conversation without looking like that.”

On Halloween, 1981, Lily Potter was murdered by Lord Voldemort. Or, rather, she thought she'd been. Instead she finds herself not dead, still 21, but in 1998, starkers, at Hogwarts in what is clearly the aftermath of a battle.
She's had better days.
