“…Hello?”
She whispers into the receiver, plucking it out of its cradle and holding it carefully, like it might shock her at any moment.
“Jackie???”
A voice - her voice - crackles out from the other end of the line.
“What the fuck?!”
She yelps, the phone slipping out of her hands and crashing to the floor, dragging the whole damn box down with it by its tightly coiled cord.
But she can still hear the faint voice on the other end of the line - the weird evil copy of her voice - saying,
“Jackie are you still there?? Don’t hang up-”
She rolls out of bed, scoops up the phone, and slams the cursed thing down in its cradle, collapsing back onto the bedspread with it clutched to her chest. Fuck that.
OR: Tai and Jackie wake up in each other's bodies the day before Nationals. Oops.

It feels like months ago now, though she's sure it's only been a couple of weeks since the night of their Nationals win when Laura Lee had kissed her; had pressed her lips so softly against hers, so fleeting and giddy that Lottie hadn’t even considered it a kiss, not at first, not until their lips had met again, firm and dizzying and unquestionably intentional.
That was supposed to be the confusing thing they were going to figure out together when they got back home, not this —not being hurled 25 years into the fucking future, a fucking future where Laura Lee is dead and Lottie is… Whatever that woman out there claiming to be her is.
