The Narrator didn’t know about the sheer, sick pleasure he derived from the countdown ending. The sheer gratification. Oh, Stanley didn’t even feel bothered anymore by the mocking laughter of the Narrator while he desperately fumbled through the ending.
So when the Narrator urges to try some new lines for their next countdown ending run, Stanley reaches a sort of… breaking point.
