At the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Harry pushes Sirius out of the way of Bellatrix’s spell. Sirius is saved, but Harry gets knocked into the Veil of Death. Except, the Veil works by taking someone’s soul, and Harry technically had two souls in him. So the Veil spit him back out. But time flows weirdly in the Veil, and he gets tossed out 20 years after he gets knocked in.
