“Any idea who the new captain is?” Chimney said to Hen as he walked into the station for there next shift.
“No clue.” Hen said. “Just that Ravi gave me a weird look when I asked him.”
“Also have you spoke to Buck?” Hen asked Chim wondering if Buck was still mad at all of them the last time seeing him was when he stormed out on them angry that neither of them wanted to be acting Captain while Bobby was recovering.
“Uh no he’s ignoring me except for texting me to call me traitor.” Chimney said sighing.
“He hasn’t even spoken to Maddie.” “I mean me I understand.” “But I think he’s being a little irrational not talking to his sister.”
“It’s Buck.” “He’s always been irrational.” Hen said trying to comfort Chimney.
“He’ll come around Chim once he sees that having someone else more suited to be captain for a longer period of time is better.” Hen tried.
“He knows we all love and respect Bobby.”
“He thinks we got a funny way of showing it.” Eddie said coming to join his friends.
“He’s even avoiding me.” Eddie said annoyed that Buck was also upset with him.
“Well then he’s really just being immature.” “And that says a lot for Buck.” “He can’t be mad at us forever.” Chim said rubbing his temples.
“Guys get up here!” Ravi said calling down to the team.
“I got a feeling we’re about to meet our new captain.” Eddie said as they made the climb up the stairs.
“I wouldn’t say new..just temporary.” Buck said smiling at all of them loving the shocked looks on all their faces.
“You guys can now call me Captain Buckley.” Buck said knowing this is not what any of them expected but not caring because he knows what he’s doing for Bobby is the right call.
And he’s not going to mess this up.
“I want to call you something else.” Eddie said a little mad Buck didn’t tell him about this.
“They let you really be Captain.” Chim said looking at Hen and seeing her mouth still open.
“Might want to close that you’ll catch a fly.” Buck said as he lightly tapped Hen with his clipboard not noticing that Chim was trying to stop Hen from saying something.
“On the first order of business.” Buck said smirking as he started his first speech as Captain.
He was going to enjoy telling this story to Bobby. He also wished he could take that picture for Athena.
He knew right now they could use a little humor. Boy did they.

“Captain Nash it’s nurse Helen.” The older nurse said as she walked into Bobby’s room.
“I’m here to give you a new medication it’s one of the ones Dr. Hale ordered to see if we can help prepare you for your surgery.
“Thank you Nurse Helen and you know you can call me Bobby too.” Bobby said kindly.
I’m sure you know me well enough already.” Bobby said joking.
“Oh stop.” Nurse Helen said smiling. “You’ve more than earned your title Captain.”
“Just like after 30 years I’ll always like being referred to as a nurse.” Nurse Helen said tapping Bobby making him laugh even tho she can see at the moment he was clearly in pain.
“Is your leg bothering you a lot more today?” Nurse Helen said as she put Bobby’s medicine into his I.V hoping it’ll bring him some relief.
“A little.” Bobby said wincing again.
“It should start helping.” Nurse Helen said as she went to take Bobby’s vitals.
“I feel it burning.” Bobby said going to grab at his leg forgetting about his shoulder still healing.
“Fuck!” Bobby said growing upset with himself. “I’m sorry Nurse Helen” Bobby said throwing his head back on his pillow.
“It’s not working.” “It’s not going to work.” Bobby said wanting to throw something.
“Captain..Bobby” Nurse Helen said. “It’s okay to feel angry.”
“To feel like things aren’t going well but that doesn’t mean they won’t.” The older woman said trying to comfort him and get his vitals to go down.
“I’m going to lose everything before I’ve even had a chance to have it again.” Bobby said trying to keep himself from getting more upset in front of his nurse.
“You won’t lose it if you keep trying.” “And I know for a fact your wife is not going to give up so easily either.”
“And if you do fail that’s what second and third chances are for.” Nurse Helen said knowing that must have got through to the fire captain seeing the loving look in his eyes having mentioned his beautiful wife.
“I think you’re right.” Bobby said thanking the older nurse for having helped calm him down a little.
“Why don’t we try another medication and see how that one does captain?” Nurse Helen suggested.
“I’ll also let Dr. Hale know this one didn’t go too well.” Nurse Helen said wanting to remain a little hopeful.
“Deal..as long as we don’t tell my wife about that one.” Bobby said laughing even while in pain.
“Don’t tell your wife what Bobby Nash?” Athena said in the doorway one hand on her hip and the other holding Robbie.
“Dadee!” Robbie said screaming happy to see Bobby.
“How about you tell me how your afternoon went Sargent.” Bobby said trying to change the subject as he went to reach for Robbie.

Rushing into the station with Robbie on her hip she stopped at the front desk.
“I got a call from the Captain I’m off duty.” Athena said trying to remain calm.
“Go ahead Sargent Nash she said you were on the way.” The officer at the front desk said.
“Thank you.” Athena said as made her way to her captains office not caring about the looks seeing as she had Robbie with her.
She knew most of them were wondering why she had a 4 year old little boy with her in a police station especially since most of them have known her since she started on the job.
“Mama” Robbie said a little scared. “Go.”
“It’s okay baby.” “We’ll be out of here soon and back with your daddy.” “He’s probably wanting us back just as much.”
Reaching Elaine’s office Athena knocked lightly trying her best to reel in her emotions.
“Come on Sargent.” “You can close the door.” Elaine said coming around to sit at the edge of her desk.
“So..what news do you have for me Captain.” Athena said readjusting Robbie again in her arms.
“I see this little guy has grown attached.” Elaine said trying to lighten the mood.
“Captain.” Athena said wanting to know what news was so important her captain made her rush down to the station when she should be with her husband.
“I’m sorry Athena.” “I wish I didn’t have to say this.” Elaine said.
“Say what?” Athena said “Tell me Elaine trust me there’s not much more that can shock me.” Athena said honestly running her fingers through Robbie’s little curls.
“Robbie’s biological mother made bail.” Elaine started saying.
“She showed up here after getting turned away from child protective services demanding her son be given back to her.” Elaine finished hating she had to be the one to tell Athena this.
“What!?” Athena said angry. How could this be happening to them right now? And how was she suppose to tell Bobby they could possibly be losing Robbie?
