When We Were Still Possible

Summary:

Yeonjun falls first.

For years, Soobin only sees him as his closest friend—the person beside him through every school day, every stupid joke, every late conversation, and every memory they make together.

Yeonjun waits.

He confesses. He gets rejected. He tries again. And somewhere between growing up and learning how to let go, he eventually stops hoping that Soobin will ever feel the same.

Except Soobin does.

He just realizes it far too late.

A story about two best friends growing up together, feelings that take years to understand, and the cruel timing of realizing you love someone only after they've learned how to live without you.

Notes:

This story is loosely based on my own experiences and feelings, making it very special to me. It’s also my first time writing a story, so thank you so much for reading and giving these characters a little piece of your time. I hope you enjoyed their story as much as I enjoyed writing it ♡

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Some people enter your life quietly.

No grand introduction. No warning. No promise that they will stay.

Sometimes, they are simply a stranger sitting by a window, a name you don't know yet, a face you notice without understanding why.

And then, somehow, they become part of your everyday life.

A seat beside you.

A message waiting on your phone.

Someone to look for in a crowded hallway.

Someone whose presence becomes so familiar that you begin to believe it will always be there.

Yeonjun and Soobin were never supposed to become anything more than friends.

But four years have a way of changing people.

They grew up together through ordinary mornings, unfinished conversations, laughter, rain-soaked afternoons, and feelings neither of them knew how to name.

There were moments when everything seemed possible.

And moments when timing quietly stood between them.

Because sometimes, the most unforgettable people aren't the ones who stay forever.

Sometimes, they are the ones who leave you with a memory you carry long after the moment has passed.

This is the story of Yeonjun and Soobin.

A story about friendship.

About growing up.

About the chances we don't recognize until they're gone.

And about two people who, for a little while, meant more to each other than either of them realized.
