Wine, Dine, Mine
Stiles Summer Stories 2026
When Gerard Carville married into the Argent family, there was a shift in the overall dynamic. It started small and gradually grew. His wife Adeline was the matriarch of the family, the oldest of three. And the true break happened when her brother Alexander died, after being bitten by a werewolf.
Grief-stricken and alienated from her older sister by Gerard, Albertine Argent left the states and returned to France. The majority of the Argents had left France behind years ago, but those that had remained welcomed Albertine back with open arms.
However, this left Adeline and her two children alone with Gerard. When Adeline died, nobody could prove that Gerard had anything to do with it. Most never even suspected anything. A loving husband and father, a smart business man, devoted to the family. Or so it seemed.
Kate had been too young when their mother had died to really remember much about Adeline, beyond warm smiles and the vague sense of having a loving mother at one point. Chris had been ten years old and he still had quite vivid memories of his mother. But all the memories in the world couldn’t protect him from the abuse and the way Gerard was twisting both siblings.
But Chris endured it. Tried to protect his little sister. At one point, he started to believe that this way really was the right way. Manipulated and abused for too long by his father. But when his father first caught him sneaking around with another boy in college, Gerard had given Chris the beating of a lifetime. The first time the man put his son into the hospital. When Chris got out, he was engaged to Victoria Arquette, a headstrong woman from an allied hunter family.
From thereon out, Chris kept his head down even more. He got married, as his father wanted. Had a daughter, as his father wanted. An heir to the Argent name, the next matriarch. Or so Allison was hailed, or so Gerard boasted when he let all other branches of the family know. Chris had his doubts, very quietly to himself. After all, he had a sister. Why wasn’t Kate the matriarch?
But Chris remained a good son, a good husband, a good father, a good soldier.
Until Allison turned seventeen and Gerard tried to sink his claws into her. Chris had managed to shield her from this life so far, give her a normal and happy childhood. But Gerard had set his eyes on her and decided it was time to train her. Chris had broken down in the bathroom in absolute despair, overwhelmed by memories of every horrid, painful thing he had ever endured.
He tried to talk to Victoria about it, but she was proud of that. Proud to be the mother of the next matriarch of the Argent family. She agreed with Gerard and Chris had to realize that he stood alone. He had nobody. He would be forced to watch his daughter become Gerard’s puppet, carved and twisted into something she was not. The thought was horrifying enough to make Chris act.
“Bonjour, c’est Bertie. Qui est à l’appareil?” [French trans.: Hello, here’s Bertie. Who’s this?]
Chris’ voice was as shaky as his hand holding his phone. “Aunt Albertine…? I… It’s Chris.”
He paused, wondering if he needed to explain who he was. It had been thirty years now that he’d last seen his aunt, at his mother’s funeral. Did Albertine even remember him…? Would she care?
“Christopher?” Bertie asked surprised. “Adele’s boy? Oh, it’s been too long, dear. How are you?”
Okay. Okay, that was good, right? That was a good start. He took a steadying breath.
“I… I need your help,” Chris admitted reluctantly. “I’m sorry I’m only calling when I need something. I know it’s been a long time. I know you owe me nothing.”
“What do you need, dear boy?” Bertie cut in.
“I need to get out of here. I need to get my daughter out of here.”
And just like that, everything poured out of him. What his sister had done to the Hales, how she had gotten her throat torn out for it. What Gerard had twisted the Argent name and motto into. He said everything he had never dared to voice. That he thought Gerard might have killed his mother. That he was gay, that he was stuck in a loveless marriage with a woman as eager to twist their daughter as Gerard was. How afraid he was. How small and helpless his father made him feel.
“I will take care of everything. You don’t worry, just stick with your daughter.”

Aunt Bertie had kept her promise. Only days later, Rose Argent Rambeau came knocking at his door while Victoria was out. Chris couldn’t name how exactly they were related, he knew their great-great-grandparents had been siblings. Rose was from the Canadian branch of the family. She was a lawyer and she took Chris out for coffee to talk in peace.
“I just… I don’t know…” Chris shifted uncomfortably. “He’s my father.”
“Honey, the way you told me, he nearly beat you to death and then sold you off into an arranged marriage,” Rose raised both her eyebrows. “I specialize in cases like that. Family law, specifically about queer abused kids or spouses. I’m a lesbian, I know how much we have to fight sometimes. But that’s the thing. We do need to fight. And you don’t have to fight alone.”
She reached out a hand to cover his, giving it a gentle squeeze. She was something else. Powerful and regal, in the way Chris’ mother had been. Confident and a leader. He supposed that went well with a lawyer. Her hair fell in tight coils down to her shoulders, big, golden jewelry – bracelets and earrings – contrasting against her dark skin, her lips pained bright pink and pulled into a smile.
“She knows, doesn’t she? Your wife, that you’re gay,” Rose asked.
Chris gave a shrug and averted his eyes. “I told her, before we got married. She knew, even before. She said she didn’t care as long as I fulfilled my duties.”
“Oh, honey,” Rose sighed and gave his hand another squeeze. “Here’s what we’re going to do. We’re filing for a divorce and for sole custody. I believe Bertie got you covered after that.”
At that point, Chris didn’t quite know what that meant, but he decided to trust his family.
/break\
Trusting his family had paid off. Rose was vicious and cutting in court and Chris got to walk out of that with sole custody. Allison was already seventeen anyway, by the time the divorce was through, she was practically eighteen. But the important part had been to get her away from Victoria and Gerard during that. Rose helped. Rose’s wife Bree helped too, had helped Chris and Allison get an apartment, was company to him while Rose was busy with the case.
And when it was all said and done, Rose and Bree dropped them off at the airport and Chris hugged them tighter than he’d ever hugged anyone aside from Allison. He couldn’t thank them enough.
Twenty hours later, Chris and Allison first stepped foot into Château Argent, after Valentin – Bertie’s son-in-law – had picked them up from the airport and driven them to Gévaudan, where the Argent family resided. The town the Argents had been protecting for over two centuries now.
“Christopher! Allison! You’re finally home!”
Bertie was a petite woman, but she hugged like a bear. Her face was worn-out from the long life she’d lived and her eyes sparkled as she peppered them both with kisses. Her hair was white. Chris remembered, when he’d last seen her, it had been a soft brown. It really had been a long time.
“Thank you,” Chris whispered. “For having us.”
“Oh, dear boy,” Bertie smiled at him and shook her head. “You’re family. Of course. Now come, come! Valentin, help them with their luggage!”
“Yes, maman,” Valentin chuckled and picked up Allison’s suitcase.
/break\
It took a while for Chris and Allison to get settled in. Everything was so different from what they knew. Yes, both were fluent in French, but it was more than that. The landscape, the culture, the people. Most specifically the people they now lived with.
Château Argent was a multi-generational household. Aunt Bertie lived there with her daughter Aline, Aline’s husband and their two children, Alexis and Audrey. Though those two weren’t exactly children anymore either, Audrey was Allison’s age and Alexis was a few years older.
Allison was quick to befriend Audrey and Alexis and she seemed to really blossom in Gévaudan. Chris took a little longer, was a little more reluctant. A little more jaded. But the family was patient. Valentin took him out onto the mountain and had him help with the more physical aspects of owning a vineyard, figuring the exercise might help him settle. It did. Aline did the day to day business, not just of the vineyard. She was the matriarch of this branch of the family and the Argents did still hunt around here, but they hunted to protect their town.
It took even longer for Chris to be comfortable to get involved in that. But he marveled at how different this branch of the family was run, as compared to the vice-grip Gerard had had over their family home in New Orleans. It got easier, with time. Until it became home.
When Alexis got married, the family had a grand celebration and it finally clicked for Chris that this was home, that this was his family. About a year later, Alexis and his wife Henriette had a baby.
“Oh, she is beautiful,” Allison gasped and leaned over the baby.
“The Argent genes are strong, dear,” Bertie pointed out with twinkling eyes. “You’re proof too.”
Alexis sat next to his wife on the bed, staring in awe at their baby. Alexis’ sister Audrey was by his side, smiling proudly and patting her brother on the back.
“Would you like to hold her, uncle Chris?” Alexis offered.
Uncle Chris. Because that was what Chris had become over the short few years since they’d moved to Gévaudan. Aline had become more like a sister than a cousin – and it hurt, sometimes it hurt a lot, when he’d remember Kate and miss the little sister he once had – and Valentin had become a best friend like Chris didn’t remember ever having had one.
“What’s… What’s her name?” Chris asked as he carefully took the baby.
“Annmarie,” Henriette answered with a smile. “Annmarie Argent.”
“Hello, Annmarie,” Allison cooed, leaning over her father’s shoulder. “Oh, you are adorable.”
“Watch it,” Valentin chuckled. “You sound like you’re catching baby-fever.”
“Absolutely not, uncle Val,” Allison yelped. “I am notoriously single and I am not doing that alone. I am catching auntie fever. Very ready to become an excellent aunt.”
“I’m sorry,” Audrey spoke up offended. “As Alexis’ smarter, prettier and more talented sister, I have a lot to impart on my niece. I will be the number one aunt.”
“Guess we’ll see about that,” Allison challenged with a grin.
“Someone in this room could have objected to Audrey’s claims,” Alexis muttered sullenly. “My parents. My grandmother. My wife. Anyone at all.”
“Oh, honey,” Aline smiled at her son. “You are very pretty.”
“...Somehow, that was worse, mother,” Alexis muttered with a frown.
The family laughed at Alexis’ misery. It was so easy to laugh with them. To feel loved, in a way Chris hadn’t since his mother had died. He looked at his daughter and was overcome with relief that she would get to live in a family like this. That she would get to fall in love with whoever she liked and would get to have kids on her own schedule, if she wanted them at all. That these would be her choices and would not be taken away from her or dictated by others.
/break\
The Château Argent became more than just a vineyard when Audrey took more charge, next to her mother. They renovated and opened the doors for tourists. Additional income. And a good cover, for the traveling hunters who came to visit the Argents, or for their own hunters who stayed for debriefings. That girl had a good sense of business, both the wine business as well as the hunter business, and Chris thought that aunt Bertie had a good heir in her granddaughter.
“Where are you kids off to?” Chris asked with a frown. “We have work to do.”
Allison smiled and kissed his cheek. “You and uncle Val look like you got it covered. We are having a girls night and seeing a movie. That new spy movie with Kira Yukimura is out. Outfoxed.”
Chris’ frown deepened at that. He’d seen Allison and Audrey watch the trailer and he had maybe lingered and gaped a little too. Not because of Kira though, but because of her co-star. Stiles. No last name on that boy. He was beautiful and stunning. The two played unlikely allies turned lovers who took out a corrupt governmental agency on their own.
“Let the kids have a night off, Chris,” Valentin smiled amused. “Honestly, we could use a night off too. What do you say, you, me, a bottle of wine on the balcony? Kicking back?”
Before Chris could protest did Allison agree. “Yes. Go and have some fun, dad.”
“Right,” Chris sighed and watched Allison, Audrey and Henriette walk away while giggling.
Valentin grabbed a bottle of wine and then got grabbed by his wife who decided to join them out on the balcony after a long day of work. Aline kicked off her high-heels and put her feet on the table as she stretched long while Valentin filled up glasses for the three of them.
“Your daughter is right, Chris,” Valentin looked at him. “You could use some fun too. You basically always work, or find a project to work on, be that around the Château, or for the hunt. You do know that ever since you moved here, my son has gotten engaged, married and had a daughter.”
“Unsure how these things are related,” Chris muttered confused.
“You are free, you could date someone,” Aline pointed out with emphasis, waving her arms. “Live a little, cousin! Find a nice man, it doesn’t have to be the love of your life, it can just be fun.”
“I don’t do fun,” Chris huffed and shot her a look.
“We noticed,” both Valentin and Aline said rather pointedly.
Chris glowered and took one of the glasses for himself. Five years now, that he’d been living in France. He had fooled around, but never more than a string of repeated one-night-stands. He didn’t quite know if he was meant for a real relationship. For finding romantic love. He was still so grateful for the familial love he got to find here, that was more than enough.
/break\
By the time Outfoxed 2 premiered, Chris had a bad celebrity crush on Stiles. The boy’s big doe-eyes had captivated him and after watching Outfoxed, he might have fallen off the deep end of the boy’s filmography. Chris’ favorite had to be the horror movie where Stiles played a possessed character. The range Stiles had was overwhelmingly impressive, between the frightened, haunted boy and the vicious demon wearing his face. Chris was hooked. Completely gone.
The worst was that one queer coming off age story though, where Stiles played a boy from a small town and went to college to become a lawyer, falling in love with his law professor. Chris wasn’t proud of the fact that he’d jerked off an unreasonable amount to the sex scenes in that movie. But the way Stiles arched and moaned, the curve of his bare ass…
“Chris, can you get the room ready?” Aline called out, tearing Chris out of his thoughts. “The couple that’s arriving today, the Stilinskis. Mountain view.”
“Right,” Chris shook his head. “On it.”
When the first Outfoxed had been released, they’d still been finishing up the renovations to make this a vineyard and a bed and breakfast. By now, they had established themselves well and had pretty good reviews online. Business was going well.
“I think,” Henriette spoke up as she carried fluffed-up bedding into the room. “I think that this is going to be an excellent season. I have a feeling for these things.”
“Let’s hope you’re right,” Chris smiled at her. “Let’s also hope we get less barely legal drunkards who don’t appreciate the wine or the scenery and just want to party.”
“Those bring money too,” Henriette argued with a grin. “But yes. I do prefer the sweet grandparents who enjoy quiet nights in and tip very, very well.”
Chris opened the windows and looked out over their vineyard. “I wonder what kind of people the Stilinskis are going to be. Maybe sweet grandparents who enjoy quiet nights in?”
“Mh. I did see their age in the file and my bet is more newly weds,” Henriette mused.
Well, newly weds could be nice too. Though lately, they did fill Chris with a certain longing. Maybe he was getting too old for one-night-stands. He’d had a few proper relationships by now, but nothing that latest more than a couple months. He wondered if love was ever going to find him.

Stiles took a deep breath and closed his eyes as he stepped out of the car. “Smell the air, Ki.”
Next to him, Kira sniffed. “...What am I smelling for?”
“Frenchness,” Stiles declared with confidence. “It smells French. Nothing like back in Cali.”
“You are so full of it,” Kira huffed and shoved him. “Come on, I’m tired. I need a nap.”
“Ye—es,” Stiles groaned and went to grab his bags. “Nap sounds so good.”
They’d been in the car for three hours, thanks to bad traffic. It should have only been a bit over two hours. They’d been at the Cannes Film Festival and had figured, hey, if flying all the way to France, why not make a vacation out of it. After a bit of back and forth, the two friends had settled on the very cute town of Gévaudan and found a lovely little family-owned vineyard they booked.
“Hello,” Stiles smiled brightly and then immediately paused. “Uh. Do you… speak English?”
Kira next to him winced as she had the same mortifying realization as him. They did not speak French. Kira liked to say she barely spoke English, according to her high school grades. But hey, they were both filthy rich regardless of that so they were doing something right. They could have, however, thought their trip to France through a tiny bit more. The brunette woman at the reception just stared at them bewildered. Mh. Not the best sign.
“Parlet… uh… Anglease?” Kira tried, scrunching her face up.
Stiles was about eighty percent sure that was not how either of these words were pronounced. However, he never took French in school either, he’d had Spanish and Latin and that was really enough. He doubted the lady living in a small town in France would find use in either of those.
“Allison!”
Both Kira and Stiles jumped a little at the very, very loud and slightly screechy yell from the receptionist. Moments later and a very beautiful black-haired woman came running down the stairs, clearly alarmed by her colleague’s yelling. Stiles turned toward her with a smile.
“Why are you yelling like that, Audrey, I swear if you are not being actively robb…”
“Oh, good, English,” Kira heaved a sigh and grasped her heart with a smile.
“You see them too, right, Allison?” Audrey, the receptionist whispered. “I am not having a heat-stroke from being out in the fields all morning and am now having hallucinations because we watched both Outfoxed movies last night for like the three hundredth time. Right?”
Stiles blinked and snorted softly. Oh. Okay. So it wasn’t about the language barrier, it was about them. And who they were. Maybe also something Stiles could have considered before, he supposed. Allison went to join Audrey behind the desk and both were staring at Stiles and Kira the same way.
“Papa,” Allison yelled out, somehow even louder than Audrey had.
Stiles turned some to exchange an amused look with Kira. His amusement froze when Allison’s father came to join them because hello, sir. Biting his lower lip slowly, Stiles dragged his eyes over that man. He was fine as hell, his strong biceps shown off by the rolled up sleeves as he had been outside doing work, sweat on his brow and running down between the open top buttons of his shirt, drawing Stiles’ attention to the bit of silver chest-hair peaking out. His brows were furrowed and his eyes were so, so blue and his beard was silver-streaked and Stiles was ready to swoon.
“Hi,” Stiles spoke up and took a step forward. “Yes, we are real. We are not a… what was that? Hallucination because of a heatstroke and a movie marathon?”
“But why would you be here,” the handsome man asked, looking genuinely lost.
“Well, because we, uh, booked a room here?” Stiles turned to look at Kira, who nodded. “We’re fresh off the Cannes Film Festival and figured we’d use the time to enjoy France and its beauty and also its wine. So… we booked this very lovely vineyard. I believe you have our reservation under M. Stilinski? Two people, three weeks?”
“Stilinski,” the handsome man blinked and then tilted his head. “Stiles.”
Stiles did finger-guns and winked. “Got it on first try.”
The man kept staring at him before he shook his head and then stepped forward. “Sorry. This… unexpected. Hello, I’m Chris Argent, welcome to our vineyard. Audrey here will check you in. Can I take your luggage up to your room already?”
“Right. Checking in our guests,” Audrey nodded slowly. “So sorry. I, uh, I’ve had a crush on you ever since Teen Detective, you were so cute and smart.”
Stiles laughed softly. Teen Detective had been his breakthrough role when he was thirteen, playing the titular teen detective, who – together with his childhood best friend – sneaked into the files of his dad the police captain and solved the crimes before the cops could. That role had put him on the map and he’d jumped off from it to make a big career out of it.
“Would you like a selfie together?” Stiles offered, always kind to his fans.
Audrey squeaked in a way that had Stiles wince and the next moment she had her phone out.
“Audrey, that’s highly unprofessional,” Chris frowned at her in disapproval.
“I don’t mind,” Stiles reassured the man, assuming him to be Audrey’s boss. “I offered. I mean, wouldn’t be where I am without my fans, so I’m trying to pay it back when I get the chance.”
Chris was still frowning, but he also nodded his acceptance before taking the luggage. Oh, the view from the back was as enchanting. Stiles licked his lips at the way those jeans hugged the man. And then he got pulled in by Audrey for the selfie and smiled into the camera.
/break\
Stiles was at the vineyard. Stiles. Famous movie-star Stiles was at their family vineyard. Was right now asleep in the very bed Chris had made for him that morning. Chris found it impossible to sleep knowing that his celebrity crush – as horrible as he found the term and as much as he found himself too old for those things – was sleeping in the guest annex right now.
Theoretically, he had known that Stiles was in France and was close by. Interviews had been all over social media lately. They had come to the festival together, though they came to represent different movies. Kira had been in a truly gripping horror movie about a young woman haunted by the ghosts of dead warrior women from different time periods, until she accepted them as her mentors. Stiles had been in a devastating psychological drama about family and loss that had Chris crying like a child. Online, they claimed to be supporting each other. But the running theories were that it was either a publicity stunt for an Outfoxed 3, or that the long-standing rumors were true and Stiles and Kira were romantically involved with each other.
Considering that they’d booked a room together, for the next three weeks, in the romantic, little wine country that Chris lived in, he supposed that all the gossip was true after all. It was stupid to feel a pang of jealousy at the thought, but over recent years, Stiles’ movies – and his TV shows – had become such a big point of comfort to him. He might have buried himself in them to avoid the real world, avoid his family’s pushing about finding someone. He knew it was parasocial and really dumb of him, to develop any kind of attraction beyond sexual just based on the persona Stiles presented online and in his movies. Chris was self-aware enough for that. Didn’t make it easier to stop though. The boy was so charming and alluring.
With a heavy sigh did Chris roll out of bed and decide to go outside, catch some fresh air. Clearly sleep was evading him and he was going in circles in his head. He breathed deep when he stepped out of the building and into the chilly night-air. He loved the quiet sounds of night.
“Uhm. Hi. I hope it’s okay that I’m here? I don’t really know, I mean, it’s not like there’s a ‘curfew’ or anything but this is also like… not a huge hotel complex, it’s your home, so it feels kinda awkward to be walking about like that. Couldn’t sleep though. Time zones and shit.”
Chris blinked slowly and looked at the boy who had been haunting his thoughts already. Stiles stood there, wearing a loose shirt with an orange kitsune on it. Kira’s character from that DnD cartoon show that Annmarie loved and that ran every Sunday morning during breakfast in their household. It was cute, that Stiles was wearing his girlfriend’s merch.
“It’s fine,” Chris assured him with a shake of his head. “I hope you’re enjoying your stay with us so far. If there’s anything else you need, ask anyone from the family.”
Stiles tilted his head, his eyes intense in a way that had Chris shudder (and Chris really hoped it came off as a temperature-related shudder). “Can I ask about that or is that rude?”
“About what?” Chris frowned confused.
“Your family,” Stiles gave a half-shrug. “Like, is… everyone here related? And how?”
“No. We do have hired helps, particularly seasonal for the harvest,” Chris chuckled. “The people you met so far who are part of the family are my aunt Bertie, my cousin Aline, her husband Valentin is our cook, I don’t think you’ve met him yet. Their kids are Audrey and Alexis – the receptionist and your waiter from dinner today. Alexis’ wife Henriette does most of the housekeeping around here and the two have a daughter, Annmarie, who doesn’t work here yet but you will be run into by her repeatedly. She is four and has yet to learn boundaries, so apologies in advance.”
“Okay, cool,” Stiles nodded, a small smile on his lips. “Having a big family must be great.”
Despite himself, Chris had to chuckle, as he thought about Rose and Bree, who had been visiting the vineyard a couple times over the years during school breaks with their own kids, and other Argents Chris had met through them. He wouldn’t even be able to draw the family tree to place them all, but yes, one could call the Argents a big family.
“You could say that,” Chris offered instead. “It’s also chaotic and exhausting though.”
“Eh, that sounds fine to me,” Stiles shot him a grin. “So… Your English is great and we are really grateful that you’re all fluent in it, honestly. We kinda forgot about that. Or rather, we did the entitled American thing of assuming everyone speaks English.”
“We are American,” Chris replied, relaxing a little into the conversation.
“What. Now I feel cheated,” Stiles huffed offended. “I come to a small town in France for a French experience and I am staying with Americans?”
“Well, our family is originally from Gévaudan, but Bertie’s…” Chris paused as he tried to remember the way she had told him. “Grandfather? Yes. Her grandfather had migrated to New Orleans, back in the day. My mother, Bertie and their brother grew up in New Orleans. But… Bertie, she… after her brother died, she left. Found comfort and support right here, with her grandfather’s brother and his family. Kind of did what I did, I suppose. Ran to the family.”
Stiles was frowning at him curiously. “What were you running from? No. Wait. That’s a bit too personal. I mean, we only just met, and I’m a guest and you probably don’t want to tell me your life story. Sorry I asked. Forget it.”
Chris looked at the boy, looked at him hard and long. “Maybe some other night? Over wine?”
What a ridiculous proposal. He really was too sleep deprived, suggesting something like that to someone like Stiles, who had fame and wealth and also youth. The years between them were painfully obvious, so even if Stiles wasn’t a world-famous movie star with enough money to buy the entire damn town if he wanted to, there were still enough obstacles there for Chris to ever stand a reasonable chance with the boy. He smiled thinly and turned away.
“I’ll take you up on that,” Stiles said, before Chris could go back inside. “Some other night.”
“Good night, Stiles,” Chris smiled at him one last time, more genuine this time.
/break\
“Are you flirting with the intimidating owner?” Kira asked seriously, about a week into their stay.
“Bertie is a little too old for me,” Stiles admitted with a frown.
“Bertie is a sweetheart,” Kira rolled her eyes. “You know exactly who I’m talking about.”
She kicked Stiles under the table for good measure and glared pointedly into the direction of sweaty Chris out in the sun, carrying… something. Stiles wasn’t sure exactly what Chris was doing, because he couldn’t move past the man’s bare chest. No shirt. Just abs and chest-hair and tattoos and sweat and bye, bye, Stiles’ higher brain-functions.
“Hypocrites do not get to judge me,” Stiles pointed out dryly. “Or do you think I haven’t seen the googly eyes you make at Allison? You giggle at her jokes. Straight-up giggle.”
Kira kicked him again, this time much harder. He winced and rubbed his leg, glaring at her.
“Do not damage the goods this shortly before I start filming the underdog sports movie, woman,” Stiles warned her. “Lydia will have your head for it, you know it.”
Kira stuck her tongue out at him with a pout. “She’s just so pretty. And sweet. She’s been showing me around town, you know. While you were busy drooling over her father.”
“He’s a fine man,” Stiles muttered, motioning wildly at Chris.
He froze up when the man in question looked at him with his head tilted, reluctantly waving back. Okay. At least his motioning had looked like he was waving, that was good. That was way better than if it came off as ‘I want to climb all that’.
“It’s not like I’m really going to hook up with him,” Stiles muttered with a pout as he returned to Kira. “I do remember how much it sucked last time I tried something with a fan.”
They both looked sour at the memory of Theo and Kira was quick to refill their glasses. For a couple minutes, they drank quietly. Just the sound of the Argents talking among themselves in the background to accompany them. Stiles liked it. He found the family very… lively. The kind he hadn’t known himself, his family had been only him and his dad for so long.
/break\
Chris ended up telling Stiles about his more immediate family, about two weeks into the boy’s stay in Gévaudan. The wine had loosened his tongue, the food was good and hearty and the company was just too damn enchanting. If Chris thought he’d had a crush on Stiles’ public persona, then he was very quickly gone on the real Stiles. And yes, he would boldly claim that this was the real Stiles. There were no cameras, no paparazzi. Just Stiles and his best friend, enjoying a vacation. Which was what kickstarted this conversation. Chris more or less accidentally commented on the relationship, and Stiles had laughed and then been mildly mortified.
“No,” Stiles shook his head and lifted his glass to his lips, hiding a smile behind it. “Off the record, but there’s never been anything between us, and never will be. Let’s say we have… opposite interests, if you know what I mean. Which I think you do, because I think you’re playing for my team too. And Kira, let’s say she’s playing a whole different sport.”
Chris’ eyes widened and he settled in more comfortably. The evening was warm and comfortable and the way the setting sun was hitting Stiles made his eyes look golden. Chris relaxed, enjoying the way the two of them sat together. It felt… intimate.
“In a way, I had to do that too. Play straight,” Chris whispered softly. “After my father learned that I’m gay. Forced me to marry a nice young lady, from a respectable, befriended family.”
Stiles’ face twisted at that and he opened his mouth, before he closed it again and shook his head. “Doubt you want to hear any pity or apologies about that.”
“Yeah,” Chris nodded, a small smile on his lips. “Aunt Bertie, she really… She saved me. I had no idea how to get out of that, what to do. She got me a lawyer, a plane ticket, a job, a home, a… a new family. This? This is my second chance.”
“That’s… That’s great,” Stiles sounded genuine and gentle. “I’m glad you got that. And damn, you could have done much worse than a beautiful Château in France, huh?”
That had Chris laughing and the atmosphere between them relaxed again, turning more away from the seriousness of the conversation. They drifted off into more trivial things and Chris got to just enjoy Stiles’ company. Something that was dangerously easy.

Even the best vacation had to come to an end, and both Kira and Stiles had work to get back to. The hug between Kira and Allison definitely lasted longer than would have been normal and Stiles knew they’d exchanged numbers. Stiles hadn’t been as daring with Chris, on either of those.
Eight months later, they were back at the vineyard though and maybe Stiles was a little stalkerish with that. But to be fair, when Lydia was looking for a wedding venue – what would be more perfect than the beautiful, scenic French vineyard? It was made for the occasion, really.
Chris and the other Argents were left stunned when Stiles first reached out and asked if they’d host the wedding party of Lydia Martin and Jackson Whittemore. She was a big-name producer, he was her boytoy. Okay, fine, he was an action movie star. But Stiles used the term ‘star’ very loosely. He was a pretty boy and was put into the movies to be pretty.
“I gotta admit, I didn’t expect to see you again.”
Stiles turned around, a broad grin spreading over his lips, his heart speeding up. He had missed Chris. He shouldn’t have. They’d only known each other for three short weeks. But Stiles kept thinking about the man. He stepped up into Chris’ space and hugged him, clearly startling the man. But before Stiles could get self-conscious and step back again did Chris wrap his arms tightly around Stiles’ waist. Stiles inhaled deeply and closed his eyes. Why did this feel so good?
“Just couldn’t stay away,” Stiles whispered. “I just feel very drawn to… Gévaudan.”
“Right,” Chris chuckled, his eyes crinkling with his smile. “C’mon, I’ll show you your room.”
“Please say it’s the one the farthest away from groomzilla and the bossy bride,” Stiles pleaded. “I don’t want to hear their pre-wedding fighting, or their post-wedding fucking.”

Maybe it was the champagne, maybe it was the atmosphere of a wedding and the celebration of love, maybe it was the hope born from the fact that Stiles had come back, maybe it was the way Aline kept egging him on, maybe it was the way Allison and Kira were dancing with each other, close and tightly pressed together. It was probably a combination of all of that. But somehow, Chris found himself daring enough to approach Stiles and ask for a dance too. Stiles was surprised at first, but then seemed quite pleased as he accepted. And he fit so perfectly into Chris’ arms.
“So…” Stiles drawled softly. “You know, Outfoxed 3 is going to start filming soon. And there’s a lot of chases through the French countryside happening. And I might have… maybe… suggested this wedding venue to Lydia to make her see the beauty of this place.”
Chris frowned and leaned away enough to look at the boy in his arms. “What are you saying?”
“That Kira and I might be sticking around for the next… ten to fifteen months,” Stiles said, biting his lips. “Which might be why Kira is currently… kissing your daughter.”
Chris turned them both so he could see Allison and Kira. He stared in surprise. Yes, he’d known about Allison’s crush on Kira – a celebrity crush at first too, just like Chris’ on Stiles, but just like Chris, his daughter had fallen harder after getting to know Kira.
“Okay,” Chris nodded slowly. “That… I’m happy for them.”
“Not the point, do not care – I mean, yes, happy for them, but being happy for them isn’t why I pointed it out,” Stiles huffed in frustration. “God, I wanna kiss you so badly.”
Now, Chris was staring at Stiles in surprise. Until the boy reached out to cup his cheeks and pull him into a soft kiss. That… was even more shocking than Allison and Kira. Chris melted against the boy in his arms, pulling Stiles closer, even as he could hear the teasing whistling from his family.
“What… is this?” Chris asked against Stiles’ lips.
“I… don’t know yet,” Stiles gave a half-shrug. “I just know that I have been thinking about you so much since I left. I know relationships with fans can get messy, but I feel… I thought we really had a connection and even knowing the risks, I want to try. I want to see where this could go.”
“So much so that you are relocating your movie shoot here?” Chris asked softly.
“Sounds a bit stalkerish. You should get a restraining order, maybe,” Kira suggested slyly.
“Shut up and go kiss your own Argent,” Stiles hissed at her and pulled Chris further away from the two girls, even as Allison shot her dad a look and gave him a thumbs up. “Okay, look. I know it’s kinda creepy and probably overstepping. But… yeah. It’d put me in close proximity for about a year and… I thought that’d give us enough time to at least… try and see where this could go? Also, I mean, the location is perfect for the shoot, okay? So I didn’t fully hijack things.”
Chris smiled, completely enamored, and leaned in for another kiss. Slower, this time. Deeper too. Stiles gasped softly into the kiss and his arms wound around Chris’ neck. Was that it, then? After all these years, had happiness finally found him? Tracked him down and stalked him a little? He grinned against Stiles’ lips and pulled the boy even closer. Perhaps, after everything, he needed love and happiness to be a little more pushy with him. Perhaps Stiles was exactly what he needed.
