Rise of Gotham's Spider

Summary:

Peter Parker never knew his parents, as far as he knows he was born within this strange compound, his only knowledge of having a family is from the scientists telling him he was abandoned, and that he will make their dreams come true, until the League of Assassins takes him away and forces him into their ranks with the expectation of greatness weighing on his shoulders.

Notes:

Chapter 1: The Birth of The Spider

Chapter Text

Peter Parker has lived within the walls of this compound for as long as he can remember, which admittedly wasn’t very long. He was raised inside of the compound which wasn’t all bad up until his 6th birthday when everything changed. Overnight, Peter’s day to day life had gone from semi-peaceful, to hell on earth. For the next few years of his life he followed a strict cycle of waking up, eating, conditioning, studying, and sleeping. Occasionally he would be taken to a lab where they would get scans and DNA samples. Later on, he finds out that these visits to the lab were all for an experiment in genetic mutation, and that he was their guinea pig, their last hope before being cut off from funding.

It was the final day of the experiments, and also the first time Peter ever saw someone not wearing a lab coat. The man that stood before him looked old, with thick strips of grey running along the sides of head. The clothes he wore were unlike anything he had seen, which was limited to sweat pants, plain shirts, and lab coats. The man- Al Ghul as the scientists called him- carried himself with dignity and confidence but he had this strange air around him that didn’t quite sit right with him and wasn’t helped by the look of disgust and disappointment he gave Peter.

The scientists quickly ushered Peter to the lab, with the strange new man following closely behind. The experiment was started before Peter even had a chance to collect himself as he was all but carried to a table that he quickly found himself strapped down to while another doctor readied a needle and stuck it into his arm. The events that happen after the needle were a bit hazy to Peter. He felt a sting in his neck as something began flowing into him, burning like lava as it travelled throughout his body and the sound of a rhythmic thump filled his head until his vision turned black.

“I hope you remember that this had better work doctor,” Ra’s, who gives a calm look at the head scientist, says. The scientist in question fumbles over his words as he tries to reassure Ra’s that this will work, and that he stakes his life on it. Hours pass by until Peter finally begins to stir, finding himself in what looks to be a test chamber, with white padded walls, a one-way mirror covering the entire eastern wall with speakers at every corner of the room. In the center of the room was a silver ball, which stood out in the white room.

“Peter, could you pick that ball up for us?” Peter hears, the static from the microphone piercing his ears causing him to flinch. He shakes it off and walks towards the ball as he goes to pick it up. The ball itself was lighter than Peter had expected, nearly launching it into the air when he first picked it up but found that he was unable to let the ball go, despite him wildly shaking his hand until it stopped sticking to him and went flying through the mirror, much to his own surprise.

“Well, it seems that this wasn’t a complete waste of my time,” Ra’s says as he looks at Peter, who was struggling to get his hands to stop sticking to his clothes. The rest of the day goes by, with Peter learning how to stop sticking to things as he rests in his room, which is more like a prison cell than a room. Ra’s Al Ghul takes this time to speak with the scientists, informing them that he will be taking Peter with him. Some of the scientists protest, those that do not know the cruelty of the man before them, and before their peers can stop them, their heads fall off of their shoulders, silencing the room.

Ra’s looks around the room, seeing the anger and despair on the faces of the scientists.

“It truly is such a shame,” He says as he gives a slight flick of his wrist, a signal that none of the scientists know the meaning of, but quickly learns when their peers start to fall over, blades sticking out of their chests as they fall one by one. Making his way over to the room housing Peter, he is surprised to see the little boy tucked away in a corner on the ceiling.

“Child. You will be coming with me.” the words hadn’t even fully left the man’s mouth when Peter began descending from his ceiling corner. The pair begin walking through the quiet carnage of the compound, and for the first time in 12 years, he sees the sun. It was blinding at first, much too bright for someone who had only seen the sun in pictures as his imagination. He wasn’t able to bask in the glow of the sun for long as he was quickly brought into a car, another thing he had never seen in person before. Peter was experiencing a lot of firsts. His first look at the sun, which was blindingly bright, his first ride in a car which smelt of oil and leather, his first look at everything really.

When they arrived at the base of the League of Assassins he felt something in the back of his head vibrating at a low hum, a feeling that he couldn’t quite place. Ra’s takes him to the training hall, explaining that he will spend most of his time there when he is not resting, studying, or eating, which had Peter wondering if his schedule with the scientists was in preparation for his transfer here. This strange buzzing in his head only intensified the closer to the building they got, and so too did the sound of metal striking metal. The doors to the hall opened and that strange buzz started pounding at his head causing him to close his eyes. Then, all too suddenly, the buzzing stopped, and Peter opened his eyes to find that there was a dagger, now resting in the palms of his hands, inches away from his chest. Ra's gently grabs the dagger from Peter's now trembling hands and with an elegant flick of his wrist, sends it flying into the chest of the one that threw it. they left the hall shortly after to show Peter the rest of what he now dubs his newest prison. Peter isn't quite sure who Ra's Al Ghul is, but he knows for certain that no one else he's seen has dared look him in the eyes except for a woman who bares some similarities to Ra's and later finds out that her name Is Talia, and that she is his daughter.

"Peter. you will begin your training in the morning, for now, Talia will take you to your room. I expect great things from you Peter." And with that, Ra's walks away, leaving him with Talia, who simply smiles at him before taking him to his room.
