Chapter Text

Jay was having an amazing day. He and Kai had been bickering all day. Pranking each other, fighting each other. And Jay had gotten (what seemed to be) the last laugh.

After a particularly good water bucket prank, (Jay had set up a water bucket on the top of the door and lured Kai to open the door and get drenched. Kai tried to chase Jay but choked a bit on the water and got too embarrassed, swearing and threatening Jay under his breath as he went to go take a shower.) Jay had been hungry for a good sandwich.

“Butter, lettuce, tomatoes, ham—“ Jay listed off aloud like an idiot, leaving the ingredients out with a sheer lack of intent on cleaning it up. Zane would do it. Zane always did it! He placed the final piece of buttered bread on top, grinning as he cut it into triangles. (the only right way to eat a sandwich Jay insisted).

“Finally! First master I really am hungry..I haven’t eaten all day!” Jay mumbled to himself, walking to the living room and kicking his legs up on the coffee table as he set his plate down on his lap. He grabbed the first triangle, and held it up to his mouth, preparing for the best bite of the day. “Ahhhhhh!—“

Yoink!”

Jay bit down on air.

“What—“ Jay let out a confused noise, opening his eyes to find—

“Too slow bluebird!” Kai held the triangle in his hand, holding it up like a trophy. He looked freshly washed, dressed in a tanktop and shorts, hair slightly damp from the shower. “Cmon, bluebird! Come get it if you really want it!” He held it out, pulling it back quickly when Jay reached for it, snickering like it was the best prank he’d ever pulled.

“Kai—you fucking asshole! Gimme back my sandwich!!” Jay set the plate down, completely forgetting that he literally had another half.

(Did we mention he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed when it came to logic? Tech, yes. Logic? No.)

“If you can catch me you can get it!” Kai called out as he took off running.

That had started the wild goose chase. Through the hall, down the training room, across the kitchen—passed the bathroom.

“Get back here you stupid bitch!!”

“Not in a million years lightning boy!!”

Kai seemed very confident, until—he finally hit a wall.

That wall was Cole.

Cole had been walking down the hallway of the bedrooms, yawning and scratching his ass as he had clearly just woken up from what looked like hibernation. Unfortunately, right as he turned a corner—

BAM!!

Kai met the boulder, face buried in cole’s chest for a moment before he recoiled and bounced into Jay—who immediately let out an ‘ah-ha!!’, before promptly not being able to hold Kai’s weight, and falling to the ground with him. Cole raised a brow, wincing as he watched the two descend into a catfight. Jay didn’t seem to realise the sandwich triangle was already sprawled on the floor, completely gone—no chance of survival. All he seemed to care about was killing the fire ninja.

“You guys are weird…it’s too early for this…” Cole said, very late into the afternoon. He stepped over the now wrestling duo and headed for the kitchen.

The two fully grown men ignored him to continue biting and scratching at each other.

“This is your fault blue boy!” Kai growled, slamming Jay into the floor.

“How is this my fault!?” Jay protested, pushing against Kai’s chest as Kai tried to pin him harder to the ground. Kai’s hands pinned Jay’s wrists to the floorboards. Jay headbutted Kai and Kai cried out, letting go of jay’s hands to rub his head. Jay cackled and flipped their positions, straddling Kai’s hips as he pinned Kai’s wrists above his head with one hand, the other gripping Kai’s waist to keep him from bucking Jay off.

“You’re the one who put the water bucket there and I got soaked!” Kai growled, trying to bite Jay, jaw reaching up as if he were a dog.

“Oh, yeah—I guess I did start it, haha!” Jay chuckled, before yelping as kai’s fighting increased tenfold from beneath him, almost like he were pinning down a wild animal.

Amidst the struggle, Jay’s eyes locked onto Kai’s damp hair. He looked at Kai’s unnoticing expression, and grinned.

“Well, how about this, fire boy!” He called out as he reached around Kai’s head.

“Jay—wha—?” Jay ignored Kai’s genuine confusion, gripped his hair, and yanked as hard as he could.

Kai’s expression flipped like a switch.

“Aaahhhhnn~!” Kai moaned suddenly, eyes rolling back as he bit his lip to subconsciously try to cover up the whine. Jay’s eyes went wide as Kai looked like he just came in his pants like a teenager. Kai bucked his hips against Jay’s as he struggled in Jay’s grip, one hand reaching down to grab Jay’s wrist but like he couldn’t tell if he was supposed to pull Jay’s hand away or make it go further into his hair. Kai finally seemed to realise what he’d done after Jay went fully frozen.

Jay and Kai stared at each other in horror.

“Did you just—“

Kai quickly swatted Jay’s hand away violently and suddenly pushed Jay off of him completely, standing up. “Hey—wait!!” Kai ignored him, stepping on Jay as he fled to his room. “ACK—!” Jay gasped, writhing for a moment as he stood up, running after him, promptly getting hit in the face with the door, locking with a definitive
