“Theo, come on we’ve got to get you ready”, you said, trying to sound stern, but it was simply impossible to not smile at your son. Unfortunately for you and Kurt’s parenting, your son had developed your husband's teleporting mutation, and after having discovered it a few months ago, he was slowly learning to control it and using it to his advantage. Right now, you and Kurt were trying to get Theo dressed and ready for when Rogue came to pick him up to babysit for the night with Remy. As chaotic as the two of them were, you and Kurt would trust them with your life, and consequently, with your son for the night.
The only issue was that Theo was now using his mutation to run away from you and Kurt as you tried to get him dressed, but the truth was you couldn’t even be mad. Theo was a really good kid, and he wasn’t trying to escape from your grasp to be annoying. You guessed it was on you for laughing too, but everytime Theo would show up in another part of your small apartment he’d giggle giddily. After almost five minutes of this, Kurt finally managed to grab him from his sides, pressing him tightly against his chest.
“That’s enough for today, Spatz”, Kurt laughed, gently ruffling Theo’s thin hair. With Kurt holding your son against him, you stopped to admire just for a second how similar they looked. Theo’s skin was blue like his fathers, only slightly lighter in colour, and without the fuzz that covered Kurt’s own skin. His ears were slightly pointed, and his eyes were that same golden colour as Kurt’s, but his pupils resembled yours more. His hair, still soft and thin like all toddler’s, was dark blue with the occasional brown highlight. And he, of course, ported the same tail as Kurt.
“What are you looking at me like that for, liebling?”, Kurt asked with a smile, showing off his sharp canines. “No reason”, you smiled warmly. “Just thinking about how lucky I am to have such a beautiful family”. You walked over to where Kurt was standing in the living room, kissing his cheek before kissing the top of Theo’s head, to which he cooed and reached out for you. Maneuvering to keep him supported, Kurt gently passed Theo to you, before gently placing a hand on your shoulder and rubbing it over your T-shirt.
“Let’s get you dressed for auntie Marie? Are you excited?”, you spoke to Theo, laughing as his eyes lit up at the mention of Rogue. You couldn’t even begin to imagine how much she and Remy must spoil him for your toddler to look so excited to spend the night at their place. “I’ll get him dressed and you can get the bag ready?”, you asked your husband. Kurt nodded, and you kissed him briefly before going off to the nursery. When you were younger, your parents hadn't shown that much affection to each other, and that had only diminished the older you’d gotten, so when you found out you were pregnant with Theo the first thing you’d promised yourself was that you’d make sure your kid would grow up with affection between his parents.
Your apartment wasn’t particularly big, but it was cozy and yours. Kurt’s hadn’t really had a home when he’d grown up, and your own childhood home had been strict and kind of bland in decoration. So when you moved out of the mansion together after getting married, you’d made the space your own, with warm lights, comfortable furniture, posters and paintings that you liked, soft blankets everywhere and baby proofed everything (the last two additions had come to fruition only in the last year).
After almost an hour, Rogue rang your doorbell, and by some miracle, Theo was dressed and ready, bag packed by the door. It was Kurt who opened the door to Rogue, and you couldn’t help but laugh when you saw her practically ignore him and go straight for Theo. “There’s my pumpkin!”, she cried out with her thick southern accent as she went to take Theo from Kurt’s arm. Your son was about as shy as his father, so not shy at all. He immediately started babbling excitedly and reaching his hands out to grasp Rogue’s shirt. “Hey Rogue”, you greeted her with a warm smile to which she struggled to wave back with Theo clinging onto her.
“Hey sugar! Don’t you worry, Remy and I will keep this little guy real happy”, she said as you gently booped Theo’s nose to which he gurgled happily. “You two have a nice dinner out and a good rest of the night”, she said with a wink, grabbing the bag from under the coat rack. Kurt rolled his eyes at the comment, and then opened his mouth to speak but Rogue interrupted him.
“No screens, dinner at seven thirty, bed at nine, his pacifier is in the inner pocket of the bag. I got this, it isn't our first rodeo”, she stated. Kurt shut his mouth before grinning. “Theo’s lucky to have you two”. “Oh, he knows, didn’t you see how he lit up when he saw me!”Rogue grinned back. “But seriously, enjoy your night off, you two”. She then turned to look at you. “Kurt better take you to a nice place for dinner, sugar, or else he’ll have to have a talk with me”. You laughed as you answered with a wide smile, “I’ll let you know”.
After you and Kurt both kissed Theo goodbye and after a final wave from Rogue, she was gone and the two of you were left alone for the first time in almost a month. The silence in the apartment was strange, but welcome, as much as you adored your bundle of energy. Kurt came up to you, hands landing on your waist as he leaned down to whisper in your ear. “Alone at last, Schatz”, he said, leaning down to kiss you slowly. You allowed yourself to kiss him back for a minute before you pushed him away with your palms on his chest.
“As much as I’d like to continue, we do have a dinner reservation in an hour, and we both have to get ready”, you said as your hands slid up his chest to rest on his shoulders. “We shall continue this later then, liebling”, Kurt smiled slyly before making his way to the bathroom. You watched him go for a minute before moving to the bedroom to put on your dress.
It had been a while since you’d had the chance to dress up, so you took full advantage of the opportunity. You put on your nicest dress, a long silk one that highlighted every curve in just the right way, before you put on some makeup, taking your time, getting on your favorite earrings and finishing off with a nice bracelet. It took you longer to get ready than you’d thought, which led you to monopolize the bedroom, but it was fine, because Kurt had (for some reason) decided to leave all his things in the bathroom. “It’ll enhance the effect”, he’d said that morning. You had absolutely no idea how exactly that would happen, but oh well, through the years you’d learnt it was best to leave Kurt and his ideas alone sometimes.
Finally, you left your bedroom with your heels in your hand, set them down by the door, walked into the living room and suddenly you understood what Kurt had meant. For the past year, you and Kurt had been juggling the X-men and parenting, succeeding only by some crazy miracle. Whenever Theo would be gone for the night, the two of you would only have the energy to cook dinner (okay, who were you kidding, you were ordering in most of those nights), watching a movie, and sometimes not even making it to the bedroom before falling asleep.
Tonight was the first time since Theo was born when you were going out to a nice place for dinner, and boy did Kurt look good. Kurt was attractive to you no matter what, whether he was wearing his X-men suit or baggy sweatpants and one of his old T-shirts from the Münich circus. But you couldn’t really complain about his looks when Kurt dressed up. He was leaning against the kitchen table when you walked in, checking his phone (probably the news, like he did every night), but looked up immediately when you walked in. He was wearing dark blue dress trousers, only a few shades lighter than his own indigo skin tone, and a crisp button down shirt, which outlined his strong shoulders. His hair, soft curls usually messy, was styled nicely, and his face was shaved smooth.
You allowed yourself to just stare at him for a second, just taking him in.. You didn’t really feel guilty about it because firstly he was your husband so hell, you had the right, and second, because Kurt seemed to be staring at you too, mouth slightly agape. And it felt pretty good to be admired by your husband.
“You look stunning, Schatz”, Kurt breathed out as he walked over to you, placing both his hands on your waist, and you in turn laced your fingers behind his neck out of habit. “You clean up pretty well too, Nightcrawler”, you said with a slightly teasing tone, pulling a grin from Kurt before he leaned down to kiss you. This time however, you stopped him after just a chaste kiss. “We’re already late for the reservation”, you reminded him, to which Kurt sighed. “I do not know how I will wait until after dinner for you, because it seems that right now I’m hungry for something else”. When you’d first started dating, that statement would have left you a blushing puddle on the floor in front of him, but at this point in time you were used to Kurt’s shameless flirting. So, you responded with a small slap to the back of his head, to which Kurt just grinned wider, making you roll your eyes.
“Okay, now we really have to go”, you said as you pulled away and walked over to the door to put on your heels. Kurt followed you to the entrance, putting on his own shoes. You were about to reach for your coat when Kurt, ever the gentleman, got to it first, and helped you put it on, guiding your arms into the sleeves. “Thank you, darling”, you said with a warm smile, turning around to smooth down his own jacket and fix his collar that had gone slightly askew, before the two of you finally made it out the door.
The rest of the evening went perfectly. You convinced Kurt to lend you the aux for the ride to the restaurant (it didn’t really take much convincing), and the dinner itself was better than you could have imagined. The food was amazing (you had to thank Ororo for the recommendation), and conversation with Kurt flowed easily like it always did. One of your favourite things about him was that you could switch between deep conversation to laughing about stupid things within minutes. You felt like you were on your first date again, and the feeling made you feel warm inside. The two of you couldn’t keep your eyes off each other, hands somehow meeting across the table every couple of minutes. That was something you couldn’t help but reminisce about too. When you were younger, the first few times you’d held hands were a bit awkward, considering your differences in physiognomy. But after so many years, your hands seemed to fit naturally into his.
As you drove back home, Kurt’s hand was on your thigh the entire time as he drove, the tension palpable in the car, tension that snapped the moment the door to your apartment was closed. His lips made yours the moment you got your heels off, and this time you had no reason to push him away, you melted into him, and it didn’t take long for both of your clothes to be strewn in your apartment making a trail towards the bedroom, where you both gave into pure pleasure for the first time in a very long time. It was particularly nice since the two of you had the house to yourselves, so you didn’t have to stay quiet to not wake up Theo, and you had all the time in the world to focus on each other's pleasure. The two of you hadn’t had sex in a pretty long time, and you both couldn’t help but laugh at how little you lasted, but again, you had all the time in the world, or at least that what it felt like, so you allowed yourself to alternate before holding each other, laughing, and having sex until late at night.
It was long past midnight when the two of you decided to call it a night, and collapsed onto bed panting softly, exhausted to your very bones but buzzing with pleasure and satisfaction. After catching your breath, the two of you lay side by side for a minute, still not holding each other as you allowed yourself to cool down, before you turned to look at Kurt and let out a small tired laugh. “I don’t think I can be bothered to get up and clean anything right now”. Kurt let out a breathless laugh in answer and nodded. “We can deal with that tomorrow”. Another minute later, you spoke up again.
“I don’t want to sleep on the wet spot”. Kurt hummed in agreement. “Come over to my side”. With some difficulty due to your stiff limbs, so shifted over to lie down by Kurt’s side, resting your head on his chest, which allowed Kurt to tuck your head under his chin and allowed you to gently trail over the short fuzz of his skin. Bringing your hand up to splay across his chest, you relished in the sound of his heartbeat beneath your ear and the steady rise and fall of his chest with his slow breathing which you could feel with your hand.
“I love you, liebling”, Kurt muttered against your hair, and you pressed a kiss to his chest in response. “I love you, darling”. Another low hum left Kurt which you could feel against your cheek. The two of you just lay there for some time, before you spoke up quietly. “I think I might fall asleep soon”. “I tired you out did I?”. You rolled your eyes, but your head was so fuzzy with impending sleep that you couldn’t bother answering, and that gave Kurt a proper notion of how tired you were, since you were never one to stay quiet. And so, instead of saying anythin else, he began to trail his fingers up and down your bare back, relishing in the way you relaxed. IT only took you another minute until you were completely lulled to sleep by Kurt’s gentle touch and the warmth of his body beside yours.
The next morning was about as soft and warm as the previous night. It was a nice feeling to wake up on your own instead of an alarm or Theo crying. You and Kurt got to laze around in bed for a while, just enjoying each other's bare bodies differently from last night, no longer sexual, just admiringly, as well as enjoying the warmth of the sun shining down onto the bed. After a while, at your own time, you got up to make breakfast, Kurt making pancakes as a treat while you handled the coffee. You ate with all the calm in the world, since Rogue would only be bringing back Theo at around lunch time, which now that you thought about it, wasn’t that far away, you’d woke up really late after last night. You then changed the sheets quickly, made lunch together (mostly for Theo, you’d eat later on) and then went to sit on the couch for a short while until Theo came back home.
You got a little less than an hour of watching a new documentary Kurt had been waiting for the perfect time to watch before your doorbell rang. Despite how peaceful it was and what a nice night you’d had, the house did feel pretty quiet without your son, and you were both excited for him to come back. You stood up to open the door for Rogue as Kurt turned off the TV, and you were pleasantly surprised to find that Gambit was there too, holding Theo himself. “Hey you!”, you grinned as you went to hug both of them, starting with Rogue and then gently hugging Gambit. “Hey, stranger!”Gambit hugged you back with one arm, the other still holding Theo.
“How was your night out you two?”, Rogue asked excitedly to both you and Kurt who was coming up behind you. “It was pretty great”, Kurt answered, before reaching out for Theo. “Thank you for keeping him for the night”.
“Oh we love this guy, we love babysitting him”, Gambit answered, carefully handing Theo over to Kurt as your son happily reached out with his little hands to his father. You pressed a soft kiss to Theo’s head before saying to both Gambit and Rogue. “We know, but still, thank you”. Rogue took you in for a moment before grinning with a teasing hint in her eyes. “Don’t you two lovebirds look relaxed! Good for you, sugar!”. This time you did blush at her innuendo, before rolling your eyes and laughing. “And that’s your queue to go”. Rogue laughed back as Gambit set the bag down under the coat rack.
After everyone had said goodbye and Rogue and Gambit began to make their way down the stairs in your apartment complex, Kurt shut the door and the three of you walked into your home. However, you stayed back only for a minute as you watched Kurt bounce Theo up and down as he pretended to answer seriously to his excited babbling. “Uncle Remy did what?”, he said, pretending to sound shocked, which made Theo break out in a fit of gurgling giggles. With a warm smile on your face, you finally followed them, thankful that despite the hardships that life had thrown at you, you and Kurt had managed to form a family and find a life where you could be joyful and free.
