Chapter Text
The thing about being spider-man, is that you are aware of every little thing around you, every movement, every sound, every last little thing, and especially of keeping his secret identity a secret.
But Peter? He's the most unaware human being there is, he doesn't notice when his phone screen cracks to the point that he can barely write on it (darn untied shoe laces)
or when he forgets his backpack in the wrong place while out patrolling, and not being able to find it after, only to have to beg May for a new one with some lame excuse for why he lost the one he had,
or when he's out of money right before having to catch the bus, leaving him having to walk home,
And of course, to add to all of that, he doesn't have an umbrella when it starts raining, while he's walking home, with no money, no backpack, and a cracked phone screen making it hard to call anyone to come pick him up.
Right now Peter is running towards aunt May's house. His new iron-man backpack cradled against his chest as to shield it from the rain pelting against his back, trying to keep his text books and the dreaded field trip permission slip he'd gotten right as school ended, from getting soaked by the downpour.
Getting to the apartment building, Peter is soaked, his clothes and the front of his backpack dripping water. He quickly opens up his backpack to check on his school books, and of course, the permission slip. Peter isn’t looking forward to handing over the permission slip to his aunt, especially not knowing May will most likely laugh at the irony.
----------
Mr.Harrington clapped his hands together after about 5 minutes of trying to get the class to quiet down verbally. Peter’s curiosity was caught by the dull yellow slips of paper in Mr.Harrington’s hand as the man finally spoke up as most of the students had quieted down
“Alright class, as you all know there is only two more months of the school year left, and having gathered enough money for this years field trip thanks to that fundraised-“
‘And from Flash’s parents hefty donations’, Peter thought to himself, something Flash would boast about every time the class went anywhere
“- we have enough to go on a more sought after field trip this year”, Mr.Harrington sounded surprisingly excited over it, Peter noted. He was caught off guard as Ned leaned over, whispering to him with that familiar excitement that always manages to get a small smile from Peter,
“Where do you think we’re going?? I know it’ll be totally awesome tho, like last year, well- it was kinda chaotic but still awesome” ned rambled, much to Peter’s amusement
Before the brown haired boy could answer, Mr. Harrington continued, the man having been fiddling with the permission slips,
“We are going on a trip to Stark Industries! Now, i’ll go over some rules for when we go, the trip is on Friday, so the day after tomorrow, now to begin with pleas….” Peter tuned his teachers rambling out, too caught off guard and shocked by the news.
Mid town, going to SI, on a field trip, this has to be a nightmare, or a joke, maybe he’s on a prank show, or any other reason for this to have happened. He can’t go to SI, yes he’s there almost every other day of the week, but that’s the problem!! He’s there literally almost every other day!! Everyone there knows him!! There’s no way he can get around without anyone recognizing him… there has to be a way out of this-
Peter is pulled out of his anxious spiral by a hand landing on his desk, looking up to see Mr.Harrington, looking rather annoyed. Peter gulped, sinking into his seat.
“Mister Parker? we’re you listening at all?” The man sounds annoyed, Peter gets why, staring down at his desk embarrassed.
Mr.Harrington sighs annoyed, he lifts the hand off Peter’s desk to he rubs his nose-bridge, Peter feels a lecture coming, and he was right.
----------
Peter shakes his head to get water out of his hair before entering his home, jiggling the door before getting it open, and getting inside.
May isn’t home yet, there’s a note and money on the kitchen table, he picks it up, holding it up a little to read,
“Hi sweetie!! I have a long shift today, I should be back around- wait.. is that an eight or nine…” Peter questions staring at the squiggle, shakes his head and continues reading, “I left you some money, order some food for yourself, or go pick something up, love you sweetie!!”
Peter smiles at the note, May’s hand writing has always been neat, he can see from how much sloppier it is on the note that she’d been in a hurry to leave whenever it was she did, since she’d been home when he left at 7 am in the morning.
Peter set the permission slip on the counter as he pocketed the money, going to his room for now, not yet hungry, but definitely debating on what to get, pizza? Burgers? Swarm? chicken larb? The options are endless!!
Peter pulls a science put t-shirt from his closet, ‘AH, the element of surprise’, Peter chuckles, glad to have gotten into some warmer clothes after the downpour he went through.
----------
“It’s not funny!!” Peter insisted.
Aunt May had come home around 10 pm, seen the permission slip and the rather sour note Peter had left with it, and promptly burst out laughing, much to Peter’s dismay.
“It isn’t funny!!” Peter insisted again, but he can’t help the small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
May is sat on the sofa, comfortably laid back against the back rest, head leaned back on it as well, arms wrapped around her stomach as she laughs, turning her head to look at Peter while keeping her head laid on the back of the sofa.
“Oh you’re so going!!” Her tone amused, if not delighted. Sitting up she snags a pen and the dull yellow slip off the coffee table, scribbling her signature onto it before practically forcing the slip to Peter’s hands.
The brown haired boy groans, slapping the slip onto the coffee table beside his empty takeout container of larb, pouting and crossing his arms as he slouches back on the sofa. Peter might be acting immature over this, but he’s playing it up for aunt May, seeing her smiling and laughing always makes him feel better, so playing up an immature act a little bit to see her smile is absolute worth it.
