Work Text:
Ochako hadn't meant to tear her uniform jacket on her very first day, but in her defense, it wasn't really made for throwing things in — and she had thrown that ball incredibly hard.
She shrugs it off and throws it onto her desk. She might miss lunch, but that wasn't the worst thing imaginable. The worst thing, in fact, would be Aizawa-sensei's face if he found out that she'd destroyed what was technically school property.
Ochako rummages through her bag and scrunches her nose. Where even is her sewing kit? She thinks she brought it, but with every second that passes, she gets more and more worried.
Cool plastic finally brushes her fingers, and she lets out a sigh of relief as she pulls out the small tin. It's dented and banged up, just a small Thirteen merch lunchbox, but it's her beloved kit and she would probably commit at least three counts of murder before finally being caught if she'd lost it.
Ochako takes out her needle and carefully, carefully, threads through her white string as she ties it off and then starts sewing her sleeve back together. Back, forth, back, forth — the rhythmic motion is familiar, and she finds herself leaning in further with each poke of her needle through the thick fabric.
The classroom door opens, and her head snaps up so quickly that she drops her needle and winces, her hands cradling her neck. "Mic-sensei?" Ochako gasps, trying to cover her sewing materials with her elbows; she only succeeds in looking like a penguin. "W-What are you doing here?"
The blond pro hero just grins, raising a gloved hand to slide his glasses down his nose. With his intense eyes on her, Ochako is worried that she's about to be busted — but then Mic slides them back up and pads closer like a cat that caught the cream. "You sew, little listener? That's so awesome! No need to worry, needles are perfectly fine to have on campus. If anyone tries to confiscate them, let me know."
"Now," he tilts his head, gently moving her elbows to look at her uniform. "What's the problem here? Did your uniform tear?"
Ochako sighs in defeat. "I just- my uniform tore during Heroics. Even though the gym uniforms are better than the regular ones in terms of breathability, mine is…" she lowers her voice a bit, her cheeks coloring bright pink. "…A bit too small. So it tore when I used my quirk and threw something during the tests Aizawa-sensei had us do."
Present Mic just nods, leaning back and placing a hand on his hip, gesturing wildly with the other. "Oh, I totally get it! You're doing great, little listener, so keep doing your own thing… but if you need help in the future, you don't have to repair your uniforms! Recovery Girl has some in her office for students just like ya, and you can even get yourself a new size!"
The brunette student smiles sheepishly, picking her needle back up. "Thanks, Mic-sensei. I promise I'll go to her next time, but… I'm really determined to finish this."
He flashes her a double thumbs-up and then pads back out with a loud goodbye, waving like a child all the way. Once her teacher's finally out of the room, Ochako lets out the breath she hadn't been holding.
She's incredibly relieved to not be in trouble at all, and even if Present Mic can be a bit much at times, she's grateful that it was him who found her.
Ochako shudders at the idea of it being Aizawa-sensei. She respected the man far too much to do anything but die of embarrassment in that scenario.
Picking up the garment once again, she resumes her sewing — and then pauses as she spots a small note on her desk. She picks it up out of curiosity, and a small smile spreads across her lips as she reads it.
You're sew awesome, little listener! Keep up the good work!
Ochako drags her fingers across the doodled smiley face. After a second thought, she folds it up and carefully tucks it into the lid of her sewing tin, before continuing on her work.
If Mic finds himself with a small embroidered flower on the sleeve of his jacket that he accidentally left on her desk the next week, well, he's sure that he doesn't know who did it.
It certainly wouldn't be his favorite crafty brunette girl from 1A.
