Chapter 1: Pilot season I

Chapter Text

The blacksmiths hammer rang through the forge, sparks of tiny fireballs flying through the air every time the metal hit the other metal. To straighten the sword takes lots of dedication and accuracy, and that’s what Nya was good at.

Nya Smith, the oldest daughter of the previous blacksmith. It had been years since the man of the house along with his wife had been seen, the people of the small town Ignacia long since declaring them missing, some of them even considering them dead. To Nya, that didn’t make any difference. Her parents were gone regardless, and with that came responsibility. Both to the business of the blacksmiths forge, and with the care of another person.

Kai Smith, Nya’s younger brother. Currently 14 years old, and he’s almost no different like any other teenager, being all energetic and getting in trouble when it could have been prevented. But like it was mentioned before, ALMOST like any other teenager. While other siblings in Ignacia didn’t get along with their siblings much and fought all the time, Kai was thankfully different from them. He respected his sister, listened to her advices and teachings, rather than to act arrogant towards her.

Even right now, where boys his age usually play football outside or bother neighbours with pranks, Kai was carrying baskets of metal around the shop, helping Nya in the business.

"Nya, why don’t you take a break? You’ve been working on that sword since early morning now, why don’t you let me take over?"

Steam filled the air as soon as Nya lowered the hot iron into the water, Kai having to step back a little bit as the burning air attacked his face while his sister seemed to not be bothered by it. Which was weird, now that he thinks about it... but no matter.

"So that you can go on and blister your whole hand and then complain about the pain for the whole week? No thank you my dear, I rather not. Maybe when you're more careful, then you can try again."

She pulled the sword out of the water bin, her expectations meeting doom as soon as she saw the end results. Oh you've got to be kidding me...

"Tch, like you're one to talk, Nya. Look! Your impatience and lack of accuracy leads to...whatever this is you're holding in your hands! Be patient! You always tell me that, but it's quite hypocritical of you if you don't do the same..." Kai rolled his eyes playfully, putting down the basket onto the ground with a grunt.

Nya could only sigh in defeat, putting the failed attempt of a weapon down. Honestly...usually she's good at this, and her reviews say that too! But lately something has been bugging her, like the atmosphere wasn't right. Like there was something in the air that just....seemed wrong.

Running a hand through her sweaty bangs, she just let out another breath: "Well, I might as well just-"

"Hmm...your metal is loud and heavy, useful to slow one down. Useless in the art of stealth. All tools for a samurai, but nothing for a ninja."

Out of the sudden, an old man appeared in the doorsteps of their shop. He had a long beard that went down to his waist, a conical hat hiding his face before he eventually showed himself fully. His appearance reminded Nya of the ninja portraits she used to see somewhere before, but...come on, ninja? In Ignacia?

"You won't be finding any ninja in these lands, sorry about that. But this shop isn't a place to label your insults, so please either buy something, or get going."

Like she had time to entertain people. She had to work, and work gives money. Money is needed for essential life supplies such as food and water. Hm...she also noticed Kai's hair gel is seemingly to run out soon...gotta take that into Account.

The old man simply smiled at that, shrugging his shoulders as he turned around.

"A shame really, and here I thought I've seen something special..."

From the corner of her eyes, Nya noticed Kai making a move, most likely to come up to the senior and argue with him on "How dare you insult my sister and our shop!", so before that could happen, Nya quickly pulled him back by his neck collar gently.

"Drop it. He might be...you know, a little crazy in the head. You know how lonely grandpa's work. Don't you?" She whispered.

Kai seemed adamant to give the man a piece of his mind, but then slumped in defeat against his sister. There was no point in arguing with her, especially now that the man disappeared out of thin air during their 10 second interaction.

Meanwhile out in the fields of Ignacia, people have started to look up from where they were working. Looking up to the sky, they noticed how sudden darkness and thick clouds began to hide the blue sky beneath, sudden cold air making their skin shiver from head to toe.

Then not even a few seconds later, some trucks pulled up in different sizes, but quite weird looking. On the biggest one of them was a skull at the front of the vehicle, the other motorcyclist driving up to guard the main car by the sides.

"Let me go first! Pleaseeee let me go first!" One of the skulkin was heard pleading from afar. "I'm dying to go down there!"

Nuckal, a general of the Skulkin army. And with him came Kruncha.

"You nitwit! You're dead already! Try to control yourself infront of master Samukai!"

The so called Kruncha yelled at the exact moment. If he could roll his eyes like a human does, he would most definitely do that towards Nuckal at the moment. And right in between these two was none other than their master, Samukai.

He wasn't really listening to their bickering, too busy looking out and ahead to where the blacksmith forge was standing in all its previous glory. So this is where the map is supposed to be? The shop isn't that big even from afar, so this shouldn't take long. If everyone ambushed from every side...

Samukai's planning was interrupted by the sound of Kruncha speaking to him, and he didn't even need to know the full context to figure out what the general wanted to know from him.

"Sorry boys, this one is mine. Just remember what we are after and find the forsaken map! ATTACK!"

And down did they drive the hill, the rattling sounds of the engines filling the air while more smoke came out of their machines.

Nya had long since known something was up the moment the dark clouds appeared in the sky, already wearing the samurai armor with a katana in her hand.

Once again, she saw Kai try to take a Katana for himself, but she just shook her head while pushing him further into the shop.

"But Nya-!"

"No buts Kai. I don't know who or what these things are, but you better stay in here!"

Nya's attention then was drawn to the skeletons approaching her, holding weird styled weapons consistent of bones and...whatever else they use from their left over bodies. Not like she's interested to know the details.

One attacked with its sword aiming for her head, but she was able to dodge it easily. Not even a moment later multiple of these things tried to make damage from left and right, so Nya jumped up into the air and then landed on the skeletons heads. Ha! Easy enough! These things are actually quite-

"KAI! I TOLD YOU TO STAY BACK!"

The triumph in Nya's demeanor changed drastically to worry, seeing as Kai fought off multiple Skeletons on his own with a bamboo stick as his weapon. She knows that he's not exactly weak, but at the same time...she's supposed to be the one to protect him! She can't lose him to some low life zombie walking skeletons!

Kai in the meantime only looked more excited than scared, finding these things hilarious. You'd think you'd see walking skeletons only in comic books! What's next? Walking evil snakes?

"And let you deal with these fuckers alone? No way!"

As the Smith siblings were too occupied fighting off one skulkin after another, the both of them didn't notice the generals Nuckal and Kruncha managing to sneak their way into the blacksmiths shop. Looking around, there was no place where a map could be hidden in, giving the two skulkins big trouble.

Kruncha was more serious than Nuckal, which means that he also got more annoyed quickly. Just like right now, seeing his partner try on different helmets instead of doing what they were told to do.

He punched him, which then turned into a fist fight between the two of them, and the impact they had made to their surroundings resulted to shake their everything, helmets and armor falling to the ground left and right. Even the roof shook a little, the sign of the blacksmiths shop tilting sideways not too long after. Had Kruncha not peeked during their fight towards that thing, he probably wouldn't even notice the map being displayed to its fullest view for them.

"Dingus! Look! The map! Take it you fool!"

Nya in the meantime got into a 1 on 1 against a skeleton with four arms. Their leader most likely, judging by how much more confidence he had in his moves and weapon mastery. Nya got quickly overwhelmed with 4 weapons clashing against her one katana at once, quickly losing her foot guard and falling to the ground. She gritted her teeth, looking left and right to see her sword meters away from herself. She wouldn't make it in time to dodge the knives coming her way, but that was before she heard a loud raspy shout.

"Ninjago!"

A glowing golden wirl that resembled a small tornado appeared out of thin air, attacking Samukai and pushing him away from Nya. Bewildered, Nya looked up from where she was laying, just in time to hear the conversation between the two of these strangers.

"Sensei Wu...your spinjitzu looks quite rusty!"

"Nothing like bone to sharpen its edge, Samukai!"

And now that Nya looked closer, she recognized her savior as the old man from before. So he never actually left the area? And what was that...that...wirl thing?

Scratch that, she has another problem for herself. Being unable to stand up for some goddammit unknown reason! No matter how much she tried to push herself up, the metal she was wearing only made her fall back down. Yes, she can make these things, but she rarely wore them on her own except for measurements!

Sensei Wu and Samukai in the meantime had their battle of eye contact, the air around them tense as they didn't want to lose the other in a blink of an eye. The sounds of Nya struggling to get up caught the skulkins attention, which then wandered off to the wooden water tower on the side of the road. Without thinking any further, he made it look like he aimed his swords at Master Wu, and just as the man dodged to the side to avoid them, the weapons landed onto the barrel in one clean strike.

Nya looked up from some sound she heard, eyes widening the moment she saw the wooden water tower falling towards her direction. Even if she managed to finally stand up or atleast move somehwere, it wouldn't be enough to dodge this enormous barrel. This was it then? She will be crushed to death, and then Kai will be left all alone in this lonely world, and he will be miserable and-

"Ninjago!"

Once again, the old man shouted, and before Nya could blink away her bewilderment, she felt herself being picked up and being swung across the area away from where the tower fell down. Well...not dead then.

Sensei Wu looked over Nya to make sure there were no drastic injuries on her, but that was before his attention got caught by a very familiar name.

"Lord Garmadon says, "Take the boy!"

Samukai had managed to escape the scene and get back to his truck, looking over the battle area and locking his view at their target.
Kai, in the middle of fighting off a skulkin with a sole bamboo stick.

Master Wu was too shocked to hear his long banished brothers name being mentioned, to late to realize what was happening. A skeletons claw activated on the back of the bad guys truck, flying off into the air before snatching Kai in a matter of seconds.

"KAI!"

Horror flooded Nya's mind, eyes wide in terror at the sight of her younger brother flying through the air, his body captured in the claw. No, no no no, this cannot be happening. Anyone but him! Take the grandpa if needed! He can fight for his defence!

Nya moved, but her try was pathetic if anything. Just after one step towards the car, and the motor started immediately, the machine turning around with all its bikers following its lead, disappearing behind the hills. And along with them, her brother.

"No...!" She breathed out harshly. "They took Kai..."

"Like I said, useless."

A bonk with a staff onto her samurai helmet, and Nya's feelings changed from sadness and panic to anger in a split second. How dare he!

"You...! YOU! You could have done something! You could have saved him with your spin...span...spin spun whatever that technique of yours is!"

"Spinjitzu."

"That's not the point!" Nya threw her hands into the air in annoyance, pointing her sword towards the stranger.
"You could have done something! But you did nothing! Nothing at all! Ugh...I'm going to get my brother back, and you can spin-however you want on your own."

Just as she was about to walk off to the direction where the skulkins had disappeared to, the voice of the bearded man, named Wu presumably, called out to her again.

'Where they go, a mortal cannot. That was Samukai, the king of the underworld."

Wow, great. Now Nya knows the name of her brothers kidnapper to the very least.

"And if it's true that he's carrying orders from Lord Garmadon, then things are worse than I thought..."

Lord Garmadon? That figure from stories people use to scare their children to stay home after curfew? But he hasn't been seen or heard about in years, what's he gotta do with all of this?

"Garmadon? Underworld??? I don't know what these things mean sir, but what do we, what does KAI have to do with all of this to get kidnapped?! We have nothing special except...metal!"

Wu only stared at Nya for some time, before sighing, starting a Story.

"Long before time had a name, Ninjago had been created by the first spinjitzu master, using the four elemental weapons of spinjitzu. The scythe of quakes, the nunchucks of lightning, the shurikens of ice and the sword of fire. Weapons so powerful, no one can handle all of their powers at once."

For the next part, the mans face morphed a little bit into a frown.

"When he passed away, his two sons swore to protect them. But the oldest was consumed by darkness and wanted to possess them. A battle between the brothers broke out and the oldest was struck down and banished to the underworld. Peace returned and the younger brother hid the weapons. But knowing his older brother's relentless ambition for power, he placed a guardian to protect them. And for fear of his own demise, a map for an honest man to hide."

His head turned to look at Nya directly. "That honest man was your father."

Well, now THAT definitely got Nya's attention, making her head look up from where she was checking her sword over. Her father? What was so special about a blacksmith this man has seen in, to the point of leaving an important map to his hands? Sure, she remembers her father as kindhearted and someone who was gentle with her, but still...

"The older brother is Lord Garmadon. And I need to find those weapons before he does."

Connecting one dot to another, the Smith raised her eyebrows up in slight surprise, watching as the man walked around with stiffness in his steps.

"YOU are the younger brother, aren't you? You came to our shop looking for the map then? If so, you could have just normally introduced yourself, you know. I'm sure me and Kai would have been happy to-"

"No."

No? What was he on? Nya is trying to apologize for the interaction earlier, and he's acting like he did before again!

"I came here for something greater. You."

For the first time since they have met, Nya could see a smile under all that long beard. Oh man...now she feels bad for thinking bad about him again...she really needs to stop thinking ahead of the situation...

But...her? What's so great about her except for her weapons? If she was great, then Kai wouldn't have been kidnapped in the first place, but here, safe in her arms. Oh how she misses him already...

Getting lost in her thoughts, she almsot missed the rest of the story the man was telling her, managing to keep up in the very last second.

"Since my brother cannot enter this realm, it's obvios he has struck a deal with with Samukai. If he were to get all the weapons, even I would not be able to stop him again....but YOU!"

As his bamboo flew towards Nya's direction, it took all her ounces of strength not to flinch and fall off the stone she was sitting on in the moment. Really, one moment was all serious and emotional, and the next he's terrorizing her again with his damn bamboo stick. Maybe she can break it in half...?

"YOU have the fire inside of you. I will train you to control it, to become a spinjitzu master!"

Still staring at the bamboo stick infront of her face, Nya's face scrunched up to something unimpressed. Yeah sure, let her go ahead and waste her time "training" when she could have been doing some thing else. Like...

"Look, I'm flattered you think of me so...highly, but I have to save my brother first! I don't have time to get involved in your own siblings rivalry or- HEY!"

She wasn't even able to make a few steps away from him before being pinned down onto the ground in one swift motion. And again, THIS DAMN BAMBOO STICK IN HER FACE-

"Clunky mule, you are not even ready to face my spinjitzu! If you want to save your brother, you must learn to control the fire inside of you. Only then will you be able to face Lord Garmadon!"

Gritting her teeth, Nya knew there was no point in arguing with him. Sure, she REALLY wants to see Kai as soon as possible again, but what logic would it be if she just went there unprepared and killed them both at once? And this...fire inside of her...maybe she can find answers about that too.

Kai...please, hold out there.

---------------

Look, when this old man said "training", Nya expected to be shown some actual moves. Both in physical combat and in swordsmanship. But not climbing a literal cliff with no securement whatsoever?!

Her hand reached another part of the stone, feeling her breathing getting ragged to shreds and sweat tickling down her forehead. She doesn't even know how long she has been climbing this damn place, but atleast thinking about Kai motivated her enough to continue. Otherwise, she'd quit on the spot.

The man, now finally being revealed as Sensei Wu, seemed to feel the exact opposite to what she had going on. Climbing and crawling all over the cliffs surface like a tarantula, which creeped Nya out a little bit in the beginning. Does acting like an animal come along with being a spinjitzu master or something...?

Finally, after what seemed like forever, she managed to get to the top. Her chest rose and fell as she tried to gather her shit together, looking up to see where Wu was, only to be met with a sight of STAIRS to the place. You've got to be fucking kidding me-

"Why...why couldn't we just save time and use the stairs?! How long will this training go for anyway? Kai could be tortured right now while I'm climbing rocks for all I know!"

Master Wu only looked at her calmly, speaking with discipline.

"Patience. You will be ready when you are ready, not a second sooner."

Patience? Really? Oh Nya can show him patience! She's literally the most patient person ever! She managed to get through the cliffs already, how hard can the next step be?

Opening the doors to the place, Nya was met with a sight of a big area, a golden dragon statue in the middle of it. The buidling was built around it, multiple doors leading to different rooms. The place seemed peaceful to the very least, but...now that Nya notices it...

"A monastery? You expect me to fight in a place full of peace? Seems...out of place, you know."

The monastery was filled with three main colors. Red, white and black. They fit well with each other, as the colors also reminded Nya about the blacksmiths shop. And with that memory came Kai, making her mood darken again.

Master Wu in the meantime noticed her shift of mood from a few meters away, sighing to himself. If he was being honest, he had thought Kai to be the master of fire, just like his father was. He also reminded Wu a lot about his old dear friend, so he assumed it to be natural. You'd imagine his surprise to see the daughter of his friend changing his way of thinking, especially to the fact Nya was named after the first elemental master of water. Fate has its weird way of surprising people, and these siblings are no different. Nether the less, it didn't take him too long to see the fire burning inside of Nya, her desire to protect what was dear to her and her sense of responsibility. Maybe Kai is the one to inherit "her" powers in the end...

"Not fight, train. In order to master the art of spinjitzu, you must see things the others do not."

Okay...well um...

Looking around one more time, Nya really didn't see anything giving a slight idea to what she could train with. The only thing that could hold some significance is that golden dragon in the middle. But that's not even a fighting puppet, so how is she supposed to train here?!

"Uh..Master, I do not see anything. Maybe you are just the one who-"

A button was clicked, and Nya could feel the earth tremble beneath her feet as her surrounding started to change. First it was the golden dragon statue, and then one after another obstacles started to move up from the ground below. One had wooden puppets, the other had swords sticking out of its wooden block. There were also wooden posts you had to jump over. A full on challenge! A challenge that if completed, Nya can finally go and save Kai! Should be easy enough!

"So I just need to get past those? And then you'll teach me that Spinjitzu move? Is that it?"

Without waiting for an answer, Nya jumped onto a wooden post, gaining her balance and then standing there on one foot in place. This is actually- wait why is it going down...?

She didn't even have time to decipher what was happening before being flung into the air, hitting a pole harshly and slumping down to the ground with a groan. Looking up with what strenght she had left inside her body, she saw Master Wu sitting on the porch, a tea kettle next to him. When did he have the time to get that?

"If you finish the training course before I have my tea, then we will see if you're ready."

Before he finishes his tea? Does he mean like literally or is it another metaphor for something?

"Today you failed. Tomorrow you will try again." He eventually said after one sip of the liquid he was holding. Ah, so he DID mean literally. Wait a minute, she failed? Already?!

"Failed?! But I didn't even start properly! There's still a lot of time until evening, can't we just try this again? Why do I have to wait until tomorrow? Kai could be dead while we're fooling around Master Wu!" Nya exaggerated with a groan. She hates waiting!

"Patience, Nya." Was the only answer she got in return, along with a door being shut down infront of her, hiding the master from her view.

Tsk, patience.

The next few days were spent with training, and most of the time Nya failed it again and again, which made her furious. Sometimes to cool herself off in order not to lash out at everything around her, she goes to a bucket of water and then just dips her head into it fully while screaming. That way, she won't be loud enough to disturb Master Wu, and at the same time could let her anger out in peace.

One time it was a fall from the platform, another time a moving ball threw her out of the course. Then there was the thing on the third day where she just couldn't keep her balance straight to be able to jump over the up-and-down moving posts and fell face first into the stone hard floor. At this point she might aswell get her face rearranged...

But her willpower didn't die at her failures. On the contrary, it made her only more motivated and more focused on her task. If she was being easy going on the first day, then her third day was consistent of being actually attentive to her surroundings. Every movement, every sound and gesture from all around her seemed alive to her now, being able to sense whenever a sword was about to cut her head clean off or when the perfect time to jump was. Master Wu seemed to notice her changes, as he started to speed up his own tea drinking process too.

Currently he was trying to give himself a cup of tea like normally, but as Nya already seemed to be half way through the course, he quickly started putting sugar cubes into his cup. That action was interrupted by a wooden sword flying his way, making the teacup fall onto the ground and spill all its content into a puddle.

As the old man tried to pour himself another cup and get the sugar cubes again, he was met with the sight of Nya sitting on the porch next to him, the bowl in her hands and a smile on her face.

Now, finally, after torturous days spent sweating and getting beaten up by a bunch of machines, now Nya will be able to learn the spinjitzu thing, save her brother, and go home like this never happened!

"Can I learn spinjitzu now? I completed your training course after all, and I don't want to waste any more time than necessary! Kai needs me-"

"Patience, Nya. That's one of your biggest flaws, your impatience. And you already did, your final test will be tomorrow."

He stood up, walking back to where he usually hid himself in the monastery. "A small advice, get some sleep."

And gone was he again. Nya could only groan in her head, too tired to go and scream into a bucket again. She understands that patience is important, she really does. But not in a situation where life or death could be at play! Or is Master Wu so confident about Kai not being killed? Does he know what that Lord Garmadon might be planning? But even if that's the case, why won't he tell her anything? Wouldn't it be better for his own sanity too?

Later that night, no sound could be heard from the mountain where the monastery was placed in. Birds didn't fly here much, so there wasn't even a slight idea of life happening here for the outside world. That is, except for the three new intruders in black ninja gi's.

Nya was currently in her quarters, brushing her teeth while looking at her own image in the mirror. One bruise here, another bruise there...sigh. Here she was, all comfortable and a roof over her head, secured the most someone could ever ask to be. But her brother? What if he's being starved? What if he's being tortured?

"Tch, think I cannot deal with those skeletons? Well get this!"

She made a few moves she learnt from her training, trying to keep her posture up right while jumping around the room. You could imagine her shock seeing a black clothed presence in the next second she turned her back around. Feeling another presence behind her again, she looked over behind her, only to be met with another two of the same clothed people. When did they get here?! There's no way Master Wu didn't notice, right?

"How inappropriate to enter a woman's bedroom, isn't it...?"

She muttered under her breath, and then in one swift motion, put the toothbrush she had in her hand in one of the clothed persons mouth. It was covered with his hood though, but that only made it better.

As the toothbrush got thrown into the air by the guy she attacked it with, Nya used the chance to escape the scene with the wooden planks on the roof. Thank the first spinjitzu master she managed to get her balance in order, or otherwise it would have ended up very embarrassing for her if she were to fall down here.

One of them managed to catch up infront of her, attacking Nya mid air. She dodged it, feeling triumph run through her veins before being blast away by another cloaked figure, breaking the roof of the monastery along with it. She flew though the air, eyes scanning the training grounds below her. They stood still, but if she activated them...

Managing to land on her feet gracefully, Nya quickly pulled out the button with a smaller golden dragon figure on it, quickly pressing it before the intruders could realise what she was up to.

And to her satisfaction, the plan worked. The machines were thankfully silent for the first few seconds they get turned on, so the figures didn't see the obstacles getting in their way in the dark of the night. One was flown away, then the other, and the third person got the glory of Nya's own fists to his face.

Now it was 3 against one again, but that wouldn't scare Nya off. She had fought more skeletons back at the blacksmiths shop than this, so this should be child's play.

"Should be" is the keyword here, as these guys were good in their combat too. They weren't simple thieves or anything, but actual trained...whoever they are.

What Nya did notice though, was that one of them seemed to be less reluctant to attack her than the other two. She wasn't able to see clearly because of the dark, but that person kept staring at her without doing much from time to time. Creepy, to say the least. Was he analyzing her techniques?

One, two, then another and another slap and kick here and there. It could have gone on with blood in the end if Nya really wanted to, but a loud voice interrupted the sparring the four younglings were having.

"STOP!"

Master Wu? Why did he sound so calm about this?

"Yes, sensei."

What now?

The three figures stood back straight up, leaving Nya to finally catch her breath and get up from the ground on her own. Her face was filled with confusion, finally addressing her teacher before she could explode her brain with any more thinking.

"Wait, Master Wu, they're your students too?"
A nod from the man as an answer.
"So this was my final test? Is that it?"

Before her teacher could answer her, a new voice rang through the air. It was the guy to the right side of Nya, and from his build she also recognized him as the one who kept staring at her minutes prior.

"Now wait a minute Master! You never said anything about a fourth! And a girl at that! Its always three! Three blind mice, three musketeers, three-"

"WHAT he's trying to say, Sensei Wu, is that the three of us had trained together time before her. We are solid as one."

The guy to the left side of Nya suddenly spoke up, interrupting the staring guy. His voice seemed mature, to say the least. Atleast in comparison to the other one...but, pfff, solid? Yeah right, almost being beaten by her alone was definitely "solid", but Nya wouldn't tell them that, she's better than this.

A calmer voice than the two before spoke up, and that was the guy furthest from Nya. He carried some kind of carefulness in his demeanor, which made Nya give a feeling that she might get along with him the most. But no, she's not here to make friends. She's here to train, save Kai, and be done with it. She doesn't need distractions in her way.

"Master, what's the meaning of this?"

Hm, now THAT is something Nya would like to know too. He didn't even MENTION any other students of his!

"Each of you had been chosen. Each of you with elemental properties. But first, Ninjago!"

Nya and the other three didn't have time to decipher what was happening before being blast on with their masters Spinjitzu move. Out of nowhere, Nya could feel the loss of her pyjama's change into something else, an...an actual ninja gi? And in red???

"Woah!"

Looking at the others, she noticed them having the same ninja gi as her, but in different colors and symbols. Well, apart from the guy to her left side though, he still stayed black. Meanwhile the guy who stared at her was blue now and the calm voice wore a white one.

"Woah! Look what colour I am!"

"Wait, I'm still black?"

Sensei Wu ignored those comments, rather directing his bamboo pole towards Nya first.

"Nya, master of fire. It burns bright within you."

Nya could feel the curious gaze of the guys around her, but she didn't pay them no mind, rather standing straight and confident. Master of fire, huh? No wonder fire never really affected her while forging weapons...

"Jay is blue, master of lightning."

Ah, so the guy who kept staring at her instead of attacking her is named Jay. Good to know, probably. And with what seemed next, he seemed to be very talkative too...

"Hah! That's not all I'm a master of! I do a little inventing, I dabbed in model building, touch of cooking, little poetry...hey, Nya, what do you think? Want to hear some of my poetry? I'm pretty sure women like those! And you're a...woman!"

Ah, so that's the reason. Got it.

"I'll pass for now..."

She waved her hand as to dismiss the idea, hearing a snicker from the other side.

"Dont mind him, he's more of a mouth of lightning anyway. If his poetry is anything, then it's nothing impressive."

"Hey-!"

"Black ninja is Cole."

Before the two of them could start bickering, Sensei Wu was quick to jump into the middle to stop the meddling.

"Solid as rock, master of earth."

The now so called "Cole" made some flexing moves with his scythe, which made Nya frown a little bit in second hand embarrassment. Is this supposed to impress anyone? If anything, it looks idiotic.

Nya then watched as Cole took off his hood, finally revealing his face. He had either very dark brown or black short hair, thick eyebrows and a good built face. As Cole then kept poking his scythe to her direction, Nya wondered if this was a part of Sensei Wu's training, poking people with whatever you have in your hands. A bamboo most preferably.

"Nice to meet you kid. I've got your back, and for the record, there's nothing in this world I'm afraid of."

"Except for dragons!"

The white clothed guy spoke up, making Nya snicker a tiny bit to herself. Cole on the other hand just rolled his eyes, a sigh escaping his lips.

"Dragons aren't from this world, Zane. I said "in" this world..."

And another name to the list for Nya. So in conclusion, her supposedly new teammates are Jay, Cole and Zane. She just prays that atleast not all of them are immature or as exhausting to deal with like Kai is. Damn it, now she's mad again...

"And white ninja is Zane. Master of ice, and seer with sixth sense."

If Nya thought Cole took his introduction too seriously, then Zane was another level. Bowing, flexing his shurikens, spinning around, you name it. You'd think these guys watched action movies and took 99% of inspiration from them. Surely in the middle of a battle field these things wont be necessary or even accessible?

"Well I sense too much comic books from all three of you..." Nya muttered under her breath, usually loud enough so that no one could hear her, but in god knows what power Zane holds, he was the only one able to hear it. Pulling his hood down, a face fitting to his calm presence welcomed the world. His hair was platinum blonde and went straight up, something Kai would laugh at as a kid when reading magazines.

"You too have the gift?" He asked, his curious gaze wandering off to Nya. But before she could say anything in return, Jay was quick to jump in with an exaggerated sigh, being also the final one to pull his hood down.

He was...handsome, Nya thought. A little bit more than an average face maybe, with reddish brown hair. His hair color was complicated to describe though, as from one lighting source it looked ginger, and from the other completely brown. Interesting...but anyway.

"Whatever you heard, it was a joke, Zane. Remember what we used to talk about? Your sense of humor?"

Zane blinked at Jay for a few seconds, before smiling himself. Now that Nya looks closely at him, despite being a calm presence, Zane also seemed...weird. Not in a bad sense, but just...different. She couldn't put her hands around it...

"Yes, it was a joke. Ha-ha."

"Pay attention!"

The teenagers introductions were stopped by the stern voice of master Wu, making all four of the newly formed ninja stand straight again, looking over to where their teacher was speaking.

"You four are the chosen ones, the ones who will protect the four weapons of spinjitzu from Lord Garmadon."

"BUT WHAT ABOUT MY BROTHER?!"

Nya yelled out in anger, her impatience soon about to burst. Her brother was kidnapped to God knows where, and she’s here wasting her time getting to know people! As if the training wasn’t enough!

Her train of thoughts were interrupted before she could even get them out by the guy to her right side. Jay, was it?

"Wait, we’re saving a guy? Isn’t it usually a girl that needs saving?"

Great. Just what Nya needed right now, another brain-dead thought.

"Watch it."

"Woah woah I’m just saying! Its always a ‘damsel in distress’, not ‘dude in distress’!’

"Jay..."

Even Cole seemed to get annoyed at the guy’s antics, rolling his eyes and pinching his nose bridge in exaggeration. He looked over to Nya, trying to make an apologetic looking face. Either this guy was the most mature from the three, or he just hated Jay's special antics and he's still the same as him. Who knows.

"Nya, do not worry. When we find the golden weapons, we will find your brother."

Nya could only look down onto the ground in defeat, trying to keep her temper in check. First it was training she wasted her time on, and now this? Searching for weapons? How long will THAT take? Days? Weeks? Months? How long until she can hold her brother securely in her arms again? Like he always was, all her life...

"It is time, we must go to the first weapon." Wu then continued on, being quickly spoken over again by Cole in the next given moment.

"Master Wu! You said you were going to teach us spinjitzu!"

Huh? So they also didn't learn it yet despite being longer here than she was? What's so specially needed for this "Spinjitzu" that it would take this long to master for them?

"Spinjitzu is inside each and every one of you, but it will be unlocked only when the key is ready to be found. Come! My feet are tired. We will take the horse carriage."

It was interesting how a moment of wisdom and lecture could turn into a immediate command in the span of 20 seconds. But Nya didn't mind that, her mind too occupied with the thoughts of her brother again to take any notice about her surroundings. The way Jay and Cole were complaining about how and where to find the supposed key, from one statement to immediate bickering.

"You both can complain all you want, but if this means finding my brother, I'm in."
