Chapter 1: Deja vu I've just been in this place before

Chapter Text

Taylor Hebert looked around the ruined cabin, confused. This was the cabin she had gone to sleep in, except it was just wrong. Looking around, Taylor noticed the cabin was destroyed, bunk beds floating in midair as if launched by an explosion prior to being frozen in time, walls shattered, revealing an endless void, and, looking up, the ceiling torn away as if a giant child had lifted the roof from a dollhouse.

High above the destroyed cabin in the sky was a giant beetle like creature with a tremendous crown on it’s head and it was wearing a business suit properly proportioned for it’s disturbing body, there was also a beam of light stretching down from the beetle creature that seemed to be pointing at her, though she couldn’t see where the line terminated it’s general trajectory was right for her forehead like a sniper’s laser sight.

Taylor walked to the door and opened it, revealing the porch outside. She saw a swing bench, which she sat down on, wondering what was happening to her. Suddenly, she heard a TWANG sound as if a string was snapped, and the light beaming down from the space beetle vanished.

“Sorry about that, but bug control isn’t that great anyway,” a deep voice spoke from her left on the bench beside her.

Taylor jumped and twisted to see a being that looked like a field of stars in space, two bright stars for eyes and a trio of horns erupting from its head.

“Who, no, what are you?” Taylor asked, feeling far calmer than she felt she should be.

“I’m a god,” the being spoke once more, its deep voice sounding ridiculously familiar.

“God?” Taylor asked, sounding slightly nonplussed.

“No, no, no, a god little g,” the being spoke before looking down at itself. “Oh shit, sorry, this form is better for shock and awe. Let me fix it for our little conversation.” It snapped its fingers and, in a bright flash of light, reformed to show.

“Morgan Freeman?” Taylor said with surprise as the actor from Earth Alphe, was sitting in the place of the cosmic being.

“I haven’t used this form in a while.” The Being said as he dusted off his new suit and looked himself over, “I don’t really have a name as such, so you can call me Morgan if it helps.”

Taylor was still in a state of shock from both the transformation and the explanation as she sat back down on the bench and slightly swung. “So what are you doing here? why me?” she finally asked as her mind was forcibly calmed.

“Simple, this particular multiverse is fucked” Morgan said matter-of-factly, checking his watch, “gone in about 5 years according to accounting.”

Taylor just sat there stunned at the way he spoke about the destruction of her own earth, as well as Alphe and who knows how many others, as if speaking about shutting down a shop instead of ending trillions of lives.

“Ok, and what does that have to do with me?” Taylor asked once again, being calmed by an external force, allowing her to continue the conversation.

“Well, in another version of this multiverse, you’d have saved the entire kit and kaboodle.” Morgan stated as he read from a tablet that he pulled from nowhere, “but that version of you was, well, not tougher, more stubborn, I suppose, would be the best description for the difference, you’re more malleable, open-minded, flexible.” He continued as the tablet vanished into thin air, and he turned towards her, “So I was sent here to give you a power that will work better for your flexibility instead of the bug control you were supposed to get.”

Morgan snapped his fingers, and Taylor was looking at a scroll that appeared in front of her face. She looked at him, but he just pointed at the scroll and gave an encouraging smile.

(Changed Fate:

You were originally meant to be the protagonist, the fated child who would solve the world with their fate-given cheat. Unfortunately, that seems to no longer be the case, and the infinite chaos of the multiverse seems to have replaced whatever cheat you were supposed to get. There is no canon to rely on, so pull yourself up by the bootstraps. At least, you get some starting tickets to ease the pain.

Starts with:

1x Platinum Random Gacha ticket

2x Gold Random Gacha ticket)

free trait

[Chaos Response]

Elite Trait

(Your existence is chaos as defined by the chaos gacha, automatically causing feedback to whatever tries to peek into your existence. Future seeing gets scrambled and incoherent, abilities that try to read into you will malfunction, and trying to read your mind will cause them a great headache at minimum.)

Curse rolled for free trait.

[Nemetic Reflection]

Severity 20

(There is a shadow staring back at you through the kaleidoscope. A chaotic reflection of who you could be. Every time you roll a ticket, the shadow rolls the same ticket and adds it to its own status. At select intervals, the shadow will summon within 1 kilometer of you with a 1-minute warning. The shadow will do its very best to murder you in a berserk fashion and will not stop until it is killed. Once killed, it will return after some time. While the shadow is not sentient or capable of communication, it is intelligent. The physical and magical stats of the Shadow always equal your own.)

Resolve: Completely crush and utterly dominate your reflection in a fair one-on-one duel or destroy them with a Divine Rarity or above Erasure or Immortality Negating effect

(feat achieved bad luck, first curse rolled natural 20, reward 2x gold tickets)

“Oof, rough curse, but it’ll be fine, go ahead and roll those tickets,” Morgan said as Taylor read her scroll, still being forced to remain calm.

“Fine,” Taylor ground out, a bit upset at everything happening to her. “How do I do that?” she asked, since she didn’t have any tickets.

“Right, yeah, just think of your inventory, you’ll have the 5 tickets, and just think of them in your hand and rip them in half to roll them,” Morgan explained to her.

Taylor ripped the platinum ticket first.

[Super Regeneration]

Epic Ability

(Gives you an unimaginable Healing Factor on par with someone like Wolverine, minus the immortality. As long as it doesn’t instantly kill you, chances are you will survive, as long as you have energy that is. You can further speed up healing by expending energy.)

With her luck turning around on that, she tore the gold tickets one by one.

[Omni Phone]

Rare Item

(A mobile phone that has everything you need, being able to connect to a network regardless of distance, more storage space than you can count in numbers, a firewall that would take a machine god an aeon to crack, and enough processing power to make a supercomputer blush.)

[Tactile Telekinesis]

Rare Ability

Allows you to telekinetically manipulate objects you maintain physical contact with, such as being able to crumple a car with a touch. The stronger a target is, the less of an effect it has on them)

[Butcher's Bag of Infinite Meat]

Common Item

A bag containing a limitless amount of fresh meat inside of itself, you can only take 100kg of meat out of it every 24 hours; it contains meat from all mundane animals from earth in all cuts, all of it clean, not ethically sourced. Just plunge your hand into the bag of meat, think of what you want, and ignore the implications of infinite meat and its source.

[Grooming]

Common Skill

(NOT THAT KIND- You are very skilled at grooming, taking care of your hair, your hygiene, your cleanliness, etc., basically, you are skilled at making yourself and others look presentable.)

Some highs and some lows, Taylor looked up and saw Morgan walking away. “Wait, what do I do now?” she asked.

Morgan turned to her and smiled, “Whatever you want,” and snapped his fingers before Taylor shot up in bed in her cabin, breathing heavily and wondering if it had all been a dream.
