Work Text:
The afternoon sun lit up their room in a dusty warm glow. Lunch of stew and savory bead cones sat heavily in Coco’s stomach. Her own head lulled down into her arm as her pen drifted across the paper. Just before her eyes closed and her hand finished the seal, she felt a rush of anxiety take over and she shot up in her seat.
I wasn’t even watching what I was drawing!
To confirm her worry, the seal she was in the middle of drawing was shaky and one of the sigils was upside down. There was no telling what the effect would’ve been if her sleepy hand managed to close the circle. Coco grimaced as she crumpled the paper to be tossed.
That would’ve been very bad, and Agott would’ve scolded me... Definitely.
As her thoughts turned to her serious roommate, Coco adjusted towards her in her seat. Agott was sitting at her workspace, back straight, prim and proper as always. Coco rested her head into her hand as she admired the other girl
We’ve been studying for hours! How is she not tired after lunch? Coco sighed, an amused smile gracing her lips. Diligent and hardworking, that’s my Agott...
“If you are bored you should just say it.”
The clipped voice shook her out of her lazy day dreaming. For the second time in just as many minutes, she felt her back go ram rod straight. Agott peered over her shoulder and is now glaring at her. Maybe it was the gentle atmosphere of the room, but that razor edged glare was nowhere near as sharp as it once was. One of her many thin curls cut the watching eye in two. She moved to brush it away.
I wonder if it’s as fluffy as it looks?
“Is there something you wanted or are you to continue to stare at me?”
“I! I-uh. Your hair!” Coco stammered “When it’s long, is it still as bouncy as it is now?”
“My hair?” Agott frowned. She rubbed a lock between her fingers and observed it for seemingly the first time in a while. “It’s been a long time since I’ve let it grow, but I suppose it does lose some of its curl the longer it is.”
“I’m glad you keep it short then! I love how fluffy it looks!”
Coco smiled at how her words affected her friend. Agott’s speculative frown turned bashful as she hid back into her work. “Fluffy would not be the descriptor I would choose. Now, if that’s all, we have more work to-”
Agott was startled mid-sentence as Coco appeared in her peripheral. She was far too close and far too focused on her hair. One hand was to her chin as if deep in thought. The other was hanging midair grasping at nothing, hesitating.
The sleepiness that chained Coco had unlocked its shackles as curiosity took over. If fluffy wasn’t what the cloud of dark hair felt like she desperately wanted to know what it did. She stopped though. Her mother had taught her that you’d need to ask permission to touch somebody, and high-class ladies are very particular when it comes to their hair. Now eye to eye with the daughter of one of the oldest witch families she flustered. Her mother never prepared her on how to ask someone that made her heart stutter like Agott did.
“Go ahead.”
Huh?
“Huh?!”
“You wanted to feel my hair, you may.” Agott sighed as if bored, but the pink to her cheeks betrayed her shifting eyes.
Coco swallowed the mess of words in her throat and nodded. Slowly, the tips of her fingers brushed through silky locks. Agott’s gaze returned to her work as Coco tucked curls behind a reddening ear. Coco heard the scrape of a pen in the distant background as she experimented. First, she gently pulled a curl straight. She watched in delight as it sprang back up. Next, she tried to gather a small handful. Curiously, the locks she squeezed together would form tighter spirals for a moment before slowly returning to their original texture. Coco was about to mention this when her fingers sank deeper and made contact with Agott’s head. She watched the working witch's shoulders relax. The little huff escaping the girls' mouth made Coco pause. She waited to be shoved off or told to leave, but the pen kept scratching away.
Gaining confidence that her roommate was content with this, Coco shifted her knees a little impossibly closer. She started combing through larger swathes of hair. She let her blunt nails rake across Agott’s scalp. Coco delighted at the way Agott seemed to lean towards her. Her head now too heavy to seemingly bear rested atop her fist, and the scribing of her pen slowed.
Look who’s sleepy after all! A long sigh that was nearly turned to a yawn was pulled from Agott as her bangs were swept back. She’s so cute when she’s trying to stay awake.
Coco hummed happily as she now focused on the last place she hadn't explored yet. An embarrassingly loud groan escaped Agott followed by a full body shiver the moment Coco made contact against the nape of her neck. She both cringed at her own bodies reaction and desperately craved more. Like everything that came with Coco, the craving always won out.
She toppled into Coco, hugging her as they landed between workstations. Both thrilled and wide eyed, Coco continued to press into the newfound weak spot. Agott buried her blush into Coco’s neck. Her grip on her waist tightened, causing a bubble of laughter to escape from the girl beneath her.
“Agott! That-t tickles!” She wheezed.
“Consider it payback for making me make that horrid noise earlier.”
“Sorry! Should I-” Coco began as she started to lift her hands. Agott grumbled into her neck and instinctively pushed her head back into her hands. “Don’t even think about it.”
Coco squeaked as her hands followed Agott’s head back down to nuzzle into her. Neither moved to separate themselves.
“How about a break then?”
She felt Agott nod and listened to the slowing of her breathing. It evened out a few minutes later as Coco distantly worried that the hammering of her own heart would wake the taller girl up. Sleep had shackled her again and this time she’s taking her own prisoner with her. Lazy hands filtered through soft locks as her eyes closed. The room, the food, and now the weight on top of her doomed her to sleep. She smiled.
Warm, it’s warm...
