Work Text:
There were two cats inhabiting the Cavalry grounds—three if you counted Nippolin. A young black Bombay and a grey British longhair could be spotted at various places.
The grey British longhair named Enon, was most likely to be found in the medical department, snatching one of the beds used for patients for himself—and always the most comfortable one. The Cavalry members have learned to leave him alone, although he is calm and relaxed most of the time, once bothered he would not hesitate to put his claws into you or worse, bite.
The other cat was named Yuder and could be anywhere on the Cavalry grounds, but if you didn’t see him while training, he was most likely with Enon or in the commander’s office getting pets and snacks.
Yuder was an absolutely no touch for anyone besides the commander and sometimes Kanna and Gakane. Apart from this, he wasn’t really bothered about anything, mostly sunning or running around.
It was by these rules that the Cavalry lived with and when outsiders visited, they would be told these exact things.
---
It was an important day for the Cavalry as the emperor and empress were making a visit. Everyone did their best to be on their best today and to make sure the Cavalry was looking and working perfectly.
“Please, Enon, get off the bed!” Lusan cried but didn’t dare to come closer to the already agitated cat. Another Cavalry member had tried to move him earlier and claimed he had “almost lost his arm.”
Using someone’s power to move the cat also wouldn’t work since he would just slip back inside and claim the bed before anyone would notice him. And then he would be even more agitated: if anyone came closer than a two-meter radius, they could end up with multiple scratch and/or bite marks.
In the other side of the Cavalry building, the commander who should be making a last round around the Cavalry, was still in his office with a cat on his lap. Only after another comment from Nathan did Kishiar set the cat down and walked with a dramatic sad face away.
It was apparently then that Yuder decided to cause some mischief now that he was no longer under supervision. The cat had not only jumped onto the commander’s desk and made a complete mess of it, but he also decided it was the perfect time to sneak into the kitchen and eat the cookies and other sweets that were specially made for the soon-to- arrive royalties.
He was only stopped when Steiber, together with the other deputy commanders Kanna and Ever, caught him.
“Oh no…”
“The poor cooks.”
“Yuder…”
All three said at the same time.
Kanna picked up the cat, who complied although he was grumbling a bit.
“I’ll leave handing over the news to you two. I’ll take Yuder to Enon, hopefully he’ll stay put long enough,” Kanna said to the other two, already walking away.
Though Steiber and Ever didn’t look forward telling the cooks who had worked so hard making the sweets that they were half ruined by a cat, at least Yuder stayed of the healthier snacks.
Lucky or not, Kanna arrived right at time the commander was inspecting the medical department. He, priest Lusan and Nathan were standing next to a bed at a safe distant, looking at the grey British Longhair that was cleaning himself, seemingly unbothered.
That was, until Kanna walked in together with Yuder, turning four pairs of eyes on them. Not even a second after, Yuder wiggled himself out of Kanna’s arms and jumped on the bed laying beside the grey cat.
If cats could sigh in mild annoyance, Enon would’ve probably done it, but instead started grooming Yuder, ignoring the other’s disgruntling sounds and forcing him to sit still.
Kanna explained at the same time what happened and although she didn’t expect the commander to get mad—it wasn’t any of the Cavalry members fault—but still she was a bit worried. Unnecessarily it seems, since the commander started laughing loudly and told her that it was alright.
“Their majesties wouldn’t mind if something cute like this was the cause. Now, lets get going, it seems they have arrived.”

“So, this is the little rascal that ate our sweets?” Faria jokingly asked Kishiar, looking down at the sleeping Bombay and the British Longhair laying protectively besides him.
The latter laughed aloud, “Yes, your majesty, Yuder can quite the troublemaker sometimes.”
“But why are they laying on the bed? Aren’t those supposed to be for the patients?” Keilusa spoke up, one of his brows raised, although without any hard feelings. Even the emperor understood that cats were quite stubborn creatures. “And why are we standing so far away?”
Before Kishiar, however, could answer his question, Lusan hastily spoke up.
“Uhm, your highness,’ Enon is already agitated today, and he becomes very dangerous when he’s like that, so we stay at this distance to make sure no one gets accidentally wounded.”
“And he somehow decided one day that this was his spot that didn’t want to give up,” Kishiar added jokingly and then on a more serious note, “But we really shouldn’t get any closer. He already caused injuries today and it would be a shame if he were charged with treason for attacking the royal family.”
Keilusa sighed, keeping his composure, while Faria quietly laughed. The nervous members in the medical room also gave a small smile at the commanders words, especially after the emperor didn’t seem to mind them.
Maybe due to the laughing or other noises, or simply because it was time, Yuder woke up. Unfortunately for the Cavalry. Fortunately for the Cavalry, however, was Enon immediately going back to work after hissing at the people disturbing his peace.
Yuder could only yawn before he was getting washed by the older cat, again. At least he would stay put for another few hours and by that time the emperor and empress would be long gone.
“Lets get going, shall we?” Kishiar said with a smile. It was probably for the better. At this point even the two meter distance could be unsafe with how annoyed the grey haired was. The cavalry would make it up with his favorite food later today, anyway. But they should most likely check Yuder out since the stuff he ate were not all cat friendly.
Well... he ate a chocolate cake by himself once and was still alive when they noticed only hours later, he should be fine.
