Chapter Text

Trinity

The early summer heat beat down on the Abbot-Robinavichi house. Trinity grinned as she pulled her truck into the driveway. She loved these Sundays full of family, work and love. They had started shortly after she had moved back to Pittsburgh. They had quickly became one of her favorite days of the week. And they had only become better in the last year. Trinity turned to look at her girlfriend.

“Hey, baby. You ready?”

Yolanda grinned at her. Yolana’s curls were spilling down her back and she was dressed in a back tank top and a pair of jean shorts that had Trinity practically drooling.

“Yep. I’m excited that it’s finally warm enough to be outside.”

Trinity laughed.

“Come on, Land. Let go!”

Trinity swung open her door and hoped out. She made her way across the front yard and up the porch calling out, “We’re here!”

“Tita Trinity!!”

Trinity hears the squeals of her niece before she sees the child. Penny comes running around the corner as  Trinity puts her bag down. She reached down and swept the girl up into her arms.

“Hey, Penny! Look at you, you've grown 3 feet since the last time I saw you!”

Penny giggled, “No I haven't!"

“You sure?”

“Yep! Tis’ only been a week.”

“Is that right? It felt much longer.”

Trinity hummed as she adjusted Penny on her hip and made her way through the house to the back porch where the rest of her family was. Jack and Robby were both in their rocking chairs while Abby and Frank shared the loveseat. Tanner was playing with their dog in the yard and the baby was in the play pen. Trinity grinned at them as she leaned down to put Penny down.

“Hey, guys.”

“Hey, kiddo.” Jack responded. “Glad you're here.”

"Wouldn't miss it for the world.”

Frank snorted - probably thinking about the time he had to cover for Trinity after she decided to spend the day fucking Yolanda instead of showing up. It was shortly after that, that he had told Yolanda to get the fuck out of her head and just ask Trinity out properly.

“Garcia.”

Trinity winced at Robby’s cold tone. He had never gotten along with Yolanda inside or outside of work. They had managed to become more civil over the past year and half but things were still tense in between them.

Yolanda, god bless her, just smiled at Robby.

“Robby, Jack, Frank, Abby, good to see you all.”

“Tia Yola” squealed Tanner.

“Hey, kiddo.” Yolanda squatted so she was at the same level as him.

Trinity grinned as they shared a big bear hug. Fuck, did she love this women.

Yolanda

Yolanda stretched, leaning her head back into the noon time sunshine. It had been a long day. She had woken up at 5am that morning to Trinity vomiting in the toilet. She had spent the next hour holding back Trinity’s hair and trying to convince her to not come today. She had - clearly - failed but Trinity had seemed surprisingly ok so far. That didn't stop her from keeping a close eye on her girlfriend.

Trinity was across the yard with Frank putting in a new fence for the vegetable garden. The sun glinted off of her bracelet as she pushed her braid to the back. Trinity was dressed in a flannel over a white tank top and paired with cut-off jean shorts. She was in short - the most beautiful thing Yolanda had ever seen.

“Hey.”

Yolanda turned to see Abby standing there with Charlie in her arms.

“Hey, Abby.”

Yoland turned back around and leaned against the railing. Her eyes drifted back towards her girlfriend. Abby stepped up next to her and followed her line of sight.

“They're pretty great, huh?”

“The best thing that ever happened to me.”

“Awww, you’ve got it bad.”

“Ugg, never let anyone at the hospital find out about this.”

Abby laughed.

“Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure they already figured that out.”

Yolanda groaned and buried her head in her arms. Abby was probably right, Shen had teased her about being down bad for Trinity after walking in on her researching traditional Filipino meals, and if Shen was teasing her …. Properly best not to think about that.

“How is she?”

Yolanda glanced up at the concern in Abby’s phone. Her eyes returned to Trinity as she sighed.

“She’s … Trinity. Stubborn, sassy, and independent. Even when she doesn’t need to be.”

“Yeah.”

“But she’s been going to therapy … so that’s good. Oh, and she was looking into tickets for a gymnastics competition the other day. Asked me to go with her.”

“That’s good. She barely talks about her gymnastics days with me. She must really trust you then.”

“I hope so.”

“But really, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Yolanda responds quickly - too quickly.

Abby turned to look more directly at her.

“Yola. You have barely let the girl out of your sight all day. And not in your ‘I’m so in love with this girl way.’ You're worried about her.”

Yolanda sighed as she pulled a hand over her face. Trinity had asked her not to tell anyone that she had vomited that morning but Abby and Trinity were incredibly close. And if she didn’t tell Abby she would probably just drag it out of Trinity later.

“She threw up this morning.”

“Shit. You think she caught something at work?”

“Maybe? But that’s pretty much her only symptom.”

“Mmmh. You notice anything else different?”

“She’s been really tired lately but work has been stressful.”

“You want me to talk to her?”

“I don’t know. What would that do?”

“Remind her that people care. See if there’s anything else that’s been bothering her.”

“Yeah, ok. Thanks.”

“Anytime.”

Abby

It’s hours later when Abby finally manages to get Trinity alone. She’s sitting on the steps to the shed watching Tanner and Penny play soccer. Yolanda, Frank were sitting with Emery, Dennis, and Parker who had all stopped by for dinner on the back porch. Jack and Robby were with Dana in the kitchen. Abby sat down on the steps next to Trinity.

“How you doing?”

“I’m good.” Trinity smiles at her. “Today has been great.”

“Yeah, this is one of my favorite parts of being married to Frank. Open invitation to crash at Jack and Robby’s place.”

“Yeah, it’s pretty great.”

The two of them sit in silence for several more minutes as Abby tries to think of a way to broach the topic. She had noticed Trinity gagging on the smell of coffee that morning, she had used the bathroom four times, (unusually for someone used to getting through twelve hour shifts without going once) plus the morning nausea and exhaustion. Well, Abby might not have a fancy medical degree but she did have three kids and common sense.

“What Abby?”

“I didn’t say anything!”

“I can feel you thinking, Abs. What’s up?”

“I just … Can I ask you a weird question?”

“Always.”

“How late is your period?”

Trinity cocked her head to the side as she squinted at her.

“About three weeks. Why?”

“You gagged on the smell of coffee this morning.”

“Ok…”

“You’ve been exhausted, you had to use the bathroom four times today, and Yolanda said you threw up this morning.”

“Ugg, I told her not to tell anybody about that.”

“I asked and she was worried about you.”

“I still asked her not to do something and she still did it. But, whatever, I probably just caught a cold or something. What does this have to do with my period?"

Abby just stared at her. Sometimes she really thought that doctors were the stupidest people on the planet.

“Trin, if a patient showed up in the ER with an aversion to certain smells, nausea, exhaustion, a three week late period, and is sexually active, what test would you want to run?”

“A pregnancy tes- Oh. Shit.”
