Chapter Text
You slowly open your eyes, tranquility broadcasted upon your face. Slowly you connect the dots, the hard cold surface of your desk bringing you to reality.
"Shit, how long was I out?" you slowly began to lift your body, cat stretching the ache our your bones.
The sun was setting, your school bag on the side of your desk. You slowly rub your eyes, fully awakening and noticing the big black words written in-front of you.
'FREAK'
You began to squint, then erupt into a silent laughter, the feeble insult not fazing you. It's always been common for you to get made fun of. You immediately jolt up while grabbing your bag, making your way for the door.
You travel to your locker, switching your shoes out absentmindedly. Notifications from your dad sending ripples of vibrations throughout your pocket.
You slowly open your phone sighing, before picking up one out of the 38 missed calls. "Hello? Hey pops-"
"Where the hell are you? Schools been out since 3pm? It's 6!! I mean you know how worried I was— matter of fact the food I've made has been sitting here cold! After what happened to your mom and your brother I can't allow you to just roam freely whenever you want!"
You yank the phone from your ear, hearing nothing but frantic questions on the other end.
"I hear you dad, I fell asleep in class. Sorry about that" you say, guilt seeping through every word.
"Please calm down, I'm safe. I promise I'll do better next time" you mutter meekly while trying to diffuse his anger
A few seconds of static silence drags, before he lets out a huge exhale.
"I'm sorry, I just needed to know you're okay. Get home fast, alright? Yknow the drill, make sure no law enforcement sees you."
You break into an eerie grin, taking your shoes and socks off , gliding a hand through your hair. "I gotcha."
You hang up, sliding the phone in your pocket. A hot sensation flows throughout your body, different hues of orange traveling throughout yourself as little flashes and sparks of fire surround you.
The fire settles at your feet causing the ground to rumble. The sensation pushing you off the pavement.
"Burst."
You shoot up into the sky, as the warm sensation escapes into the cold air. Your coils shoot back while the wind hits your face. You glide freely, using minimal effort yet going the same speed as the train above you.
In your peripheral, a green monster of sludge culminates, engulfing a blonde boy about just the same age as you, while a green haired kid pathetically attempts to combat the monster.
Bystanders and hero's sat and watched, this angered you to the max. Letting kids deal with a villain. So caught off guard, you slam straight into a light post.
Your body flies backwards as you fall down, you shake your head back and forth before flying to the scene, as you get closer to the monster you change your position into a kick.
The green haired boy halts his efforts, watching you fly into his vision. A look of nothing but fear and vulnerability masks his face. You look up, seeing the blond boy look straight into your eyes, time slows down as you see the look of distress on his face. Your grin was turned down into a scowl.
"BURST!" You shout, cultivating a raging fire from your feet.
You kick straight through the sludge, freeing the blonde. You scratch your heels against the pavement, the friction tearing your flesh to bits. You wince, grabbing the knocked out boy.
"Yo you! Are you good?" You ask the freckled boy, he stares in awe be for locking his gaze. "
Y-yes! I'm okay!" He gives you a cute thumbs up. You sigh, feeling nothing but adrenaline traveling through your veins. You thought it was over.
"That was a tough power of yours, I almost couldn't regenerate"
You slowly turn your head around, watching the monster slowly recuperate its form. Panic floods your body, you're feet where nothing but flesh. An adolla burst would decimate every cell inside of them, leaving you footless. You didn't wanna be footless, there's a limit for everyone after all.
The sludge began to spread around you, news reporters flashing cameras at the helpless group of kids instead of helping. Your ears rung, alerting you to run, but there was nowhere to run to. I'm fucking
cooked.
You thought it was over. You began to brace yourself for the impact, throwing the blond to the green haired boy telling them to run.
He looked at you, dread coating his teary pupils as he slowly backed out the way. He was out of your vision, so you assumed he made a run for it, like most civilians.
You sighed to yourself, accepting your doomed end.
"So this is how I die huh, thought I'd pass as the number one hero." You mutter to yourself. Your eyes stayed glued shut, you feel a cold pressure of wind shoot past you.
"DETROIT SMASH!!"
Your eyes widened, All might, the number one hero was right in front of you. He saved you from certain death. Cheers of pedestrians being heard in the background, you were so relieved your face contorted into a creepy smile. Reporters and paparazzi blinding the scene.
✧
"I mean seriously kid, what you did takes guts, better be glad I got there in time or you would've been smoke"
"What he said, that was nice work! You should consider enrolling for UA next year"
You blush slightly, smiling awkwardly not knowing how to take the praise. You humbly let out a "Thank you" before following it with "I appreciate it"
On the other hand the hero's did nothing but scold the fluffy haired boy. Which was strange when he had more confidence to stand up to the villain than anyone else. You sighed to yourself.
The blond himself chewed out the boy as well, turning his sharp glare to you.
"I didn't need your fucking help. 'Coulda took that thing down myself if I wanted." He said smugly.
"Oh really? The gasping and clawing at air said otherwise to me, I don't know though" you trolled sarcastically
Fire began erupting from his palms. He started shouting at you. As if you didn't basically save his life. His sharp attitude began to anger you, you never got angry. The new irritation causing you to slightly snap.
"I don't know who you're feeling like. You can either say thank you, or leave. You're being loud infront of all of these people, seriously making yourself look bad." You said bluntly.
He paused for a moment. As if he were soaking in your words "I'm not thanking you for shit, beat me in the entrance exams then we'll talk."
"Oh yeah, fix your face when you fight, that freak ass smile gives villain more than hero."
You were mad, you looked down at your feet, bloody and bruised, school bag nowhere to be found. You had your phone but it was completely dead, the thermal fire from your body probably overheating it.
"I just spent my hard earned time tryna save you, and this is my repayment?" You exclaimed, trying to contain the exhaustion of burning out your quirk and your frustration
You both go at it, he grabs you your collar , yanking you as you both shout insults at each other.
"Kaachan, I think you should stop, they look tired-" the boy says to the blonde.
"SHUT UP NERD!" He says back in retaliation, he attempts to keep going until thump hits his shoulder.
You were knocked out, your body completely limp as he held you. He whipped his head over observing you. He thought that his shaking might've killed you, until he heard soft snores.
“Oh, the extra is just sleep." He says almost softly, still a bit of edge in his voice. The boy with freckles sighs and ask to hero's to call an ambulance.
✩
You absentmindedly stare at the hospital ceiling, your dad scolding you with tears in his eyes. You were sure his words were out of a sense of love and care. The meds they gave you made you too calm to properly respond, giving your caretaker small nods of understanding. Your feet were wrapped in little casts.
Sleep taking over your senses again, you mumble jumbles of words, feeling his tears puddle on your cheek.
"I swear 'm gonna beat that kid, gotta pass the exams, for Shō and mom...I can do it, plus ultra.." you say before returning to your slumber.
Since that day, you've been set on becoming a UA student. Training your quirk to the maximum ability, training yourself to the fullest potential, you didn't want to just be fiery, you wanted to be an inferno.
