Work Text:
They had to arm themselves with sponges, rags, soap, and cleaning solution. They stared for a few minutes at the mess that had been created by the boiling cake incident. Gaara started at wiping the counters that were coated by flour from the mixer.
While Neji went to clean the microwave in which the butter had exploded. Gaara watched as his husband removed the plate and began to wipe the inside of the microwave with a wet rag, and then washing the plate that goes in the microwave. Before propping it up to dry.
Before setting upon the dirty dishes that had been used on the making of the cake. The bowls, whisks, spatula, cake pan which the cake had burned, butter cup, and mixer were thoroughly cleaned before being left to dry. While they cleaned they spoke of their day and plans for the weekend. Gaara was still cleaning the clunks of goop from the batter that had spun out the mixer as well as the flour that seemed to coat the room. When Gaara finally finished scrubbing the counter and was going to move onto cleaning the splatters of cake batter on the ground and oven he noticed splatters on the wall.
He pressed his lips together to contain his amusement and laughter before setting his sights upon the goop that seemed plastered to the wall. Eventually he was able to complete that and Neji had worked upon the floor sweeping and mopping. Avoiding Gaara’s feet and where he stood and whenever Gaara moved that place immediately had a broom and mop upon it. Gaara eventually completed the task of the walls and was able to clean the splatters off the walls of the oven and outside of the oven. Only for him to feel a shadow over him and look up to see Neji leaning up and squatting down to get the batter off the cabinets.
Amused Gaara stopped cleaning for a moment to watch his husband who’d tried to make a cake and wound up with a boiled burnt cake. A cake nonetheless for his birthday. After another minute of watching Neji looked down as though he knew he was watched only to see Gaara smiling and peering up at him. Before turning and returning to the oven. Eventually the kitchen was sparkling and with it complete they put away cleaning supplies. When Gaara felt arms wrap around him he leaned up to look at his husband only to let out an “ah.”
Neji looked down at his husband a grin on his face. “What?” Neji asked.
“There’s batter on the ceiling.” Gaara said. Looking up amused.
