Shark not worth a shark

Summary:

Deep Bite noticed something in the ocean when he was searching for fish to snack on, it looked like a shark.. kinda? It moved similar to one too, humanoid, lean, muscles from all the swimming.

Another shark? He would be overjoyed.

Work Text:

Deep Bite noticed something in the ocean when he was searching for fish to snack on, it looked like a shark.. kinda? It moved similar to one too, humanoid, lean, muscles from all the swimming.

Another shark? He would be overjoyed.

Their movement was elegant, powerful, just like his own. Their fins cut through water effortlessly, and that structure of theirs? Undeniable proof of a predator adapted to ocean life. They had two dorsal fins tho and they stretched onto their back, more like manta ray wings than anything else but they were using their tail for pushing themselves forward and those for gliding? Odd but.. who was Deep Bite to judge? That was another shark!

It was incredible! A fellow predator! Someone who could understand him- hunting, swimming at insane speeds through currents... maybe even a potential ally? Or rival? Either way, it was thrilling.

Without hesitation he shot forward like a torpedo through the water towards them-

And got bonked with an anchor for his troubles.

The other practically hissed, swimming away from him to keep distance. "Just who the hell you think you are? Charging at me like that, I'm not a meal you-"

"Ow! What was that for??" Deep Bite rubbed at his forehead, it's not like the hit was harsh, more of a warning than anything but still, quiet rude.

"You got a death wish or something?!" The stranger barked.

Deep Bite blinked before huffing. "I was just saying hi!"

"That's not how you say hi to someone you don't know!"

Deep Bite crossed his arms. "You're a shark! Sharks don't usually hit each other with anchors when saying hi too!"

"First of all." The stranger said, pointing a hand at themselves. "I'm an Aquilolamna NOT your shark species. Second of all? You were swimming towards me like you saw a fresh buffet you.."

Deep Bite blinked, then pointed at his chest. "I'm Deep Bite."

The stranger, the Aquilolamna, squinted at him for a second before sighing. "...Okay, Deep Bite. Nice to meet you or whatever, the names Black Hook, now outta my way."

Black Hook turned to swim away-

Deep Bite caught the edge of his fin in his jaw, holding on rather gently to stop him. Black Hook whipped around with a glare, teeth bared. "Hey! What the hell?!"

Deep Bite just grinned, letting go but holding onto it with his hands, careful for the claws. "I want to talk with you."

The Aquilolamna stared at him for a second before groaning. "Let go of my fin."

"Talk with me first, maybe race?"

Black Hook's glare intensified. "Race? You wanna race?" he repeated before kicking up sand from the sea floor violently and zoom-.. Deep Bite watched that tail disapper under the cloud of sand.

++++++++++×+++++++++

The next time he saw the other was when Black Hook was looking over some old trinket, the necklace was nice but.. old, dirty, the bronze oxidised when it was somewhere up above and it was greenish.

Deep Bite approached quietly, not wanting to startle him, the other seemed pretty absorbed in examining the necklace.

He hovered nearby for a second before speaking up. "That's... kinda pretty."

"Its useless junk." Black Hook replayed "not golden nor does it have any shine to it."

"You want something golden?"

Black Hook looked up at him with interest that wasn't there before.

"Follow me then!" And so Deep Bite lead him to where he kept those hidden trinkets of his, looking behind himself every now and then to make sure the other followed and- "Ta da."

Black Hook stared, unimpressed at the things stuck between the corals. "Those are just hook's and lures." Then with a defeated sight he turned. "Don't follow me."

Of course Deep Bite followed.
