Or Rumi gets asked on a date (dates?) and she's kinda panicking about it.

Notes:

You know, I didn't realize how many times I used the word oh until doing one more read over (oops). 😅 However, I've been burning a hole into this doc for sometime now so I'm posting it before it never sees the light of day. Not beta-read, so don't mind any mistakes or uses of oh. 🤣

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

There was a slight breeze as Rumi sat on the bench slowly strumming her guitar, letting it fill the silence as she waited for the bus to come by. She just got off of work at the cafe on this very street and she’s just passing the time until she can go home.

As the sun continues to lower in the sky, Rumi hums as she strummes more loose notes from her guitar. Though it's more without much thought behind the notes as her mind is elsewhere. She’s thinking about that cute girl that comes in every morning for a coffee and pastry. She has adorable little space buns and freckles that stretch for miles on her face. Rumi also feels a silly smile come to her face whenever she gets to talk to her and before Rumi could keep thinking about the conversation that they had that very morning.

A deeper, slightly raspy voice startled her, drawing her out of her thoughts.

“It’s pretty, the notes you were playing.” The voice says, and when Rumi turns her head in the direction of said voice, it was a tall, pink haired woman that was staring at her with dark brown eyes.

And before Rumi could open her mouth to say that it was just some simple notes.

The woman continues and says “Pretty just like the girl playing it.” she says with a beautiful little smile.

This causes Rumi to blush and turn a bit red in the face and for a moment she just stares at the pink-haired woman on the bench next to her and quickly stammers out.

“You’re very- very pretty too.” Rumi says shyly as she fiddles with the guitar in her lap.

“Prettier than the notes I was playing.” Rumi added on after a moment, but once it hit her what she just said. She got even more red and turned her head to stare at the ground instead, now embarrassed.

For a moment there was just silence and Rumi was worried that she might have said something to make the woman uncomfortable and she lifted her head to apologize when the words died on her tongue as she saw that the taller woman’s head was actually turned away and she was blushing a bit herself.

There was a small chuckle and then a clearing of the woman’s throat before she turned back to look at Rumi.

“I’ve seen you play a few times before as I was getting ready to head out of work.” She tells Rumi.

This makes Rumi turn even more red if that was even possible, and then she blurts out “OH- oh where do you work?” and then she tacks on “Oh I’m so sorry, I didn’t even ask what your name was.”

Rumi closes her eyes for a moment, embarrassed once more.

Though what gets her to open her eyes again was a small laugh and then the woman telling her.

“Mira.”

Then Mira goes on to tell Rumi, “I work as a tailor just across the street from the cafe here, so I sometimes see you get off of work and sit here playing on your guitar from the shop.”

There was a pause for a moment and then Mira added “I got off earlier than I normally do, I tend to work late more days than I should, but I figured I could catch the bus to get home at a more decent hour.”

Rumi sits with that, now thinking about all of the times she’s stared at the taller woman across the street through the window on the slower parts of her day at the cafe. She’s embarrassed to say that she never thought about what the shop actually was and instead about just how beautiful this woman was. She always wanted to get to know her but never felt brave enough to walk over and strike up a conversation.

But Mira noticed her? So it wasn’t just her.

After the small conversation the two had, they just sit in a peaceful silence, that Rumi feels she’s making a little awkward. When the bus can be seen rumbling down the street about to turn the corner where the two sit. Mira turns to Rumi then and just looks at her for a moment. Rumi feels like she could get lost in the stare of those intense brown eyes.

After what seems like Mira got what she wanted from looking at Rumi’s face.

She asks “Could I take you out on a date?”

Rumi just blinks for a moment, lost.

“Huh?” and for what felt like the millionth time that night, she felt her face heat up.

Though Mira doesn’t feel perturbed by this and just quietly and quite gently repeats “Could I take you out on a date? This Friday? If you’re not busy.”

Oh.

“OH yes- YES.” Rumi says but realizes that she kind of shouted that, but all Mira does is give her a charming smile.

Then right before Rumi could make it less awkward with the silence that popped up after her answer, the bus slows to a stop right in front of them and Mira gets up. Though she doesn’t get on the bus right away.

Instead she just turns and looks at Rumi, holding her hand out. Rumi takes her hand and then together they get on the bus and then sit quietly together as the bus starts once again. They don’t say anything for the first several minutes of the bus ride.

Though after some time had passed, Mira perks up a bit in her seat and Rumi realized that her home must be coming up ahead and when the bus begins to slow to a stop once again. Mira gets up and she doesn’t leave right away. Instead she turns and grabs Rumi’s hand and gives it a gentle kiss and murmurs to her.

“I’ll see you on Friday for our date, just dress comfortably and meet me at the bench we sat at, at 6pm. Have a good rest of your night Rumi.”

And then she leaves, leaving Rumi in a daze.

It was then that Rumi had two thoughts. One, that she knew her name even when Rumi didn’t say it. Though Rumi would remember later when she got ready for bed that she still had her name tag on from work still.

And two that she has a date with this gorgeous tall woman in 2 days.

She has a date with Mira in 2 days.

It was now the next day and Rumi was clocking into her shift at the cafe. She’s behind the counter facing the coffee maker and trying to tie the back of her apron when she hears a cheerful voice sound from behind her.

“Hi Rumi!”

She turns and when she looks up, it's Zoey. Her favorite customer, she always comes in early in the mornings right before her classes start.

During one of her and Rumi’s many conversations as the order was getting prepared, Rumi learned that she was about 2 years younger than Rumi’s 23 and that she was studying to be a marine biologist. However a lot of her classes tended to be early in the morning.

Rumi once asked her why didn’t just buy the ready made coffees in the store, to be able to sleep in a little longer if it was hard getting up this early.

“Your coffee is so much better than store packaged ones though! It’s made my morning classes much easier to get through.” Zoey told her once which left Rumi a blushing red mess.

It was just coffee. Anyone could make a decent cup of coffee. It truly wasn't that hard.

“Good morning Zoey.” Rumi says as she leans on the counter. “What would you like today?”

Zoey bounces up to the front counter with a big smile while leaning closer to Rumi and orders “a large iced vanilla latte and one cookie croissant please.”

“Ok coming right up” and then Rumi turns to begin putting it together.

As she's finishing up with Zoey's order, she’s just a little confused that Zoey isn't rambling about how she’s been this morning. It's out of character for her regardless of the early hour, so it’s worrying her just a bit. Then just as she finishes the order and is putting Zoey’s drink and pastry on the counter, she’s about to open her mouth to ask if everything is all right when zoey cuts her off with “WOULD- would you like to go on a date with me?” she rushes to say.

Oh.

OH!

Rumi straightens up and her brain freezes for a moment. She realizes though that Zoey is looking at her for an answer.

Oh.

“Yes, I would like that.” Rumi blurts out without much thought.

The only thing that is running rampant in her mind is that the pretty bright girl that's been coming into the cafe for a few months now, wants to take Rumi on a date.

Say less.

“Wonderful, would Friday work for you or are you busy? If you're busy we can always choose a different day.” Zoey says with a nervous giggle.

Rumi thinks about it for 5 seconds.

Just 5.

“Yes, Friday works” Rumi says, sealing her fate.

“Great, just wear something comfy and we can meet up by that bench just outside at 6pm if that's alright with you?”

That bench. It makes something tickle in the back of Rumi’s mind but she’s not sure what yet.

“Yes that works, I’ll see you then Zoey. Have a good day of classes.” Rumi says with a smile and Zoey just beams back at her and then pays for her stuff, waving at Rumi as she walks out of the cafe.

As Rumi stares out at where Zoey last was with a silly smile, It then hits her.

Oh.

OH NO!

She has a date. Yes, absolutely and with someone wonderful.

Two wonderful someones.

Two people at the same time.

On the same day.

And she just said yes to both.

And they don't know.

Oh shit.

And those dates are tomorrow.

What’s she going to do?!

I hope you enjoyed this.
