Chapter Text
The days following that entire predicament were several levels of chaos.
Jessie and James were several levels of what you could only call “helicopter parents” towards Meowth, who was exhausted and probably sick and too mentally drained from life in general to care.
Journee had thrown out letting him stay with her for at least a week just to calm him down and get him somewhat back to normal, but that would mean taking the humans with brightly colored hair who had never set foot in her world and would probably die of shock the second they met literally anything creepypasta-related.
She'd be completely fine with it, she just didn't want to explain to grown adults while there were killer pigeons.
She will forever admit that Meowth’s reaction was hilarious.
She'd asked Dexia to keep tabs on them while she was at school, because she herself could not do it.
Now she was staring at a text from them, screaming, “We have a situation.”
“James, I am so going to kill you.”
The fever was bad. Jessie certainly expected it to be bad.
But a fever so high that so much as hovering over Meowth felt like a goddamn volcano?
…yeah, no. She had every right and cause to be very concerned.
James was dead asleep in the bedroom, while Meowth was half-delirious in the next room over.
The audacity.
Wobbuffett was even panicking, which was just great. She herself was trying not to panic, and her companion doing it made it worse.
“Calm down, i-it’s gonna be fine. He’s gonna be fine!”
Meowth flinched under her voice. She recognized that with a speed she did not like.
His ears were hypersensitive. And if that was bad, it meant that everything else was probably ten times worse.
“Nova, hey, it’s okay, you're okay, nobody’s gonna hurt you.”
She says as if that’s going to get rid of a fever.
He’s in pain.
“Wobbufett, I am begging you. Please wake James up, I cannot do this by myself.”
Jessie is too busy making a mental checklist.
- Make sure we have enough medicine
- Keep the base at a decent enough temperature to maybe lower the fever
- Possibly go see Journee?????
She couldn’t fucking handle this herself.
Of all the days for James to sleep in-
“Wobbu!”
Her companion waddles in, James dragging himself along behind him. “Jesss….”
Tired eyes blink open at the sight of her. “Holy shit, what happened to you?!”
She must look as bad as she feels. She barely looks like a person, and double that with being worried and overstimulated…
Yeah. They were not leaving the base anytime soon.
Slowly, she sidesteps, leaving the couch, and their friend, in complete view, and James’ eyes go completely wide.
“Holy shit, nova!”
“So now your awake!”
“Oh, fuck you.”
Meowth flinches, whines, and both go dead silent.
James’ eyes soften immediately. “Hey, it’s okay, we’re okay, nobody’s fighting, it’s all gonna be-”
James flinches back before he can even touch Meowth. “...oh my arceus…”
“Yeah. Bad.”
It makes her heart twist. Makes her remember that they weren’t there for him at all when this started.
Maybe if they were there they could have prevented this.
Maybe they would have noticed it sooner.
Maybe things would be different.
Maybe things would be okay.
