Chapter Text
His thoughts were buzzing and the vibes were off. Admittedly that was probably because he had downed three bottles of red wine in about an hour. Just out of pure boredom. The furthest corner of his mind hoped it would work, a cure for a feeling that gripped him with its talons- refusing to let go and dragging him further into his self despair.
Except now, his synapses were wired and the boredom remained- ever present. He tried watching TV, flicking through that never-ending watch later list. But he wanted to actually focus on that new show and his usual comfort murder mystery was particularly dull today, familiar thrills nowhere in sight. So the next best thing he could think of was slipping his bathrobe on and lying sideways on his bed.
Bed rotting did not work. Shivers zapped through him at irregular intervals, filling him with restless energy, foot twitching more violently than usual.
There had to be something he could do…
Well, there was SOMETHING he could do. A few weeks ago, Sonic had managed to acquire Shadow’s number from Rouge (after a lot of pestering and promising to let her read their messages). He hadn’t yet taken advantage of this new information, and texting his dark rival could stave off some restlessness. That was… if he didn’t instantly block him.
Well, it didn’t hurt to try– Wait. No, it could hurt. Knowing Shadow he’d probably teleport beside him and beat him up for bothering him.
Oh well.
Sonic: hey
Sonic: hey
Sonic: hey
Shadow: Who is this?
Huh, he didn’t just block him. How often did this happen to Shadow that he actually bothered answering?
Sonic: damn. u actually answerd
Shadow: If you don’t tell me who you are then I will block you.
Sonic: wait! no no no no no no
Sonic: i will tell. dont block pls
Sonic: sanic
Sonic: sanic*
Sonic: sanic*
Sonic: fav rival <3333
Sonic squinted at the screen. Did he spell his name right? He couldn’t tell, eyes blurry. He lowered the brightness of his screen, the words becoming more legible. Wow, Sonic thought, Shadow actually responded- rather fast but maybe time was wonky for Sonic.
Shadow: Are you drunk?
Sonic thought he was doing a good job at playing sober. Was it that easy to tell?
Sonic: yur oddly clam about this.
Shadow: Not the first time Rouge has given my number to someone.
Shadow: Now answer my question.
Damn, always so bossy.
Sonic: i yam!!!
No spelling mistakes were registered by Sonic, especially when he got an idea. He could ask the GUN agent all the burning questions he has had since becoming rivals with him. The chances of Shadow answering were slim but Sonic was nothing if not persistent.
Sonic: highlights?
Shadow: What?
Sonic: who dos yur highlights???
Shadow: They are natural.
Sonic: finnne keep yur secerts mgic man
Shadow: Go to sleep, faker. It’s late.
Uh, no it wasn’t, Sonic laughed to himself. Just to humour Shadow (even though he literally can’t see him right now), he glanced at the time on the top left of his phone display. It wasn’t that late! It was … 3am.
Okay maybe Shadow was right… BUT Sonic’s brain wouldn’t be able to rest unless he was knocked out. Maybe if he annoyed Shadow enough he would knock him out…
Oh, Shadow. Just thinking about him in Sonic's drunken state had him feeling warm all over. Sonic reveled their scuffles. Each touch, punch, yank- his skin tingled in thought. More than once Sonic had brushed up against him when they fought Eggman together, pretending not to realise. But, he hadn’t dared to do much more. Shadow hadn’t really accepted his very subtle affections, but he hadn’t outright rejected them, so that was what he stuck to. Touches.
Sonic: Yur highlights look nice ;p
Shadow: I’m going to bed. Stop texting me.
Sonic: All by yurself handsme??? :0
Sonic: u pretty
Sonic: u should come ovr pretty boi.
Sonic frowned when he didn’t receive another reply. Shadow did say he was going to bed, BUT his messages were being read. He just wasn’t responding.
Sonic knew what would make the brooding hedgehog respond. A selfie! Surely he’d… Sonic didn’t know, maybe insult his appearance or tell him to shut up. Either way, it’s attention and Sonic craved attention in any form possible.
He raised the phone. Oh, he definitely was a mess. His bathrobe open, quills messy, arranged like a halo around his head. He pressed his knees together and snapped the photo. Not the most flattering angle he’d taken but his bedside lamp at least provided enough light to see in the quiet darkness.
Sonic: [photo]
The ellipsis in the corner appeared and disappeared several times and Sonic just waited. Guess it worked! Yay! Attention! Speaking of attention, Shadow got Sonic's with a response.
Shadow: On my way.
Welp, Sonic was getting knocked out. Maybe he should prepare some painkillers for Future Sonic. For the hangover and… getting punched. Nah, that was Future Sonic’s problem.
The knock on his front door confused him. Surely if Shadow wanted to clock him, he’d just teleport inside. He had done it once before when there was some Eggman emergency Sonic was napping on. Regardless, it would be rude to keep him waiting.
By the time Sonic had meandered to the door, he started questioning whether anyone had actually knocked on the door. It took him quite a while to drag himself all the way there, so he’d been expecting another knock especially if it was from Shadow, who had limited patience with him.
But, surprisingly to Sonic, Shadow was standing on the other side. His body was tense (when wasn’t it? That boy was always so high strung that someone ought to loosen him up. Sonic wasn’t opposed to volunteering.) and his eyes shone with something Sonic couldn’t quite decipher. Regardless of the message behind them, Shadow’s eyes burned like a raging fire- a fire that seemed more deliberate than Shadow’s usual gruff demeanour.
They stood there, staring at each other. Shadow shifted, his arms slowly unwinding themselves from his midriff and Sonic adjusted his weight to rest more heavily on the door. Sonic opened the door wider in invitation to the other hedgehog. An
invitation Shadow took.
Sonic didn’t get any warning. He got pushed, face-first, against the door after he had shut it, one of Shadow’s hands tangled into Sonic’s quills keeping his head in place, the other kept his hands still, pressing his body against the blue hedgehog’s own. Shadow’s breath was warm on his ear, his eyes intense.
“You don’t just get to send that without consequences, Sonic.” The rumble of his voice traveled down Sonic’s back, leaving shivers in its wake. And dear Chaos, the way he had said his name had Sonic’s knees going weak. It was deep, it was dark and it was dangerous.
Sonic’s brain shut down and he acted, listening to the heat that was blossoming rapidly between his legs, he arched his back in Shadow’s hold, his ass rubbing against Shadow’s front. The bathrobe was in Sonic’s way, giving very little friction to the now desperate hedgehog and Sonic became acutely aware of another reason why he doesn’t like to wear clothes. A reason he would be keeping to himself.
Much to Sonic’s displeasure, which was voiced with a loud whine, Shadow took a step back, still keeping his hands on Sonic. “Oh, isn’t this cute? So desperate, so needy~” The grip on his head floated down, running shivers down Sonic’s spine and giving his thigh a little squeeze before retreating to its owner. “But, not yet. I want you sober.”
Sonic was now wriggling in Shadow’s grip, a feeble attempt at escape. “I am sober!” He winced. His slurred speech certainly wasn’t convincing but he wanted– no, NEEDED Shadow now. He angled his hips further back, feeling the brush of Shadow’s fur. It disappeared. Sonic paid no heed to the frustrated whines that left his mouth shamelessly.
“Keep this up and you won’t be getting ANY…”
That gave Sonic pause. At least in his physical gesticulations. His desperate whimpers didn’t pause, he hoped that if he seemed pathetic enough then Shadow would take pity on him. Shadow liked being superior to his blue rival after all.
It didn’t work.
“Now.” Sonic quietened at Shadow’s commanding tone. “You will sleep and I will deal with you when you wake up.”
Growls died in Sonic’s throat. He was about to complain about how he wasn’t tired. How he wasn’t a child that needed a nap. But when Shadow tossed him onto his shoulder and carried him to his own bedroom without a single struggle, Sonic readily submitted. It didn’t help that he was pressed up against the dark hedgehog's body. More specifically, his crotch, which rubbed against Sonic with every step the agent took and it felt amazing.
Much to Sonic’s chagrin, it didn’t last. He was dropped onto his soft unmade bed, bouncing twice. Shadow sat on the other side, pulling up the blanket over both of their legs.
Fine, if Shadow wasn’t going to help Sonic with his little ‘problem’ then Sonic will just have to jerk himself off. That would show him!
However, before either of his hands had the chance to slip under the covers, they were pressed to either side of his face. Shadow loomed above him, his weight pressing Sonic into the mattress, lips pulled up in a devious smirk.
“Ah, ah, ah.” He scolded, enjoying Sonic’s discomfort. “This is your punishment for lying earlier. Now sleep.”
Pulling at his hands didn’t merit any success. A fruitless endeavour. So, albeit very discontentedly, Sonic closed his eyes. His struggle against Shadow earlier was more draining then Sonic first assumed because it wasn’t long before Sonic felt his consciousness slipping. He succumbed to the darkness with the sensation of fingers running soothingly through his quills.
