Safe in your arms

Summary:

Time wakes up in the night while Wind is on watch, naturally, the Sailor kicks into big brother mode ft. Captain "Life coach" Warriors.

I'd recommend reading "Hard times sleeping, and big brother instincts" first! It's refrenced at the end of this fic, but doesn't play a huge part in the plot. (Edit: It's part 1 of The Nightmare Saga)

Notes:

Hi. It's been a minute huh. Sorry about that! I was taking part in the Sparkbird art showcase and burnt out hard for writing. I think I'm getting through that though cuz I managed to write this!! :D

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Wind startled as he heard something move within their camp. He tightened his grip on his sword and spun around to see Time staring up at the sky, hands trembling.

He exhaled gently, calming himself down, he loosened his grip on his sword and wandered over to Time's side. Wind set his sword down as he kneeled by Time's bedroll.

"Time?" He spoke low and gentle, careful to be clear while also being quiet enough to not disturb any of the rest of the Chain.

Time flinched away at the sound of Wind's voice, his red, tear-stained face turning to look at Wind's calm, kind expression.

"Hey." Wind smiled gently, "You're ok. You're safe here."

Time lurched towards Wind, wrapping his arms around the Sailor, to which he let out a surprised "Oh!" before returning the gesture.

Wind carefully wrapped one arm around Time's waist, while the other hand buried itself in Time's hair, gently combing through it.

"You're ok. I've got you. The Chain are here, our brothers are safe." Wind whispered over the quiet sobs being muffled by his tunic.

Wind glanced over his shoulder at the sound of someone getting out of their bedroll to see Warriors sitting up behind him. Wind leaned his head back, careful to not let go of Time, and whispered to Wars.

"Hey, Captain! Can you keep watch for a bit for me?" Warriors blinked, looking slightly confused before his eyes widened as he spotted Time curled up against Wind's chest, crying.

"Uh, yeah sure. Time ok?" Warriors looked concerned as he pulled on his tunic and quietly unsheathed his sword.

"Think it was a nightmare, I haven't got anything out of him yet, I'm just trying to help him calm down." Warriors nodded before settling down by the fire Wind had abandoned previously.

Wind and Warriors sat in silence for a while as Time's sobs slowly came to an end, replaced with quiet snores.

"Ah. So much for asking what was wrong." Wind sighed, getting a small chuckle out of Warriors.

"Time fell asleep?" Warriors asked.

"Time fell asleep." Wind nodded.

"I think he still sees you as an older brother." Warriors thought aloud, a smile on his face as he reminisced.

"So I was in the War of Eras." Wind grinned back as he moved to carefully pry himself from Time's grip.

"I- uh- no?" Warriors tried, to which Wind bit his lip to hold back a laugh.

"Yeah. Nice try." Wind huffed as he gently lay Time down and joined Wars at the fire.

"You can go back to bed now if you want."

"Nah, I might as well stick with you for the rest of your watch." Wars leaned lightly on Wind's side before continuing. "What is that, the second time you've comforted one of us older ones after a nightmare now?"

"Oh, yeah, I guess it is! What can I say, once a big brother, always a big brother." Wind grinned, moving the arm Warriors wasn't leaning on to put a hand on his hip triumphantly.

"Heh, I can tell." Warriors straightened up to ruffle Wind's hair.

"Hey!" Wind whisper-shouted, shuffling away from the Captain. Once the Captain's laughter died down, he spoke again.

"You're a good brother Wind, remember that."

Notes:

Oh big brother Wind my beloved XD

I do love a good "Wind's smarter than his age, but he's still a little shit." fic
