," Chibi, have you ever wanted to get married?" Osamu Dazai strived on being unpredictable. This unpredictability was mostly directed to rats like Mori. But sometimes, Dazai liked to direct it to his favourite chihuahua. Who, even though having long since been used to the unpredictability, was still caught off guard.
," Yeah sure- wait what?" Chuuya looked down at his partner, confusion evident in his tone. Dazai was odd, Chuuya had long since accepted that package deal. But this was certainly the oddest. Contrary to popular belief, there is a method to Dazai's unpredictability. A weird, most likely batshit method, but one none the less. One that Chuuya knew as if it was engraved into him. So imagine his surprise when Dazai asked that question," What made you ask that?" Chuuya asked, carefully choosing his tone. His partner was like a cat, one wrong move and he'd be spooked. Dazai laid his head against Chuuya's chest, suddenly feeling.. embarrassed? Weird," Huh, didn't know I could feel that." Chuuya did have a habit of making him feel new emotions and thoughts though. ," Chibi puts strange thoughts in my head. Apparently, getting marr- thinking of marriage is one of them." But it was too late to correct himself. Chuuya had heard.
And he hoped he hadn't heard wrong.
," Please for the love of the Gods, tell me I didn't mishear him." Gently interlocking their fingers, Chuuya asked a question that, if answered yes, would change their lives significantly.
," Marry me."
Osamu Dazai, in all his 17 years of living, had never been more caught off guard than it in that moment," Eh!? Has the chibi's brain finally matched his height?" That had to be it. Chuuya would never want to marry him... right? But even the master of strategical thinking could still be caught off guard," Osamu, I'm serious. I'm... I'm asking if you'd want to get married." Well... Chuuya had lost his mind then, because why would someone want to marry him? Why would someone chain themselves to an inhuman thing like Dazai Osamu?
," Yes Osamu, I want to "chain myself to you". Stupid mackerel." Ugh, why must Chuuya read him so? Dazai sighed in defeat," Well then, I can't wait to see Chuuya in a wedding kimono. We'll probably need at least 10 kimono dressers to make sure none of the material gets dirty." Dazai teased, feeling joy at the annoyed look on his partner's face," Hey, if anyones wearing the wedding Kimono its you!" His Chuuya was so funny when he was "serious", he couldn't help laughing. Said partner's face softened at the laugh. A laugh that the infamous Dazai Osamu of the port mafia reserved for only one person.
That person being his future husband.
," My last name as well, if you want to." The laughing stopped. Not because of any discomfort, but contemplation. Dazai had always thought Chuuya's last name sounded nice, definitely better than his own... but Dazai also knew the memories associated with the name Nakahara," Are you sure? Doesn't it remind you of... that place?" Dazai didn't dare say the proper name. That place didn't deserve its name anyway,"... It does and it always will. But it also reminds me that, if I had never been taken, I probably wouldn't have met you." That was a life that Chuuya didn't want to live.
Dazai smiled, both sad and grateful. He was grateful that his Chuuya loved him so deeply but he also shouldn't have had to go through what he did just to meet him. His partner didn't deserve that," Hmm, I suppose Osamu Nakahara has a nice ring to it." Dazai would be lying if he said saying the name out loud didn't make him feel a bit giddy," Heh, Osamu Nakahara. Nakahara really does sound better than Dazai."
," Never thought I'd be getting married at 18." Dazai immediately gave his chibi an offended look," Eh, why do we have to wait??" They were in the freaking port mafia, no one would give a shit if they got married before 18. Chuuya spoke as if reading his partner's mind," Kouyou." Ok one person would give a shit," Stupid Kouyou, why must chibiko want your approval?" Dazai knew why and he didn't really mind waiting. At least he finally had a reason to look forward to his birthday.
," I'm glad you're my soulmate Chuuya."
...Even if they never got their wedding.
