Chapter Text
Roy if he ever had to justify himself, and it would be to Dick if anyone, would argue that it wasn't his fault it happened. It wasn't like he set out to seduce the second Robin. He, a good friend, had shown up when Donna needed him after Dick, a bad friend, cruelly abandoned her to help with a mission.
All he'd done was be nice to the kid. Talked to him on the plane ride to calm him down. Asked him about himself. Offered to show a few trick shots. Little stuff.
Roy was a lot of things but he wasn't a dick to children.
(That would be Dick given his initial reaction to the new baby Robin.)
He kinda forgot about the kid truthfully. He had a lot bigger things to focus. Mainly the giant thing in a deceptively small package named Lian.
Forgot about him right up until Roy was woken up to someone knocking on his front door at ass o'clock in the morning after a night with Lian refusing to sleep to find him outside his door bright eyed and bushy tailed.
His first thought at seeing the unmasked Robin, bleary eyed and confused was that Dick had been de-aged and was needing a place to hide out from Slade "Deathstroke" Wilson from sniffing him out (again) for pocket size Robin fun time. Which invited all sorts of teasing and potentially reliving their first time. For a third time. It was an intriguing enough thought that Roy had paused to look again and it saved the kid from getting a door slammed in his face.
It was only on second glance that he realized that it wasn't his black haired blue eyed teenager of Teen Titans past but an entirely new one.
The kid's hair was curly-curly not that careful coif of waves that Dick had worked to keep with Donna's help. The blue wasn't quite right more turquoise with a bit of green than the Robin's egg blue. And the body was off, scrawny and small but not the svelte slender power that Roy knew.
He didn't know the kid who was smiling up at him all sunshine and butterflies in a way much too sincere to be Dick's performance.
Roy would have turned the unknown kid away then and there on the principle of waking him up way too fucking early without even the promise of an ill advised fuck if not for the muffins.
Mouth watering muffins like some kind of sitcom neighbor welcoming him to the nice middle class neighborhood if Dinah's unused Gotham apartment counted as a "nice neighborhood". He had a little wicker basket and pretty little cloth over it which paired with the floppy head of curls and soft baby blue sweater over his collared shirt and neat unripped jeans and apple cheeks just made him look like a Hallmark card. One that smelled like freshly baked sweetness and sugary goodness. The greatest loss of Dick's break up with Bats was it had lost them access to the mysterious A's baking and occasional treats sent starving teenagers way. And Roy may not be a teenager but he still had the appetite of one.
That thought allowed him to pair up the scrawny unmasked kid in front of him for another scrawny kid in shorts and a mask.
"Robin?" he asked just to make sure. It was a normal name so it wouldn't give up too much.
"Jason," the kid corrected voice squeaking and then he swallowed continuing so fast the words seemed to explode out of him and ended barely coherent. "Uh, Dick said you were staying here and Alf-A made some muffins? They're cherry and orange!"
"Huh," Was all Roy could really think to say as the kid cut himself off breathless and all big Bambi eyes with breakfast to boot. Another inhale of the smell decided it. "Come in?"
Little Jason-not-Robin seemed determined to keep up the Bambi imagery stumbling after him like he wasn't used to his legs and looking over Dinah's apartment with a weird fascination as he trailed behind him to the kitchen/dining room combo. It was a decent place, plenty for Roy and his tiny passenger, but nothing for a kid that lived in a fucking manor. Roy had a split second of embarrassment towards the overflowing trash, empty takeout containers littering the island, and full sink of dishes, mostly bottles since he'd started buying paper plates and utensils. Then he swallowed it back.
The kid had come to his home unannounced, Roy didn't need to feel bad about shit.
Jason, wisely, didn't say anything navigating to a free space on the table and focused on his little Red Riding Hood basket folding back the cloth to take out a little porcelain plate decorate by pretty blossoms along the edge that did not look right arranged besides the boxes of Batburger bags, though this could be over looked with the way it was quickly loaded up with muffins. It was quickly followed with a thermos with a screw top lid that he opened and poured out allowing the equally mouthwatering smell of some nutty expensive coffee to fill the room.
Roy's hesitancy was gone by the time Jason was offering them both up to him like a tribute and he only distantly noted how the boy jerked away like he was burned when their fingers brushed. He was too busy enjoying the first breakfast in ages that wasn't from the under $10 menu or a premixed protein shake. It burst in his tongue all sweet orange chased with the slight sour sweet bite of cherry and then flushed with the kind of coffee that had to be special ordered and was almost worth.
Fuck. Almost better than sex. Roy felt no shame about the moan that drew out of him or the fact he polished off three in quick succession before opening his eyes-he'd closed them?-to check on the kid he'd forgotten.
Jason was all bright pink and mouth all pretty and a little open. Huh, he had some lips on him didn't he? They were so full and glossy, a little tongue poking just visible in the seam. He shut them quick when he spotted Roy looking, eyes dropping and somehow going pinker.
"You gonna eat baby Robin?" Roy asked, feeling generous with the coffee chasing away a lot of the lingering sleep deprivation headache and the muffins settling pleasantly in his stomach.
"Jason," Jason corrected again and then after a quick look that Roy couldn't quite parse the emotions behind, shifted back to shyness. "Uh, no. I already ate and they're for you. Welcome to Gotham? And all. That. And, ah, congrats? On the baby?"
Okay, Roy officially could not see where Dick was getting his descriptions of the kid from. On the mission he'd been all nervous enthusiasm and some understandable panic. Now he was like a shy little baby bird all pink cheeked and dressed like a magazine perfect priss. Where was the bite? The sass? The cussing?
Dick clearly brought out the worst in people.
Feeling more than a little amused, Roy smiled getting another squeak for his trouble. "A few weeks late for that. But I'll never turn down A's muffins and Lian does deserve celebrating."
That appeared to cause a smile and then a distant whine snapped Roy to attention, new parent instincts struggling to the forefront.
"Speaking of, the Princess calls. Thanks for the muffins baby bird."
"Jason."
"Hm, split the difference, Jaybird."
Roy made it to the nursery before it became a full cry and trusted Jason could see himself out.
He didn't think he'd see him again though.
