Infatuation

Summary:

Work Text:

Spock is one of those guys that Jim looks at and looks at but can never truly figure out. It’s kind of fun, to be honest. Infuriating, sure, but fun. And by fun, Jim means challenging, because most things are ridiculously easy. Jim likes solving unsolvable things.

Jim’s currently learning Spock’s eyebrows. Everyday is a new course, and he comes out of it with more vocabulary entries all of the time. It’s fascinating to assemble the meanings

Because really. Whoever tried to say that Vulcans don’t have emotions was spouting some serious bullshit. Jim knew that, and even if he didn’t he would have learned when Spock almost choked him out on the bridge.

It’s in the microexpressions. The very slight deviations in cadence of words and tone. The biggest indicator, though, is the eyebrows. Hence why Jim has made them his focal point of study.

“You need to stop staring at the hobgoblin,” Bones mutters one day over lunch.

Jim waves him away, munching on his salad. “Can’t, Bonesy, it’s important. I’m doing a study.”

Bones grunts and says, “Your infatuation is showing, genius.”

Jim rolls his eyes. The accusation is ridiculous. He puts it out of his mind.
