Main context: A zombie apocalypse broke out like a pandemic. It started off as a non-lethal worldwide virus, but slowly evolved to the point where it mutated a persons genes and DNA. It remained non lethal to the person with it. The virus is very very strong and VERY contagious. It can fully mutate the holders genetics within two months.
The first symptom (develops within a week or two): The mutation strengthens skin cells, making a persons skin more durable and thicker. It also regenerates faster (Signs of this are excessive calluses, skin growing so fast that there may be uneven lumps and dry patches.) The virus can be reversed at this point, but only with an extremely rare herb that only grows in hot climates.
The second symptom (develops 3-5 days after the first symptom): Severe brain fog; body may not feel like yours anymore. Some develop psychosis. You may go through stages where you black out, and when you wake up, you’re in a completely different place. Usually, the person is not violent when in a state of dissociation. Just not present. The virus is taking over. The virus is NOT reversible after this point.
Third symptom (develops with a couple days after the second symptom): teeth sprouts from skin. If the virus was transferred from a bite, the teeth usually start growing there first. When the virus first started mutating (and they still had medical equipment) x-rays found teeth on organs. Mostly on the intenstines, stomach and brain.
Fourth symptom (develops a week or two after the third): the users face and skull splits open from the top of the head to the top lip. The sickness has fully taken over. The host is still alive, but they have no control over their body. They can think for themselves, but that is just about it.
The virus is very contagious. It can be transferred by biting (most effective— the virus goes straight into the blood stream.) if a zombie touches a wound in any way, the virus has been transferred. It is VERY important to keep wounds covered. A zombies breath has spores in it, so if you breath them in, it goes straight to your lungs. This way is not very effective, simply because a healthy person would breathe the spores out quickly.
The virus will continue to mutate. Zombies will get stronger, faster, and more durable until it’s too late.
People often turn against each other for supplies and food. “Gangs” are started. Usually groups of friends that existed before the apocalypse. The gangs often use violence to get what they want.
The virus started off as a small flu. around 2 years, it, started to mutate. By year 6, an apocalypse had started.
Izuku and Bakugo were 10 when the virus started. They were 16 when the apocalypse started. They are now both 20.
When the story takes place, Bakugo and izuku do not know each other. Both of their parents are dead. Inko died when Izuku was 17, and Mitsuki died when bakugo was 18.
Izuku has a dog! Most animals are immune to it. (Aside from fish. If a fish is in a small body of water that is not flowing, water is easily contaminated. If eaten, they do not infect the person/thing eating it— the person/thing eating it will die within days.) the dogs name is Maggie! She is a Golden retriever. Izuku found Maggie well into the apocalypse (when he was 17, right after his moms death.)
You’ll find out how Inkos mom died sometime in the story, but Mitsuki killed herself when she found out she was infected. Bakugo refused to leave her when she showed symptoms, however she did not want to hurt him.
