By the Light of the Moon

Summary:

Alphas who got stuck as wolves were hunted down by their fellow werewolves to protect the rest of them from repercussions. That much was true. Their ability to wolf out at will threatened the balance of power within the packs, definitely not baseless.

But neither of these were real reason Alphas were shunned by packs. The real and far less known reason was that just as they were capable of shifting without a full moon, their wolves could take control while Alphas were human.

Unfortunately, Enid never got the chance to learn about this tidbit about herself before it landed her in a very tight spot.

Chapter 1: Prelude to a new beginning

Chapter Text

Enid hummed as she helped her best friend and roomie (best roomie?) unpack her side of the room, less because she was happy more to bring up her mood. All in all they had been very lucky.

They had been able to avoid all the death premonitions from the last term. Then Wednesday had been able to put her newly restored psychic ability along with Thing, Agnes and her Uncle Fester to work and tracked down Enid in under a month. She still had to go another full moon stuck as a wolf but at least she had been safe from being hunted while they worked on turning her back into a human. Lastly, Nevermore actually managed to open for spring semester. In a shocking turn of events the school board appointed the ghost of Principle Weems as the new principal. It still boggled her mind.

She didn’t have to worry about unpacking her side as she hadn’t been around to pack it at the end of the previous term. One of the first things Wednesday did when they returned was dusting Enid’s belongings as Enid took her bedding down to wash. It was a display of domesticity she didn’t see coming from the Raven (even if she had worn heavy duty black gloves to avoid an allergic reaction).

She was a little nervous about her reception by the school pack but she was even more nervous about Wednesday’s reaction to the pack if they reacted badly to her. Her bestie was known for threatening to castrate people, nailgun hearts and for literally dropping piranhas to occupied swimming pools. She would really like to avoid something like having the lupin cages contaminated with silver or god forbid having wolfsbane added to the water supply.

Well, she supposed there was no controlling other people’s reactions only her own. So she put her game face on went out to face the music.

Wednesday Addams stood out on her rooms’ balcony as still as a statue watching the “Quad”. She could understand liking quads but even a blind idiot could tell the space below was a pentagon. Even though the misnaming by the insipid students was one of her pet peeves, it wasn’t what was causing her acute displeasure.

No, that dubious honour went to the mutts surrounding her rainbow coloured companion. Enid had fretted over about how her alpha status would be received by the dogs they went to school with. But she had nothing to worry about. Wednesday had prepared to deal with any and all threats. Preparations that went to waste as the dogs chose to fawn over Enid instead.

The irritating part was now that she and Bruno were broken up for good all the single mutts were parading around like peacocks to try to entice Enid to choose them as her mate. And Enid was letting them. She allowed them to try to chat her up, to bring her treats and gifts, to linger. So much for taking a break from romance. So much for being an alpha, who were known for pursuing and courting their chosen mates to be chosen back. Instead Enid basked in the attention, letting lesser wolves compete for her hand.
