"What happened after that?"
"We got lots a treats! And Seonsaeng-nim even let me hold the bunny!" Hyunjin smiles down at their little girl, happy to listen to her chatter all day.
"I'm glad your birthday party went so well, Eunhui! Do you have anything else you want to tell your Eomeonim?" She frowns softly, a gentle crease between her eyebrows as she thinks.
"No!" She smiles up at him brightly and he can't help but pull her into a big hug.
"Ok, go help Uncle Minho get our picnic out of the car." Hyunjin watches her nod enthusiastically before she rushes towards the parking lot where Minho and Jisung are waiting within view. His smile falters a little as he watches her go, heart hurting at the thought that they're spending yet another year here for her birthday. At least she hasn't gotten old enough to want to spend it with more than just family. "She's just like you, you know? I know I say it every time I visit but I see it more everyday."
Hyujin turns to face the glass case in front of him. "She's got your cheeky personality and your heart of gold. She's even starting to grow into your freckles." He hums to himself gently to clear his throat, getting misty eyed now that it's his turn. "God baby, I can't believe she's already six. Time sure seems to fly, huh? Feels like just yesterday we where painting her nursery and feeling her kick."
He glances back at the glass, this time daring to gaze through it to the contents within; A sky blue urn, a smiling freckled face with one eye barely cracked open, and two photos of the two of them; one a snapshot from their wedding, the two of them looking at each other like nothing else in the world exists. The other Hyunjin sitting behind Felix, cradling an expanding midsection as his mate kisses his cheek.
"Our Eunhui gets her test results back this week. We'll know who won the bet soon. Gods, you were so adamant she was gonna be a headstrong, little Alpha with how much she kicked you. But everyday all I can see is how similar she is to you. And it terrifies me to think she may be an Omega like you were. Because if she is I'll have to deal with little jerks like me sneaking her out of the house at two o'clock in the morning." He smiles at the memory from high school - back in the early days of their relationship. "I wish you could see how sweet she's becoming. How amazing she will be. Just like her Eomma. Just like you, Lixieah." He rests his head against the glass gently. "Six years. Six years of watching her grow, of loving her, of teaching her about the world. Six years of not knowing what the hell I'm doing. You would have been so much better at this than me." He wipes a tear that's managed to leak past his eyes.
He tries not to cry when he visit's with his daughter, but it's hard. Especially on her birthday. Because it's the day the love of his life passed on. He'd left them alone after thirty-six hours of an exhausting labor; loosing too much blood and nearly their daughter. He'd held on long enough for them to get her out and to smile weakly at the sight of Hyunjin holding her close. He'd barely managed to gently cradle her cheek before his hand dropped and he'd closed his eyes forever.
"Appa!" Hyunjin turns to find Eunhui looking up at him with her big, brown, doe-eyes. "Uncle Chan's here! My cake!" Hyunjin scoops her into his arms with a plastered on smile.
"He brought it? The cake with the little chicks all over it?" They start to walk off toward the picnic area outside, chattering about their upcoming meal. Felix's smiling pictures watching as they go.
